I find the best way to make fries in the Breville is to cut the potatoes into fries, then boil them for 6 minutes. Then airfry. Crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Made some tonight, in fact!

I have a Tefal Airfryer. If I have soft foods to fry, I take the spatula out, so there is no rotation. When it’s crunchy, you can either shake it or put the spatula back in.

I had both a paddle air fryer and the "standard" one and gave them bot away. For the volume that I eat only the Breville makes enough food in one batch. Plus the fact that living in the desert, I never use my oven as it heats up the whole house. The Breville not only preheats much more quickly, but it generates very little heat which is especial;y important today when it's going to be 120. You can make your fries just as crunch in the Breviile I assure you but because it's so much larger you need to increase the cooking time. You also have to move them around. If I knew how to attach a photo I could show you how crunchy they become. So much so, that we had a guest actually lose a crown on a Breville Air Fry. :)

My only airfryer experience is with a Brevell air. I love that when I need to feed my crowd quickly I can slice raw potatoes into relatively thin rounds (not as thin as chips), put them in the air fryer and they come out so yummy that my family members, that are skeptical of whatever I make lately, love them!!

I agree with Lucinda, either turning the tray or moving the fries in the Breville will help with the crunch. I have a Cuisinart air fryer and a good shake and spin helps me get even crunch and browning. Great idea about the mashed potato logs/fries. Will absolutely try that next time.

We have the Cuisinart and you do need to flip them. If you do that , it works great. We love it because of the ability to lay flat. I put “holey” parchment paper in my breville first before laying the potatoes on so there is no sticking. And though I have a separate air fryer it doesn’t make enough for my husband and I. So Breville it is. I turn the trays around halfway during cooking. Sometimes I play around with the temp but it’s typically 400 for 20min. We do eat them fresh out of the oven so they are crispy.

The Breville can be found for MUCH less. It may retail for $399 but BBB has it on sale all the time and you CAN use the 20% coupon. I bought ours for $254 all in. As for making fries, ours always come out crunchy delicious. 400-425F on super convection for 20-25 mins

Instant makes an air fryer as well that has a rotisserie basket in it (the same company that makes the Instant Pot). I find the rotisserie does a great job of constantly moving things around since it's rotating so everything cooks very evenly. Only downside is if you want to put spices on the fries, they will just fall to the bottom catch tray so I just cook them plain now but because they come out so nice I don't need to add spices. I really only use it for making fries though but it can do other things kind of like the Breville and has a fairly large footprint on the counter.

The Breville oven's proof feature for dough works well, and the warm feature is nice when you are making a huge amount of pancakes and want to keep a plate of pancakes warm until everything is finished. Also fits a 9x13" pan in their easily. It does not heat up the kitchen as much as a large oven. Great for holidays when you need extra oven space for baking or roasting. Sadly the airfrying feature was not good enough to get rid of a huge airfryer gadget. The dehydrating feature is ok, still like a regular dehydrator better.

They have an enormous kitchen with high cupboards. The Breville SOA Pro is huge and takes up way too much space on my countertop. I went with the regular SOA (not the Pro), which is smaller and does almost everything that the larger one does. I needed this 2 weeks ago. I bought an instant pot duo crisp. It had the lowest heat out put of a few that someone tested on line. The breville was too expensive in Canada money, and Everything that oven does, I can, so far, do with the duo crisp, (with a fairly large learning curve for me, as I had to fiddle about with time and temp and settings). A few days ago I did pizzas and they turned out better than any I have done in the big oven (my apartment has an oven so large, my 5"6' 13 yr old fits inside, yes We did that, cuz I have been for some time trying to figure out why it is his big, and, you know corona boredom...
Plus, I have now a pressure cooker that I can make lasagne and everything, so far. The heat up time can be annoying, but it is saving energy not having to use the stupid child cooking sized oven. I think I am nexr going to get one of those magnetic stove top plug ins, unplug my stove.oven and use it as a bread box, which it seems to excel at being. Any recommendations on small cook tops?
