I'm not a dead things nerd, but I absolutely love The Brain Scoop. Emily just gets so excited about everything and it's awesome! This is one of my favorite channels.
I'm really glad I clicked this video. This kind of stuff isn't really my thing but the breadth of Emily's knowledge and how easily she accessed it was mesmerizing. I bet she could do the same for most anything that comes through the door.
I absolutely love this channel. I graduated from Museum Studies a few years ago and I'm not working in the field so I'm going to live vicariously through Emily. I once had to work with a bear skull (and other animals as well) and this is making me nostalgic for that job again!
I love this!! Totally unscripted, we can see just how passionate and knowledgeable you are about animals and specimen preparation. Your brain really shows when you do this, and that's awesome. Not that I don't enjoy your usual scripted videos, but this is just a different taste. It's so cool. I'd say that you should do more videos like this, but I get that it's rare to happen to have a camera out when you come across unexpected situations like this.
Georgia Baddeley Totally. She doesn't know everything, even if she knows a lot, so it would be quite the test to see how much she remembers from her past things. It could be Hank vs Emily.
What I really love about this show is that you can tell that Emily really knows what she's talking about and really loves this. This is an impromptu video and she comes out with all of this biological knowledge and it's just brilliant!
Emily, I just want you to know, I LOVE THIS CHANNEL. When I see a new video has been posted, I get so excited. I love animals, and I love learning new things, and this is just right up my alley. Thank you for existing, and thanks to Hank for finding you!
Hands down one of the most ingenious and allround greaest ideas for a channel. So well executed and honestly one of my favourites. Thank you Hank for supporting this, Thank you Michael and Karen for your behind the scenes work. Thank you University of Montana for allowing this greatness to be shared with the world and finally...THANK YOU, EMILY! Your passion and knowledge for all of this shows through and it is honestly inspiring! Thank you and I can't wait to see more :)
The reason that you can still find teeth in the jaw bones of the skull even after someone has died is because the teeth have long roots that are attached deep within the bone. When a person is alive, these roots are attached within the bones by lots of little ligaments (called periodontal ligaments). These little ligaments secure the teeth to the bone.
Hank is an old English heroic epic poem consisting of 3182 alliterative long lines, set in Scandinavia, commonly cited as one of the most important works of Anglo-Saxon literature.
I love how enthusiastic you are about this stuff. I would be super excited, too! I'm studying biology at Copenhagen University, only just started in September, but I loooved it when we had zoology exercises (yay dissecting stuff) in this certain classroom - the walls all around were lined with skeletons and things in jars. There's a full mounted komodo dragon skeleton on one of the tables! I hope we'll do more stuff later in that room. Skeletons are badass!
I LOVE these shows! You know so much about animals, and I love that there's a show about museums. There are so many cool things in museum storage rooms. I work at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential museum, and you would not believe the stuff they have there!
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite subscriptions. I actually squealed with excitement when I saw it in my in box. (By the way, I am not a teenager, I am the mother of teenagers)
The subtle placement of the raccoon was excellent. It's like he's following me as I watch these videos. And thanks to Emily, I know that the pitting in the skull you she is caused by old age and bone deterioration!
Just found out that the Craighead brothers they mention are siblings to Jean Craighead George, one of my favorite authors as a kid. She wrote things like My Side of the Mountain and Julie of the Wolves - it makes sense that her brothers would be famous naturalists. I enjoy everything on the Brain Scoop, but that extra tidbit was very neat.
In a previous video they showed a case in which they had a colony of beetles which ate the flesh off of the bones. It's a quick and effective way to get it off, and the beetles are happy so it works well.
I really loved this video. It sounds like this channel will have a huge variety not just of information but in the way it is presented, which I think is really cool.
I love how you show makes me research how long a black bear live. THEN I re-watch it in marvel and excitement at finding a 20 year-old black bear skull.
I just love people that passionate about sth. Even if it is something I don't know much of, or am not interested in, I can sit and listen to them for hours and become heavenly intoxicated by their knowledge. Thank you Emily. :)
I sort of wish this done in a more sci show/ crash course way with the production instead of feeling like micheal just happened to be there on the right day... i love emily though! she is amazingly knowledgable and passionate!
I noticed on your tumblr you mentioned going out and finding the rest of the skeleton, that it might make a good episode. DO IT. That would be awesome!
My god, that is such an awesome find. I would like to ask if it would be possible for you to show the process, later on in the year, by which you prepare a skull/bone starting from beginning till the end, or is there some legal issue that prevent you from doing so.
The amount of information that people like Emily see to have right at their fingertips is almost as astonishing as the size of a grizzly bear's back molar
Hey fishcustardlove! I'm pretty sure that measurement was in reference to the distance the molar was from the front of the skull, not the size of the molar itself.
Could you make an episode about the process of getting a specimen museum ready or whatever you prep it for. I heard you talking about Beetles and peroxide. Is that it or is there more to it?
I was in the middle of writing "time to feed the beetles", but guess not for this skull. Which leads me to a question - where is the level of remnant-tissue that is safe to assume humans can pick off, vs the stuff that needs that fine-pincer touch?
physics better than biology. Considering I have never found the the animal kingdom that interesting and espically when there dead all that interesting there is enough jokes in it to make me want to watch. ITS A COMPLEMENT or it was at least supposed to be. I'm trying to say your a good presenter.
When she said "That was awesome!" IT WAS A REFERENCE TO BONES WHEN THE SCIENCE GUY COMES AND ALL THE KIDS SAY THAT WAS AWESOME!!!! Just when I thought I couldn't love this girl anymore.
I was about to excitedly post a little wittily observant comment about bear guys, and having a bear guy, and like, something like "You know you're working at a zoological museum in Montana when all your friends have bear guys", but then both the top comments are about bear guys. I thought I was original! Turns out, other people are also original.
I love how genuinely invested in this Emily is. Seeing people who are passionate about what they do is so great.
oh man, Emily is so knowledgable. I love how clever and well versed she is, and she's not even paid at the museum! Crazy!
It makes me so happy to see how genuinely excited you are about stuff like the bear skull, it really does.
The way emily gets so excited about this stuff is contagious. Interested teachers create interested students. Thank you so much for everything you do!
Thank you, Hank! For listening to your fans and getting more Emily for my learning brains!
I'm not a dead things nerd, but I absolutely love The Brain Scoop. Emily just gets so excited about everything and it's awesome! This is one of my favorite channels.
The size of those zygomatic arches scares the heck out of me because that's where the masseter muscle fits.
May I say that I loooove the music for this series. Michael, you always make it so perfect!!
I'm really glad I clicked this video. This kind of stuff isn't really my thing but the breadth of Emily's knowledge and how easily she accessed it was mesmerizing. I bet she could do the same for most anything that comes through the door.
Found this channel 3 days ago and I've been binge watching ever since. Definitely my favorite channel now and this type of videos are the best
I absolutely love this channel. I graduated from Museum Studies a few years ago and I'm not working in the field so I'm going to live vicariously through Emily. I once had to work with a bear skull (and other animals as well) and this is making me nostalgic for that job again!

***** infectious indeed, in the best way.
What if guests or co-workers played something like 'what the function' with Emily? That'd be super fun to watch!
Georgia Baddeley Totally. She doesn't know everything, even if she knows a lot, so it would be quite the test to see how much she remembers from her past things. It could be Hank vs Emily.
Celebrating Emily getting the Brain Scoop back by going back to watch videos I missed!
guy with the beard canyon feels the awesomeness right there at the end
Bwahahaha! Beard canyon. Hilarious
"Beard Canyon" I can't decide if that's a cool thing or not.
I love watching Emily talk about this grizzly head. You can tell how excited and passionate she is about what she does and that's just fantastic!
I love how passionate Emily is about this. You rock.
What I really love about this show is that you can tell that Emily really knows what she's talking about and really loves this. This is an impromptu video and she comes out with all of this biological knowledge and it's just brilliant!
I just love Emily like so much. She seems like an amazing human.
I'm glad you're being so proactive. You never know when you're going to have a bear-related incident.
I know someone just before me said it but your enthusiasm for your subject is infectious.
Holy crap, Emily knows so much stuff! Go Emily!!
Emily, I just want you to know, I LOVE THIS CHANNEL. When I see a new video has been posted, I get so excited. I love animals, and I love learning new things, and this is just right up my alley. Thank you for existing, and thanks to Hank for finding you!
I love how passionate she is talking about this. So so much.
I love listening to Emily talk about this stuff. She overflowing with knowledge and passion!
Is it just me that needs to hear the "It still has brains on it" at the end?
This was so legit, oh my goodness. I also just love that Emily is clearly incredibly intelligent, but she's just so down to earth and awesome.
Emily smiles with her whole face! Love her enthusiasm, it's catching.
You can totally tell how Passionate Emily is. It's GREAT!!!
This is my favorite series on youtube right now. Absolutely love it!
I like how enthusiastic the guy was. People are much more interested in things if they're involved and he FOUND that skull so it's just awesome.
I really enjoy listening to Emily explain the history of the bear by examining the skull. So interesting!
I love watching people geek out with each other. It's only slightly less great than being able to geek out with someone else yourself.
Emily, your enthusiasm makes this all the more fascinating. Thanks for being awesome!
Hands down one of the most ingenious and allround greaest ideas for a channel. So well executed and honestly one of my favourites. Emily is too adorable, and I look forward to these episodes so much!!!
I love how kinda relaxed and casual this is compared to even stuff like Sci Show and Crash Course.

When a person is alive, these roots are attached within the bones by lots of little ligaments (called periodontal ligaments). These little ligaments secure the teeth to the bone.
I love how upbeat your music is. My brother has a similar job to Emily only he doesn't do any tours and its for the University of Florida.

I love it when Emily gets all excited...so cool to watch someone passionate about their work :)
Hope you find the rest of the bear skeleton and make a episode. It's so interesting to hear the history of the animal's life. More please and longer!
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite subscriptions. I actually squealed with excitement when I saw it in my in box. (By the way, I am not a teenager, I am the mother of teenagers)
I'm not a bone person, but I love seeing people talk about things they're passionate about! I love this channel so much XD
The subtle placement of the raccoon was excellent. It's like he's following me as I watch these videos.
And thanks to Emily, I know that the pitting in the skull you she is caused by old age and bone deterioration!
Emily, your enthusiasm is so awesome. I need to find something I'm that enthusiastic about. Thanks for inspiring me!
I LOVE Brain Scoop! :D Thank you so much Emily and Hank and Michael!

I love Emily and the Brain Scoop channel so much! you guys are great.
its great how she switches between really smart and really excited.
Oh man, I could listen to y'all nerd out all day. Well, not all day really, but a good hour or so.
I did not know you had an own channel. Please keep up doing such a great job! I totally love your field of science!
I will probably never tire of hearing "it still has brains on it" at the end xD keep up the fantastic work, Emily!
I would have never thought of creating a channel around this place but it totally works!
This is the best new science channel ever
Nice work snagging that off the cuff Michael, very nicely done.
You are so excited and enthusiastic, it's lovely!
I thoroughly enjoy your show! One of my favorites right now!
I came across this channel on he vlog brothers!!!! This is on of my new favorite channel!!!
She's so adorable and loves her job so much! This is a great channel :)
I sort of wish this done in a more sci show/ crash course way with the production instead of feeling like micheal just happened to be there on the right day... i love emily though! she is amazingly knowledgable and passionate!
Always impressed by someone in another field showing their mad skills. Emily you're so friggin' cool :D
I get so excited whenever there's a new Brain Scoop vid.
Keep em coming! :)
I love how " this still has brains on it" applies to every ep.
Emily, please make sure to include as many explanatory videos as possible in the future. Thank you!
Don't think I'm ever going to get tired of these videos, thanks! :)
The excitement over a bear skull is beautiful nerd energy release.
I noticed on your tumblr you mentioned going out and finding the rest of the skeleton, that it might make a good episode. DO IT. That would be awesome!

The amount of information that people like Emily see to have right at their fingertips is almost as astonishing as the size of a grizzly bear's back molar
Will always love this show
Did anyone else notice when she was talking about how he kept eating after he damaged the tooth, she said "Maybe thats why bears are so angry" xD
I Love The Brain Scoop! I can't wait to see more!!!
Hey fishcustardlove! I'm pretty sure that measurement was in reference to the distance the molar was from the front of the skull, not the size of the molar itself.
Yeah, she explained the beetles last week. Apparently its actually the larva that do most of the cleaning.
I totally associate the intro tune with Emily's personality. Well done!
i love love LOVE your enthusiasm.
"this is going to be on UA-cam you know". Thanks for putting this together!
I like the beards that are going on in this episode, also the reaction to the Grizzly Bear skull.
Could you make an episode about the process of getting a specimen museum ready or whatever you prep it for. I heard you talking about Beetles and peroxide. Is that it or is there more to it?
Really freaking grateful for my dentist right now. That bear must have been in quite a lot of pain.
The brain scoop is the best thing that ever happened to the world. ^^
I was in the middle of writing "time to feed the beetles", but guess not for this skull. Which leads me to a question - where is the level of remnant-tissue that is safe to assume humans can pick off, vs the stuff that needs that fine-pincer touch?
You've got so much awesome knowledge Emily!
physics better than biology. Considering I have never found the the animal kingdom that interesting and espically when there dead all that interesting there is enough jokes in it to make me want to watch. ITS A COMPLEMENT or it was at least supposed to be.
I'm trying to say your a good presenter.
New favorite UA-cam show!
I'm jealous... :D As a skull collector, I wish I could have a job like this!
When she said "That was awesome!" IT WAS A REFERENCE TO BONES WHEN THE SCIENCE GUY COMES AND ALL THE KIDS SAY THAT WAS AWESOME!!!! Just when I thought I couldn't love this girl anymore.
I was about to excitedly post a little wittily observant comment about bear guys, and having a bear guy, and like, something like "You know you're working at a zoological museum in Montana when all your friends have bear guys", but then both the top comments are about bear guys. the more i watch of hank's videos the more i think that all guys in montana have an epic beard besides hank.
I did not know that bear skulls have crests! Thanks, Emily!
I LOVE the music!
I had no idea you could tell that much just by looking at the teeth. This is so interesting!
Love this series, keep up the good work!
