No problem! Just make sure you have the purple bottles of the polaris brand slingshot oil if that’s the type you’re using. I found out after I did this video the oil I used was for the 1st gen Chevy ecotech motor not this ProStar engine in the gen 2’s. So the ProStar oil should be in a purple bottle not black. Just fyi in case.
Polaris gets a little over $250.00 for an oil change. Roughly $18.00 for the filter and just shy of $100.00 for the oil, so their profit margin is the difference between retail and wholesale for oil and filter, minus the labor plus the $132.00 labor charge. Three Polaris Dealer oil changes would pay for the ramps. I refuse to buy Polaris motor oil. There is nothing special about it except the price which is double what you pay at O’Rieleys for Mobil One 5W-50, or from Amazon. I do like the polaris oil filters, but the last one I bought actually has a Wix cross reference number for a Toyota filter. So, while you are saving money by doing your own oil change, (which I highly recommend anyone to do), you can save a lot more by simply buying your full synthetic oil elsewhere. If this were a motorcycle engine with a wet clutch, it would be different, but as it is, the Prostar engine isn’t unique. It will run just fine on automotive oil. Last checked Sept 17, 2022 on Amazon, six quarts of Mobil One was $57.68 shipped. A polaris oil filter was $15.49 or if you want a K&N it was less than $9.00. I am posting this so your readers can realize not only is it easy to change the oil, but there is an economic advantage over what the dealer charges just for themoil and filter. Personally I use jack stands and a floor jack not ramps.
I agree but someone with a new unit might not want to take any chances with the warranty. I would expect them like many companies will nit pick anything they can to void a warranty if a claim is made. So just be careful to consider your warranty and never go by your dealers word unless you have it in writing.
@@T8kyol I doubt if a dealer will void your warranty for using Mobil 1 instead of their overpriced oil. Just bear in mind, Polaris doesn’t make their oil, they design the container and the label, that is just about it. They specify a viscosity and type of oil that satisfies their requirement for the engine. If they say 5w-50 synthetic, that is what you use. They only “recommend” their oil. If they try to prove Mobil One ruined an engine, guess what happens when you inform the oil company. They do not take kindly to a major vehicle manufacturer blaming an engine failure on their premier oil. Just so you know, a Polaris Dealer in Lewiston Idaho, endorsed the fact that I was using Mobil One.

Sorry thought this was the gsxr 1000 video. 500 miles is correct for the slingshot. I cant find any good links for proper oil kit for this. Just go to dealer and make sure they give you the purple oil bottles not the black ones. Make sure they know you have the Pro Star engine not the ecotech. My dealer tried to give me the original oil for the ecotech engine and they are different oils.
They work for cars too. Noone is going to care about your vehicle like you will. Take 5 employees are just burning up the clock they dont care about you are your car. Lol
