I do not consider anyone on Suboxone or Methadone as clean. They are on ORT. When your opiate receptors are filled it is just not reality that the person is in a natural or clean state. The only reason people are told they are clean when on these medications is because that is how the medications were marketed. Now I do believe that Suboxone and Methadone have no doubt saved lives but only as a LAST RESORT. The simple way to look at the "are they clean or not debate" is to stop taking Suboxone or Methadone by either going cold turkey or tapering. Going through withdrawals is the only process of cleaning your body and bringing your brain back to a natural state.

Ryan Donnelly I also agree with you and this recently sparked debate on my channel. I am over 1 year off methadone and take no meds at all. I have a beer on the weekends but that is it and I am finally starting to enjoy, really enjoy life again. Suboxone or methadone should only be used as a last resort. The withdrawal is so drawn out and dark. It is mostly mental but as we all know, the physical part is the easy part! At just over a year, June 8th was my anniversary of getting clean, I still struggle with days of extreme depression and anxiety. I have certainly leveled out a lot over this past year but it is still there. I tell others that the half life and potency of these opiates is hard to overcome. I would prefer intense physical withdrawal from short acting opiate withdrawal over the drawn out pain of methadone or suboxone withdrawal. I didn’t mention that I started methadone after failing to get clean from a 6 year suboxone prescription. It is replacing an opiate with a stronger, longer lasting opiate. Some say it is useful for putting your life back together but if someone can’t get clean off short acting opiates they are gonna learn the hard way when they dive into a year battle with recovery from suboxone or methadone. Of course I wish everyone luck but if an alcoholic said they were sober because they switched from alcohol to beer, would this be the same argument? Doesn’t make sense. If you are still on an opiate every day, you are not clean. When reality of empty opiate receptors truly hits, you will understand. Being clean, off opiates is not being on a maintenance opiates. 100% agree!!

Hey Ryan I agree with you about the sub. Your not really clean till you get off everything. I should know because I’ve been battling sub addiction for the last ten years . I’ve managed to quit a handful of times but end up back on because when I quit I seem to lose all pleasure in life and that feeling lingers. It’s been a battle. So Ryan your right, and if anyone reads this and is thinking about taking sub just remember it easy to get hooked and its hard to get off. Thought I would give my two cents. My goal is to beat this addiction and not trade it for another.

I went with the liquid handcuffs. I stopped using and tapered down.. but what the clinic failed to tell me was that I was tapering way too quick. I was on 95mg the highest and relapsed at 7mg. Started all over. I had a new mindset when I hit restart and I was successful. Cut EVERYONE outa my life. Focused on ME. It's totally 110% your mindset and being focused. If u want it-u will get it...

i completely agree with you. i chose to do it cold turkey. the people who got on subs when i was kicking are still, yrs later, hooked on it. cold turkey is hellish. but it really is the most effective way, long-term.

My mom tried to get me to get on methadone or suboxone but I really didn't want to be dependent on another opiate. So just a week ago I quit cold turkey from my script of 120 10mg oxy and alot of dope. But I'm feeling more myself now after those few days of hell from a 3 year addiction. You really helped me Ryan to be more confident and proud. Just letting my brain recover now and everyday feels a bit better.

Nikky Mcnally I feel a little bit better I know that feeling all to well of almost going to meth or subs because of the agony. The sun really does feel much better after this because I haven't even noticed how numb I was. I've been alone a while now and still don't know what to do now that I'm over it. Just hoping I find out what to do

I have to say subs are a BITCH to get off. I’ve been trying to taper for almost 3 years now. I keep getting down to 2 mg daily and then something happens and I go back up then have to start it all over again. While this really sucks I am very glad that I haven’t touched a pill in over 6 months. This life though not sober, is 10x better then the crazy ride off pills. My advice is if you simply cannot ever get off the pills or worse stuff, then this is a great alternative but as Ryan said, as a LAST resort. I can tell you from experience that taking subs long term has had SO many side effects. The worst of them being constipation and being numb sexually is never a good thing with the ladies. Also the daily fear of an emergency happening and not being able to have pain meds has haunted me for years. I pray to god I can finish this taper in the next month or two. God speed to anyone fighting this fight, it’s been the hardest thing in my life!

I’m so happy I watched this video. I’m on day six from the fentanyl patch and today was by far the worst, though I’m feeling a bit better tonight. IM NOT FREEZING UNDER FOUR BLANKETS, DRIPPING WITH SWEAT! However at 5 am I was so worn down I thought screw it, I need help! Didn’t go and now I think the worst of the physical withdrawal is over. The video I watched before this one was about taper or cold turkey. I know someone who tapered very well, I secretly hate him!!! I wish. Almost seven days now!!!!! I haven’t gone a single day without in 11 years. Thank you!

Works great for someone with self control. Problem is drs aren’t educated enough to know how to prescribe and how long a person should be on. Everyone shouldn’t be allowed to prescribe it when they have no clue.

I completely agree. I was on subs for five years and got off of them and have been clean for almost three years now. It’s not impossible. If I was giving advice now, for most people I would recommend cold turkey no subs no methadone. There is no real way out except just going through the withdrawal and getting it over with. Life goes on. Just gotta be tough for a while if you really want to get better.

You should really consider a taper plan with your doctor, even it's slowly. A taper over maybe 2 years could really help minimize any withdrawal symptoms when you do decide to leave it behind.

Can someone please tell me, in their personal story/opinion, how long before they; 1. were able to sleep normally? 2. Feel 'normal'? and not depressed 3. No longer crave the drug.
Day 7 cold turkey. Physically all pain gone except for major depression, insomnia, cravings and anhedonia.

Hello I have been clean off opiates for 2 years. I used drugs for 13 years almost daily. I was up to 375 milgrams of oxy. For me I used benedryl to help with sleep my sleep returned after about 2 weeks. My depression faded around 4 months. Please try and go to NA and get a support system it will get better. Try and drink plenty of water and eat all whole food no junk food.

I commented on this video a day or 2 ago I wanna say if you're coming off suboxone it will be hard yes but I'm on day 14 today and there's a light at the end of the tunnel I feel amazing today restless legs are still there and if I get excited or happy or something I start sweating but that's it no more chills at all I went from 16 mg for a few years cold turkey it can be done don't let your doctor talk you into staying on that shit

I agree and disagree i think certain people just can't stop and would be better off on subs than dying also yes very long half life it took me about 3 days to get sick at all and it peaks around night 5 I went 16 mg cold turkey and it still sucks I'm day 13 now still achy and stuff whereas dope I would have been feeling great by now and the sub withdrawl isn't as intense but it last twice as long maybe longer I was on it for 3 years I'm day 13 feeling ok today felt okay the last few days just sucks at night when I get restless legs around 6-7pm everyday they say that's the last to go but yes you should not trade dope for subs it's just as evil in its own ways

From someone who has tapered off of methadone twice and suboxone once I can agree with most of what you are saying. I relapsed after tapering off of methadone the first time because I didn't work a program and do any therepy. What the clinics don't do is help you get to the root of the problem. One thing I disagree with is the withdrawls after. The first time I got off of methadone I didn't experience any withdrawals, actually the opposite I got a very euphoric feeling from being done with that garbage. With all of that said I can agree that getting clean from the beginning is ideal but with a Detox facility or Dr to help and a program or rehab in place.

    • @MaineReactor
      @MaineReactor 6 років тому +2

Layla Hudson I didn’t start true physical withdrawal off methadone for 2 weeks. At day 13 or so I started real withdrawal from the methadone and at over a year clean today, I still experience symptoms. Methadone withdrawal is mostly mental after the first 40 days. I didn’t sleep a full night for 4 1/2 months. My first 11 days were euphoric as well, like you said, just knowing I was finally getting clean and the fact that these meds stay in our bodies for days. I would recommend it only as a last resort as well. Not something anyone who doesn’t wanna face withdrawal should be prescribed. The whole are you clean thing though, no, definitely not. I agree that if you are taking an opiate to be “clean” from opiates makes absolutely no sense at all. Honestly, being someone who used both suboxone and methadone as well, I never once considered myself clean while on them. Alcoholics are not sober because they switched from whiskey to wine are they? It just isn’t logical.
