So templars were doing their absolute best to root out sin from their lives, doing harsh penances, and here I am, struggling to quit porn and masturbation, the biggest spiritual battle of my life.
Let it be an example of what will can do, if they could do this great things, you can accomplish this. Trust in the lord brother. Kindly, a fellow sinner.
Great podcast! Adding one implication to being absent overnight without permission: This was a military organization. In addition to every other thing stated, this was equivelant to being AWOL (UA) in modern military regulations
In Bodrum (Halicarnassus), Turkey is the Fortress St. Peter and Paul of the Knights of St. John. Of particular interest in context to your video is a dungeon. There they locked away members of the Order who committed minor offenses. As a rule of thumb a prisoner would not survive the conditions more than 3 months. The heat in there is already unbearable. The Templars were equally strict with offenders. Thank you very much for your hard work on this subject 11:29 . 👍🏻💯
In order to understand and appreciate the life of a Knights Tenplar, you need to have a more than basic understanding of Catholicism. It was a wholly Catholic world back then, even the most common, lukewarm person had as much faith and dedication to tradition than the most traditional Catholics today. Monastic life was how large portions of the population lived, and yes one community of monks were also warriors, the Knights Templar. What were the Knights Tenplar spiritual obligations? Daily mass, rosary, liturgy of the hours?
Probably not by the orders themselves, because the ecclesiastical courts were not allowed to issue death sentences. Theoretically, they could give up a grave offender to the secular arm of the king of Jerusalem, who could then condemn him to death.
They gave a solemn vow, a vow was to be fulfilled. The bishop could substitute the vow for an equivalent or stronger obligation - hence why it was allowed to join stricter monasteries.
It must have been tough to keep proud young men in check, in an enclosed order there is less chance for temptation and more recourse for support. From what I understand they were Benedictine but so different from other Benedictines!
once again great vid.. but I did notice, the order did not have a death penalty for brothers... makes sense, (could not kill a fellow Christian) cool.. again thanks.
Yes very strict with very harsh penalties, that would make you cry, things like, CHOPPING ONIONS AAAHHHH!!! But thats not all you would cry over....how about carrying massive amounts of onions from the chopping blockto the pot !! MMUUUAAHAHAAHAAA!! The horror... The horror... Thehorror...

The intro brought me back to church for some reason.

To your example around the 26 minute mark of the Templar who threw his mace at a bird, it was forbidden for Templar Knights to hunt for sport.
"This brother just couldn't resist trying to take down this bird!"
Sorry. I cracked up more than I should've xD
You mentioned fallen Templars being sentenced to life imprisonment. Are there any examples of fallen Templars being executed?
Probably not by the orders themselves, because the ecclesiastical courts were not allowed to issue death sentences. Theoretically, they could give up a grave offender to the secular arm of the king of Jerusalem, who could then condemn him to death.
Another episode: nice again very nice and pleasant to listen to.
What if someone just wanted to quit The Templars?
They gave a solemn vow, a vow was to be fulfilled. The bishop could substitute the vow for an equivalent or stronger obligation - hence why it was allowed to join stricter monasteries.
Great vid! DEUS VULT!
Thanks!
I don't know if I'm hearing quiet voices in the background of the video or if they're in my head.
bring back the Templars
They are still around
We are around.....
there are more of us than you can imagine
@@kvitravn6354 oh ya, are you a Catholic in good standing? Do you adore the Eucharist and abore sin? Are you living a monastic life?
@@ocean88eagle9 what you mean with that you are an official member of the real templars , wasnt they wiped out in late medieval times?
I'd like to see videos of the Teutonic Order.

do a lot of people forget that normal the 3rd son of any noble family would go into the church as monks but would be train in the arts of war
Their way of conducting themselves sounds so like modern professional soilders
twoonthewall in allot of ways they were the half step between feudal forces and modern professional forces of a period.
"Loss of habit" can anyone tell me what that phrase means?
It's explained in the podcast.
Gisli Ingvarsson habit as in a monk's habit , his robes. Loss of habit means you can't wear the uniform you have to wear plain clothes.
twoonthewall loss of swagger more like
