I choose to believe on the palanquin the indents in the wood for the bearer's hands weren't there before they picked the thing up, they just molded the wood to better suit them This army has finally pushed me over the edge and into AoS
That Pontifex would go excellently well with the Cawdors for a mad diorama of how “normal” Imperial citizens go about their usual worships in contrast to Sisters of Battle who are giving away more regal feel rather than feral like Cawdors. Exciting stuff. I really like how different ranges can come together quite coherently and make something that wasn’t planned for, something unique with a little tweaking. But maybe, just maybe, there’s some overall design philosophy that is used to blur the lines between the ranges to allow for more customisation and creative freedom while still not looking too out of place whether in 40k or AoS, which being perhaps a bit cynical, also works for increasing GW profit margin by allowing people to dip into more than range. But frankly, fuck it, I love those models more and more every new release frankly
The Ironweld cannon has 2 piece ammo with black powder bag charges and what look to be 2 types of projectile, love that type a detail especially the fact the guns chamber is removable for loading.
That Cities of Sigmar range looks absolutely incredible. Overall it has just a perfectly grimdark feel to its aesthetic that ironically reminds me of some classic Old World Warhammer art. It is so hard to pick a favourite model from such a stellar line up, but that battlefield surgeon might just inch out ahead of the others - I am a sucker for a sinister Plague Doktor mask. The awesome cannon model in all its mini-diorama glory is also a standout for me. It is especially interesting to see the progression toward early shells in this cannon design, and the crewman taking a swig of something to fortify himself mid battle is another great little detail. All in all, I think I know what my next AoS army will be, and the potential here for 40K kitbashing, especially of an Imperial Guard army hailing from a low tech feudal world, is practically limitless.
The surgeon you're thinking of is Robert Liston, prime example of Scottish Excellence and genuinely quite a good surgeon, from what I've read. Also the man was fucking huge, both height wise and being absolutely BUILT due to all the bone sawing. While on the topic of dudes that rock, the one guy having a lil drink next to the cannon? You know for a fact that he brewed whatever the hell is in that jug himself in some 'still he has set up in the woods. It's probably doubles as emergency propellant, if there's any left.
The mounted guy looks like a great counterpoint to that Nurgle Knight harbinger guy. Hopefully next Golden Demon there'll be a diorama or two with them both. The Spymaster/Whisperblade is another in this range that just screams Discworld/Ankh-Morpork to me too, an assassin's guild assassin through and through, or with the right head swap, and it's s Patrician Vetenari.
@@Bmbach I'm just saying you could turn the palanquin into a literal horny jail. Give the guys carrying it some clubs with which to bonk people who need to be put inside. Naturally as this is Slaanesh, being in horny jail is a position of honor.

What makes the Pope even funnier is that she's carried around because using wheels are Heresy. But I wonder what you'll love more though, them or the tiny not-epic cyclops demolition vehicle
i just love the idea that the guy at the back just has to stare at this waxy skeleton for the entire duration of the journey also the cannon pose with the serpent lighting the pan with the flash is gorgeous, i would absolutely have to paint the inside of the barrel glowing with a beautiful orange red, the millisecond preminition of doom as the ball, wadding and burning powder is rushing out. an absolute split second scene which even the experience camera crew would struggle to catch... it's triggering my reenactor chills and i love it!

Ok so I just now realize why they said speed reloading at that cannon. They pretty much have a piece of the canon separate where they load the shell and then fix it in the canon. So while one is shot the other can be reloaded already.
IGoing slightly off topic, love that manticore Tahlia Vedra is riding. It feels like it's been a long while since we saw a good manticore model from GW.
I'm 10 hours late on this thanks to being at GenCon, but, oh my goodness, even just your reaction to the first look at Zenestra is the best thing ever.
I've got to get that command set, even if I don't get round to getting any of the rest of the range. Those characters are just so unique and interesting!
That palanquin with the flaming skeleton reminds me of an old Bretonian model where peasants/fanatics act as the horse for a dead knight. Absolute nutters.
Isn't this whole new range is just weirdly similar to the recent Astra Militarum revamp? You have the sentinel (the ogryn fella with the gunner on top) the field ordnance battery (Ironweld Cannon) the heavy weapon squad (the shielded gunners) you,ve got the very customisable castellan (marshal) Lord Solar Leontus (the manticore lady or the Cavalier Marshal) the command squad with a banner bearer, veteran, surgeon etc. the Rough Riders (the Cavaliers) You got the old lady commander Ursula Creed (Pontifex Zanestra, bit of a stretch) Its basically the same isn't it? We just lack a Rogal Dorn substitute...
This is shaping up to be one fantastic looking army. It does make me feel a little bad for those people playing factions with only a half dozen or so unit options (FEC, OBR), but I guess their time will come. Maybe. Some day.
OK I am kinda satisfied, I feel like this is a good revival of the COS range not like a massive reveal, I think we get city ogors in the new ogre book, priests and more range, but this is kinda a good start it the kinda range that is the very beginning for a good amount of models, let's just hope they stop realising new stormcast and focus more on other models like the idoneath, flesh eaters and umberneath, I like it, also ps, I hope the squad have a unique ability were they can split up into separate heros

The palanquin while nice looking is so stupidly heavy that it would take two highly augmented space marines to lift the stupid thing, and no way two normal humans could, That could only mean it is magically lightened. Another great example of over-sculpting by GW.
