Do Ukraine's, the EU's and the US's ideas of how this war end align? If Russia would settle with 1/5 of Ukraine then would that help or hinder things diplomatically?

Why do we want to consider Russia at all. It's more than likely that Russia will not stop for any agreement made. Consider the previous aggressions in Chechnya, Georgia, and ongoing Ukraine push since 2014. The previous Budapest and Mink agreements were not adhered to by Russia. Essentially I think Russia needs to be demilitarised in the west and we need to start encouraging the other "independent" states in the Russian Federation to ceceed. Break it up.

They virtually gave up their sovereignty - well, control of their borders, their $, their trade, and all the benefits that went with that. Okay, they went into it with rose coloured glasses that European unity was going to benefit them. But it didn't. They weren't foresighted enough to have had a pre-nup. And even though UK was the highest financial contributor, they accepted at 35 Billion dollar debt to leave the relationship. That's 900 million dollars a month. That's a mistake even a rookie divorce lawyer would not have made.
