    Good video, and I like the way I could order his info. It made it much easier than going directly to Amazon and digging through all connectors to find the correct item.

    I think you should use a good surge protector in that attic. Try not to over populate the socket with too many power cords. Thank you for the amazing videos

    Great video! But one question: Why did you use a micro USB cable for lenghten instead of a "normal" usb cable?

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  4 роки тому +3

      No reason..you can just use a regular USB cable also..

      Nope. I still have my Ring cameras. The only one that I sold was the original Ring doorbell because I upgraded to the Ring Pro.

    You should wrap all your plug connections with electrical tape to help weatherproof the plugs and keep the ends connected

    Why not just get a long and good quality microusb to usb extension cable? I was looing to how to waterproof the cctv connection port.

    Excellent video and links. Thanks! I do have an outlet in my garage and a soffit so will drill into my soffit and attach the USB plug on the inside so the hole will be smaller. Then will run an outdoor extension cord inside the garage attic to the outlet to make a clean install. Can one rotate the camera lens eye like one can do with the Yi Dome?

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  5 років тому

      Thanks. Yes, you can position the camera so that it will be right side up either in a wall or soffit install.

    Thank you for posting. I saw your review for the Yi outdoor camera but Amazon no longer sells it. Do you know where else I can buy it from?

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  6 років тому +1

      The started selling it again. They pulled it off the market due to their app was removed by Apple in the App store. It took a couple of weeks before their new app got approved. amzn.to/2DXJ7PS

    Does it have date stamp when previewing aside from the app? Does your other Yi home cameras have date stamp too?

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  6 років тому

      As far as I know, No. There is no date stamp but I have seen footage of the Yi though that has a date stamp and I think it is the Chinese/International version.

    Am I right in saying that this camera only connects on WiFi. If yes another issue will be getting a strong signal outdoors.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  6 років тому +2

      Yes, it only connects to WiFi and yes, you need to have a good WiFi signal. I use a WiFi extender in the garage for my Ring Floodlight to work properly. I had no WiFi issues with the Yi yet.

    Hi Hackster. I just installed this cam yesterday and having a few issues. When I modify my region it is not letting me click back to go back to the options menu. I can be 10 foot from the cam but the alarm will not go off. Any ideas to my issues? I’ve uninstalled the cam and the app both it still continues. I reset the cam as well. This morning, my wife came home and it didn’t dectect her motion or car. Your help is much appreciated! Thanks

    I think you should just provide longer cable, someone can just come and disconnect your camera and that’s it. Your best installation was the one to the attic no one can mess with you cables

    Hi, I need some help with protecting the 3 wires of the reolink cameras that split to 3 wires. the camera wire is not long enough. i am using wif so only need to get th 12v power supply but then all three wires are exposed. So I would have thicker wire on one side and the thinner power wire on the other side. Are their any solutions like that Christmas tree box but would weather seal and protect? Thanks

    • @LifeHackster

      The Yi outdoor camera is designed to be outdoors..rain, shine, snow. They have the Yi home and dome cameras that are not designed for outdoors but I know some people have installed them outdoors but as long as it is in a covered patio/veranda, it should be ok.

I have a friend who also uses yi but indoor only issues he’s come up with is that some how the memory card goes bad. You might want to get the cloud service. Not with Yi..their USB is for power only. You have to use your smart phone to access the recordings or pull out the micro SD card and view it on your computer.
