Such a waste of money, set up a processing centre in Northern France, genuine asylum seekers can get safe passage, that would save lives and stop people crossing.
How would that stop people who don't have a genuine claim from crossing? They would just get on a boat after failing, or not bother using it at all. When the genuine claimants realise that the illegitimate ones are getting access to the UK more quickly, they'll also stop bothering.
