The only VE mod I disabled was Vanilla Genetics Expanded, since it makes every other event roaming monstrosities and I wasn't going to be using it in this playthrough anyway.

This video has a little continuity error in it, let me know if you spot it lol, I noticed it when I was editing but I was commited at that point and wasn't about to go shuffling my script around so we'll just call it a feature not a bug.

isometric zombie game? that is CLEARLY the well known game C:DDA, and not any other permadeath zombie game with unforgiving elements and a limb damage system.
no but seriously, its not everyone's cup of tea, but C:DDA has quite a few hours racked up for me, though not as much as Rimworld, Give it a try!
C:DDA is one I'll get to eventually but not yet... Yeah it's the other one lol
I know I'll enjoy Cataclysm, just don't have the spare hours, i should probably stream it sometime.
@@HazzorPlaysGames my first runs with cdda are something i will not forget... that redhaired afro maid... that singlehanded killed a stego just to drag the corpse to the nearest house and butcher it up... and survive until the home next door flooded with cockroaches and i died on a kamikaze molotov explosion... what a history on like 3 to 4 days
Is it getting the 3 pawns but then having loads more when dealing with nails? The inconsistency?
@@Blue-rs6no yeah the 5 Pawn reward and the Nails incident are out of order, not sure how I managed that when writing the script but oh well.
CE is amazing, you can give anyone a gun regardless of shooting skill and they'll shoot relatively straight, despite giving you that maximum anxiety level when you fight without armor
It's nice to not have to see bullets leave your pawn's guns at 45° angles. That's such a video game pet peeve of mine.
I love CE ❤. I'm a strict no ammo guy tho. I hate needing to control each pawns ammo and how devastating it is just to give a gun to a novice shooter. It also makes it so raiders don't spawn in with a gun and no ammo for it.
There were a few times it annoyed me especially since winston waves doesn't give any ammo with a weapon reward.
It took the wind out of my sails a few times when I'd have a high tech weapon drop but not be able to manufacture the ammo.
But yeah CE is absolutely great, I love the fragmentation especially
Ammo is the main readon i use ce, having a pawn run out of ammo and have to reload or be out entirely while 20 angry tribals are rushing him with pointy sticks creates an interesting scenario

12:40 There is just one golden rule to CombatExtended, use shotguns until you can get guns that penetrate everything.
And what gun can penetrate Everything? I am pretty new in CE and I am not sure if i can use AKs fnafalls or transfer to charge rifles. From my testing the charge rifles have more potential but the ammo is more expensive.
Of course mounted guns and M60 are always at repertoar for suppress. But I am not sure what to give to my troops like AK is nice but not sure about performance at Mid > late game.
@@michalsima850 Which ever gun you can find that can use SABOT ammunition is a good start, then rush for hand-held cannon type weapons, like anti-materiel rifles that use .50cal ammo or more, either USA 12.7x99 or Russian 12.7x109.
I can't recall what are all the weapons that CE comes with by default from how many other mods I have that CE patches into itself but whatever can breach Centipede mech armor can penetrate everything else usually.
Oh and EMP penetrates everything just at very low Burn-type damage, so shotguns are still the jack-of-all-trades.
@@michalsima850 My personal favourite is the charge anti-materiel rifles, they're strong enough, even without their AP ammo to just straight up blow mechanoid's heads off in one shot.
@@majormajorasicmy go to against centipede is always LAW and nothing else. Because I never hoped to be able to trade hits against them, it has to be one or two hit kill. Especially that cursed inferno cannon.
@@HazhMcMoor Shotgun beauty of buckshot, a single soldier mag-dumping a centipede will likely shoot out it's mechanical eyes and ears forcing the centipede to try attacking you in melee, letting you kite and easily tear it apart shot by shot.
When he said at the start “i want to learn the inns and outs of CE” with THIS storyteller, i actually thought this man’s sanity is going to be slaughtered after a week of ce chaos
1 year late but I feel like WW is a great storyteller for learning CE, all he has as mechanics is sending raids, so really all you do is learn combat, you dont have to go a full quadrum with nothing happening because Randy has decided you deserve a 7th cargo pod drop with agave leaves.
@@connorbranscombe6819 You get pretty consistent raids with Cassandra. Honestly, Randy is a pretty boring storyteller.
CE is all about the increased lethality of combat. Weapons are very important, but don't forget about armor. The most important wearables in CE are backpack, loadbearing vest, armored/composite vest, steel/composite helmet
Yeah I was pretty seriously neglecting armour in these playthroughs in hindsight.
But that's the point of hindsight...
I've enjoyed CE immensely in my other games since recording this though, well worth running on most playthroughs.
A lovely solution to the problem you're having regarding winston waves' experience not allowing you to "set up" enough to tinker with your explosives weapon idea - you gotta remember that you're allowed to change storytellers for a campaign! So, you could start with phoebe chillax then run winston waves so that you can develop some things you need. Configuratinf each storyteller's settings manually would also help you get the experience you're looking for.
Hope this helps you get more refined stories and more fun out of rimworld!
I did realize after doing this that it'd be a fun way to end every series, switching to winston with next to zero break between waves until the colony falls apart...

One thing that I love with the Combat Extended is the mounted guns. They tear through everything and can kill a few raiders with each volley

And also always set the loadout of your medical capable pawn to carry some meds.You need to stabilize the pawn before rescuing them to buy more time

Always happy to see another youtuber using Combat Extended. Did you know the creator is making his own game now called Ascent of Ashes? It's basically CE as its own game. It's got a kickstarter right now that's almost fully funded.

Vanilla expanded pirates makes the combat a lot more fun especially with the warcasket heavy flamers. Even the most incompetent reward pawn can be strapped into the Lowest level warcasket and given a heavy flamer and help shred human waves. would highly recommend doing so. Also emplacement turrets for your bad shots are great for early game suppression until you can get war caskets. Rpg 7 and emp shotties for mechs or a warcasket with the warcasket minigun if you have a lot of steel. Also binoculars+Artillery are amazing. Getting you sniper to spot for you is a good idea vs mech clusters/enemy sieges
Edit: also dubs bad hygiëne so you can turn poo into Chem fuel and burn people with poo
I did make heavy use of warcaskets in my last rimworld series but that was without CE. There's definitely a billion combat options I didn't really get the chance to check out in this video so I'm looking forward to playing with it more.
they also become heavily traumatized if you take them out of the warcasket- perfect for when half your colony got downed or killed by said warcasket and you're super duper pissed about it!

I think im going to try this one out later. Im still having fun with my mercenary corporation run though. I think i can set out an ammo trap in the front of the killbox and have someone be a flamethrower specialist, cook the ammo off and let it frag through raiders as they enter. Just use whatever ammo previous victims drop and put a stockpile zone in the flamethrowers path.
And having a smelter near the killbox would be really great too, youre not going to use that many guns anyway, might as well recycle them
try the cannons from VFE-pirates and load them with grape shots in CE. It can kill the most heavily armored unit with ease😉

Combat Extended certainly seems like a constant shadow of incompatibility concerns regarding a lot of mods, and I know some of the VE mods say they don't play that nice with it. With that said, I use a handful of mods that feature either similar effects (like suppression and adrenaline) or other combat mods to aid with a similar feel. Something you may wanna consider as a side effect of CE though is a mod I found in one of those alternative collections, Death Rattle. It makes it so you got a brief amount of time where a colonist suffers a serious debilitating loss of an important part (within reason, you can transplant a brain but not the entire head). Not only does it help with organ harvesting but it should assist with say, having increased lethality due to other effects.

CE is great it makes Rimworld so brutal and unforgiving. Even a tribal archer can be a viable threat.
For me it's tribal stick bombs. I'm ashamed how many of my best fighters get taken out by it.

Last time i tried winston waves is me just trying to survive from only 1 faction , the faction is my own mod's faction which is revia empire(in github btw) and i got demolish in wave 3 cause winston decide to sent a rusher with a powerful blade and siegebreaker armor
I wish this could be a option on console lol really enjoying this game and this seems like a fun challenge.
Ah yeah that's such a shame as i can confirm it's pretty fun.
But still it's amazing that rimworld made it to consoles at all and looks like it plays well too with a controller.
Yeah I runs surprisingly well very feed bugs and glitches just minor stuff for the most part I am very grateful I had the opportunity to play this wonderful game🙂.

yeah CE will be in future videos on other, more normal Storytellers so I'll get to experience some of the more advanced stuff for sure.

But unfortunately i got humanoid alien races in my game its a modifier now that my ass have higher chanced to be grasped in melee because i have REVIA RACE ON
and if you know about them their melee weapons are so op that the only way to survive is a pistol

did you know you coulda have went into the mod options and gave yourself a little bit more time between waves like 2 days instead of one, giving you a slightly better learning experience as you stated that winston waves is a bad learning experience because it didn't give you enough time.

I always play with CE and I guarantee that one of the most difficult combinations of mods is the combat extended with winston waves, 5 colonists almost without weapons, comes a mechanoid termite and when I see it, a giant explosion killed all my colonists, like did this explosion happen? I don't know
I'm pretty new to adding mods (always leary of breaking my game, or making it too easy)... Which mod is adding the rewards after a raid? I love that idea (always hate raids, would love a reward for them) is it coming from combat extended or something else?

Having a mod which gives you 1 random/chosen research per wave could help?
There is actually a random research reward but with so many mods it's often useless, I picked three researches once and got something like Togas, Spacer props and watermill generators...
Finish current research or a fixed research amount boost could be good though.

Does anyone know the mod at 1:50 that makes the Bills into pictures instead of text?
That's Vanilla UI Expanded, it lets you open every dialoge in the game like that, when it's installed any drop down you open will have a "Show full dialogue" option that opens it as a window like that.

well it's sort of intended to stop trees and stuff growing but to be honest it's probably mostly just for aesthetics, of course it's actually a terrible idea because it gives raiders a speed boost...

its painful mode but with other mods it can be quite easy but u never going do reach wave 100 cuz there will be too enemys or u have shitty pc and end up lagging slowing game 2x slower then real life and too many items making it crasg cuz its just impossible do get wave 100

Combat extended is best mod :D. Consider adding the extra weapons that work with ut as well :P
