      Joker, as soon as I saw Duke in this video giving Rocky the pep-talk, I thought to myself; I hope that Tony Burton is still with us. But if he's up there listening I would say to him.. "Thanks Tony, see you in Heaven." So, reading your post was trippy.

    The thing about the movies, is that they kinda parallel Stallone's real life, whenever I think "it's cool, but it's scripted, it's just a movie" I realize that it's not just a movie. A lot of Rocky's achievements can be compared to Stallone's real life achievements. He's the man, he's the hero, admiring Rocky is admiring Stallone himself.

  • @Sizifus

    I guess one of the reasons why Rocky movies were so successful, besides just being great films on their own, is the fact, that these films resonate greatly with the audience. The easiest way to show pain and struggle is through physical means, because everyone, everyone can relate to that.
    Mental suffering or the pain that stems through intelligence is much more subtle and is hard to understand if you're not well versed on the subject that is the reason or such pain.
    That's what I love about Rocky films - they show humanity through a raw, pure emotion, and you don't have to be the brightest bulb in the room to get it. Great way to convey the value of will and determination to be a man you always wanted to be.

    Just because Stallone wasn't a real boxer I wouldn't take him lightly in a real fight. You have to remember this guys conditioning in his prime was ridiculous especially for that time and I guarantee he learned some type of boxing from these movies lol . Just because someone doesn't have the title professional it does not mean they don't compare there are guys that would make current pros in all sports look bad they just never make to that level because to them it may be a hobby. By the way R.I.P Tony Burton that was an amazing role you played and much props and respect to your boxing career.

      Well duh he created the Rocky franchise. The films were somewhat a reflection of his own life so he put all his heart in them. Like Bruce Lee. He's not a professional fighter, but he's a fighter.
      Besides the final fight in Rocky Balboa was real. I mean it may have been scripted, but they threw real punches.

    • @obiwanfx
      @obiwanfx 5 років тому +2

      Fun fact: the actor who played Drago was. Stallone challenged him to a real sparring once which left him heavily concussed. so how impressive his physique might have been,he was no fighter :) This also answers the questions if blocking punches with your face might work in a real match :p

    I remember hearing about the filming of this scene when he was on his running route. They were hoping to complete filming before the weather turned (shooting outside is always a tremendous risk, because you can never guarantee the lighting and other conditions will be consistent in different takes). It started snowing, and they thought about stopping right then and there, but the director kept it going, saying snow would make for the perfect ending. I can't explain why, but the snow really made this scene very special. It just adds to the grittiness of Rocky's blue collar roots.

    They were definitely not Rocky fans like Mom and I.

    I never knew who Tony Burton was, only the character that was Apollo's and Rocky's trainer... but he became a hero and legend when he said, "...So what we'll be callin' on is good old fashioned blunt force trauma. Horsepower. Heavy duty, cast iron, piledrivin' punches that will have to hurt so much they rattle his ancestors! Every time you hit 'em with a shot, it's gonna feel like he tried kissin' the express train! (CRACK! CRACK!) YEAH!! Let's start buildin' some HURTIN' BOMBS!" ;}

    Why do I cry every time I watch any of the rocky movies.. I love every single one of them.. I use to hate the first rocky found it boring and dragging when I was younger, but now I love them all.. Including Rocky V.. I don't know why people hate that movie I think because it's often compared to the previous ones but rocky V is so emotional and has more story in it I think it bind's well with the previous rocky movies.. I still have not seen rocky VI/Rocky Balboa nor have I seen creed.. I need to watch these two movies..

    Funny how Rocky never incorporated swimming into his workout routine again after part 3. Low impact on the joints, yet very cardio intensive and good resistance training. And given that he learned it from Apollo, and Duke trained Apollo, and Duke is literally telling Rocky about the problems with his joints, it would have been perfect for an aging fighter going back into battle. I'm 44 and have been swimming for several years now, currently doing 120 laps a day in a 25 meter pool, six days a week. And I love it. Wish I'd been doing it when I used to box when I was in high school. Way better than running in my opinion. A lot more fun too. Oh well.
