aye 2nd this! Dan's workmanship and mechanical reasoning/knowledge is always good to watch and I enjoy seeing things built without compromise or shortcut. keep it up
Always learn a ton from Dan, cheers mate! "Everyone always adds all these accessories, no one ever upgrades the earth." I've honestly never heard anyone say it that way.
Great advise guys, ALL CARS/VEHICLES require maintenance regardless of make and model... "If you look after your vehicle, it will look after you"... 👍👍😎
Always hated the steel emu wing & wanted to make a custom glass one myself, so that it would look factory. Finally they are making them. Yes I have wondered for years about the black edging on the glass
When I bought my 05 Courier, I'd planned on just doing the necessaries on the suspension and steering. I ended up replacing most of the components; tie-rod ends, brakes, rotors, upper control arms, ball joints, suspension bushes front and back, shockies etc. Same with the 4-litre engine. Replaced the water pump, thermostat & sensor housing, alternator, and all the seals from the exhaust and inlets up, oh, and replaced the clutch fan with an electric one. It's also got a full 12/240-volt power system with solar, AGM batteries, inverter etc.
I can totally relate to gummed up EFI system. I had a motorbike that sat for nearly 20 yrs. And silly me tried to start it without draining all the fuel, and treating the fuel system with the correct fluids before hand. Result, a fully rebuilt EFI with new injectors needed. 🤬
Dan, much appreciate your POV mate. You think stuff through and don't let the marketing drivel drive your choices. Onya!!! Using (not just starting) the vehicle every week to re-coat bits that aren't sitting in oil is mandatory IMHO.
I'm old school, from the days when sometimes engines chewed more oil than petrol, especially the 300 clunkers. So, I've developed the habit to check my oil and water each day before I drive my vehicle anywhere. And as an old truck driver in a past life, I tend to walk around my ute before I drive it just to give it a visual inspection. Yeah, it's a bit overkill but hey, you'll catch slow tyre leaks or anything abnormal if you do a walkaround at least once a day.
I just replaced the fusible link in my 80 series that connects to battery. Because it was deterating over time. The other suggestion I have is keeping fresh winter diesel and not running summer diesel to provent waxing up.
Hey Dan, I have a 1975 Leyland mini, and my old man got a 1923 Ford, we usually put a few mills of fuel stabilizer in the tank when we know they're not going to be run for a while. It keeps the fuel fresh and never goes off. 100% of the time it works and will start the first time even after sitting for 4+ months. Maybe give some a try in the Holden, let me know your thoughts. Cheers
Love the channel! I just bought a JDM Nissan Safari here in the US. It's good to find other English speakers working on them. There's not much parts or info to be found around here. I also have the TB42 with automatic, so Dan's info is especially helpful since most other Patrols seem to be diesel.
16:15 suzuki vitaras run the front breather into the engine bay to around the top of the tyre height, and the rear goes up into the body in the back, again above tyre height. always though that was awesome of suzuki to do that. never ended up changing it.
Another good informative video thanks guys. I love your car collection Dan. You made me feel guilty about not taking as much care of my old baby as I should, she can sit for 2, 3 or even 4 months without being used and not getting started. I'd better change that.
15:30 My Courier is a hilift RWD model, but I put a breather extension on my diff that is up as high as the fuel filler cap (just below the rear window of the crew cab). If it ever sucks water, I have more problems than just water in my diff :)
@@stuarttaylor1445 sorry l didn't reply straight away 😳.Got busy. But the answer is No never had that issue it's been their for the last 30 year's in my 80series which I have since New. Love you guys with informative content ✔️✔️✔️. I'm in Victoria.
One of the many good things about old Land rovers is that you know it's been looked after because if it hadn't been it would have died by now 😂 My P38 range rovers diff breathers come right up the firewall with the lines for the air suspension.
Great channel love your work. You were also talking about diff breather, FYI all Land Rovers have comprehensive diff / gearbox / transfer-box breather lines from factory.
Diff and box breathers.... Firewall mounts are common and to be honest, lazy crap. Feed to the inside of the airbox which should stay dry. You get water in there, you got bigger issues. Reasoning: Mounting in the engine bay will likely result in smells inside the cabin and if you know diff and box oils, they stink. Airbox will see the smells burnt off.
@@MiniLuv-1984 Another tip is be carefull with PEX style lines and their quick-couplings. These with constant movement move and can leak. PEX is fine for fixed mounting but you won't beat rubber and nipples for the areas that move a lot.
go bonnet entry snorkel ! save that guard, bonnets are easier to find imo. and by the way are you running your stereo off a 2nd battery or the primary ?
Hey Dan The Wagon is looking great, like those gull wing window doors. I recall some time ago you bought that old Hilux with the 253 V8 in it. What happened to that? I have a registered 1981 one with a 253 in it. I was looking fwd to seeing you guys doing something with it.
Awesome really enjoyed this you have a great wagon there Dan ...I have a TB42E manual and love it what a great wagon....as you do a lot of back country running etc how do you find the auto ? would you have preferred a manual ?.......Love all Aussie Arvos vids so keep em coming guys.....cheers
Not sure where he got his info from about the ceramic dot-matrix on the glass but maybe look further into it 😂 and take a look at how glass is toughened and the heats it can handle
When I did a diff breather install on my Dads 76, the rear diff went psssst when I disconnected the rubber hose.... So, I'm assuming that the filter was blocked and prevented the pressure from escaping.😬
Looking good 👌 not a nissan guy but would hate to see you cut a whole in that gaurd, why don't you just cheaply paint another gaurd would be good content on the channel,
Regarding mineral vs 100% fully synthetic oil, I though the latter was better for longevity. I've read it keeps much better consistency wth its viscosity than the former. So it that incorrect?
Dad got a kzn165r hilux that he gave to me I'm 14 but in the 20 years of dad owning the hilux and being a 4wd he barely uses 4wd so every now and then I'll but in 4wd and let the front diff get a bit of lubrication and get then manual hubs working
Hey Mate, question... random I know... haha... the little dual colour LED light in the gullwing. Is there a brand name on it? .... Heaps of people sell the 300, 600 or 900mm versions... Ive never found one that small and would love to know who sells them here...
What brand of shocks would you use for a stock ride right used mainly on the road? Ultima seem to cheap, but not many options for stock ride height. Thanks
Nah, I've had 98 in my GTI and my wife's GTI sitting for 3+ months during lockdown and it did not gum the injectors in either car. Both are high pressure direct injection, not low pressure port injection The ethanol in 91 and 95 is far worse, especially in a carby car where it will rot out your fuel hoses. Don't buy "98" from that servo again.
Yay! Dans back, I enjoy Dans videos :)

Awesome to see Dan back . Agree with him got 4 cars and it’s hard to keep them all running same time and maintenance is key
solid advice guys on maintenance, I have lived by this since my dad taught me some 30+ years ago when I got my first car 👍
Always hated the steel emu wing & wanted to make a custom glass one myself, so that it would look factory. Finally they are making them. Yes I have wondered for years about the black edging on the glass
Dan is absolutely the man.

Loved the additional info on why black glass stickers have a gradient. I'm sure it's pushed out a core memory from my brain. Totally worth it. 😂
Love it Dan "There might be some negative comments....and I don't care". Good on you for your general attitude. Thanks for the content lads. Cheers
Also is good to run your winch in and out a few times if not used often. Learnt some new things cheers boys.

Dan is so eloquent. Great to watch and listen to
Stress factor in the glass!!! What!!! Thanks dude makes sense. I’m 50 and never knew that.👍
Great to see more of Dan's videos, why don't you just use a bonnet entry snorkel so the guard doesn't get a hole
Thanks for the advice. I have three cars and it's hard to share the love and drive them all regularly.
Thanks for the random fact about the dots on autoglass..👌
I genuinely like information like that..😊

Great to see the Patrol. Needs a little dried mud on it 😁
Good vid Dan l put my rear diff breather in the Quarter panel much shorter distance but that's me. Thanks for sharing ✔️
Wouldnt you get the smell of diff oil in the cabin that way?

That fact about the glass was one I didn’t know I wanted to know.

Oh...... Well Done "Dan" Love Ya Work MmaaaaTte !!!!!
Awesome video fellas! 👍 love the window upgrade on the emu wing Dan !
Thanks Kyle!
go bonnet entry snorkel ! save that guard, bonnets are easier to find imo. and by the way are you running your stereo off a 2nd battery or the primary ?
I go through the firewall and out the window then there's no holes to be seen.
great maintenance video fella's , i so much wanna take to the engine bay with some hot soapy water and a washing up brush
Love every one of your cars Dan, bloody beautiful 👍👍

BLOODY RIPPER
Knocking on the door of 100k subs fellas. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Getting close now!!
Such a GOOD VIDEO!! Well done boys!
Thanks mate!! means alot!
Don't you dare put a hole in that guard
I missed the patrol I’ve been wondering what’s been happening but great video as always Dan

What about a through bonnet snorkel? It will save the panel

Good question HammerRocks. That was my impression too.
I believe synthetic's additives will go off first, worth a U tube search imo.

What would you recommend if you were going overseas for two months or something and you have a car stuck in Australia and don't want it to sieze up.
put a bonnet entry snorkel in so you domt have to chop the fender
Awesome rig.
Yes

98 doesn't have more power, its just fuel that can be run in higher compression engines without pre ignition.
What brand of shocks would you use for a stock ride right used mainly on the road? Ultima seem to cheap, but not many options for stock ride height. Thanks
Another great video lads

Do a bonnet entry snorkel
When is the td and manual conversion coming ?
Nah, I've had 98 in my GTI and my wife's GTI sitting for 3+ months during lockdown and it did not gum the injectors in either car. I’ve ran my patrol off 30yr old diesel. Stank like shit but it ran fine 😂
When we getting the patrol build, though
Next week!
those coiled diff breathers , yuk , great trap for catching rubbish and getting ripped off . simple reinforced rubber hose is best
Where did you get the weather shields from?
OCAM 4x4
Good video mate. You’re very knowledgeable. I’m guessing you’re a mechanic? Nevertheless good stuff
i prefer to have a snorkel hole than to rebuild an entire engine due to hydrolock 😂👌

Yayyy 🎉🎉
why would you even look for another guard you already have one the right colour
Let’s do gum boys
😚 promo sm
Go the Patrol! wicked video ! well done ! 🏞️🛻📹🤙😎

Don’t use 98 in carby cars, no good for them and doesn’t run as good as 91 or 95 🫶🏻
