Given the age group the mag is aimed at and that he's a well liked character, I'm pretty sure they just added that in for the kids but heck, I'm down with it.
I’m just imagining Jaws living in a nice cabin in Switzerland or something happily drinking a hot beverage and watching the sun set with Dolly as they snuggle up by a nice warm fire
Used to love these when I was younger. I bought two copies of every issue and have an entire unopened set in my garage. I also took issue with some of the assigned scores on the trading cards, I feel whoever did them was a casual watcher. I mean, 100% loyalty for Bond, have they seen how many times he's gone rogue lol.
I loved these! Still have them and the cards somewhere - when I was younger I wrote my own James Bond "films" and even designed accompanying 007 Spy Files magazines... yep
Hi Calvin . I know you wanted to know why Sean Connery returned for the From Russia With Love game and I have the answer. Number one : his grandkids loved video games and his favourite Bond film was From Russia With Love. His grandkids ud be playin as there grandad tho that’d be cool , great and weird at the same time
I love stuff like this! So much nostalgia! Reminds me of trawling through James Bond trivia pages as a kid (these might be worth checking out, as they have some real nuggets!) My favourite fact (for its share randomness) is that Elliot Carver is not just the only British born villain, but also the only one who wears glasses.
I got into the Bond series through an Entertainment Weekly magazine celebrating 50 years of James Bond. The reason why it got me into the series was one of the pages was a map of the world and on that map were lots of icons saying where a big showdown took place, where a Bond girl was found, where a Bond girl died, where a villians lair was located, where a car, boat, jet ski, gondola, hovercraft, or elephant chase took place, and how a villain died (examples included getting shot, falling, getting stabbed or implaled, getting blown up, getting set on fire, so on and so forth). For example, North Korea would show a hovercraft chase, a big showdown, and "death" by falling.
What a nostalgia trip! You should have done the quizzes on the back of the mags - I remember you could find out what villains lair you would be. Or what intelligence agency you would work for haha
😎💯👍🏻❤️🙏🧼 If we Americans had Spy Files, I missed it. I was also a few years older than the target audience. I love this video. The cards are fascinating. I’m looking forward to your “The Spy Who Loved Me” review. It’s always been one of my favorites. Best. Stay safe.
Blofeld not being rated high in identifiable looks makes kind of sense.... the man looks totally different every time, if you see him at all. Then again, slapping the Donald Pleasence Version on the card............ oh well.
Although there isn't a new Bond movie that I can go see nor a new Bond novel that I can read, there still are new 007 video's from Calvin Dyson that I can watch. This makes me happy, thanks very much
Given that this series was part of a magazine, I am not surprised that Elliott Carver did so well. Thinking of the boss there were we? I'm sorry, Anya only got 84% for style. If they can give the space station 90s for almost everything then they can give Anya the same. Also, I'm seeing the trend that you really likes Fiona Volpe. Yeah, if the villains had style then she'd give Elektra King a run for her money. Had I been your age I would definitely have all these magazines. As it is, I never even knew they existed.
i had this but gave it to a friend. i was about 12 when it came out here in Australia. i was collecting them along with the Star Wars fact files. i was so stoked when i finally got the James Bond card :)
Blast from the past. I only bought the magazine when I was visiting the UK on holiday during the summer, so I don't have all the cards by far. But I do still have them.
I did have all of these myself but I had to get rid of them all sadly. Also from the UK myself. Really nice nostalgic video for me though. Wouldn't mind seeing more if you're happy to do so :D
Wow never saw that magazine ever! 007 magazine from the British fan club used to be on sale in comic shops here in New York but don’t remember seeing this one. Those cards look great! Love these new videos you are doing Calvin-I’m a Bond fan for almost 50 years and you have been showing things I’ve never seen! Well done!👍🏻
The person who designed these cards really loved the following movies because they are without doubt the most popular movies due to categories chosen: Tomorrow never dies (best vehicles, technology,,allies, villains) You only live twice(best location, villain) Moonraker(best location, vehicle, villain)
Wow, a blast from the past. These were released when I was 13 and loved it. The cards were the best. My local newsagent always saved me a issue even without asking him lol. If I remember correctly there were also shiny foil cards too.
Actually, they had been issued in France and translated in french. It was around 2002-2003 and they were sold with the movie dvds from Dr No to Die Another Day. So, French Bond fans only got 20 issues and they were called "007: dossiers secrets". Unfortunately, no card game for us! Great video, Calvin, as always!
During this era the Pokemon cards were a phenomenon in playgrounds all across the UK, I couldn’t have cared less about them, I collected all of the issues of spy files. I was around 10 or 11 at the time. Never ever acquired the James Bond card sadly! Still got the silver metal 007 tin with all the cards too! Great video!
I remember having a magazine all about 007 as a kid, it was some kind of one time special-magazine. Can't recall what it was called but it was really interesting.
These magazines played a huge part in making me a huge bond fan, back when I had to wait for a bond marathon on TV these gave me my fix. I'm 26 now and I still have my collection somewhere, wonder how much they're worth lol...
Yo Calvin, yes I too collected these in my childhood (I only missed just the one magazine along the way, but got all the others) in Australia. Used to absolutely love them as well, I never really myself played the card game, I just enjoyed collecting all the cards in general haha.
hey calvin...great video...here in the u.s., i never saw these magazines or cards before...but they are very cool...thank you for sharing them one by one...(and personally, i'd give michelle yeoh a hundred percent on everything....)...hope you are doing well...peace always...rocky
This is all before my time as a Bond fan, but I do remember Winning Moves’ Top Trumps games from back when I was a kid, they were great, I had several decks. Just done a quick Amazon search, and they’ve done a few Bond editions over the years - heck, the most recent edition came out in March to tie in with _No Time to Die_ so, uh, we can play that until November.
How the heck, do you keep this fantastic standard up, in every video you do? Well done Calvin. I remember being 11 too, but that was the year live and let died came out.
I have all the magazines and cards but mine is from around 2008. It also included all the Locations, Vehicles, Villains, Gadgets, Allies to all Bond the actors All these magazines and games where a great way of introducing young fans to the franchise and it's a shame they don't do these kind of things anymore.
I can't believe that no one has mentioned theose three decoder cards that were used in certain parts of the magazine. The red, yellow and transparent ones. If you remember the magazine well, you're probably know what I'm going on about.
There was a similar magazine in the late 2000's as well (around the release of Quantum Of Solace), The James Bond Card Collection. I got that when I was around 9-10 years old
Hi Calvin The magazine series was, sold in here in Australia. I bought the first issue, my interest didn't last long & never bought another issue. Suprisingly I still have the cards from the first issue.
11:11 I recall from visiting the Designing 007 props and costumes exhibition that Robbie Coltrane supplied his own tailor for his costumes, resulting in his distinctive mohair suits. Surely worth more than a 47% style rating on that basis.
Holy crap I had these magazines and I'd completely forgotten about them. I used to think they were so cool. Wonder if they are still in a drawer somewhere in my parent's house...
Oh my god! Those magazines were incredible! I still have every issue! The binder was a bit of of a pain to keep in good condition though. Amazing idea for a video. Never thought anyone would ever revisit this in a million years but oh man, there's so many memories flooding back to me now! Annoyed at how abruptly it all ended though. :(
Current M - 51% FIGHTING SKILLS!!!?!? So that's why there was no Moneypenny in Casino Royale!? She threw her across the desk! (with 81% style apparently)
I think those cards would have to be for the UK only, but it is very interesting to hear about them now. Maybe something of a newer version of this will be brought into play with this film... We can always hope!
Sherrif Pepper should have had 100% style. His style wasn't very attractive but he had a lot of it.I got issue one of that magazine and used the big tin to put other James Bond trading cards in. I was really into trading cards then. There's been some really beautiful sets relating to the Bond series.
I'd back Carver as one of the most intelligent villains. If he's capable of writing a war into history (which he almost does!) he's capable or writing it out as well. Interesting video. I suppose Honey and Kissy having a wardrobe of white bikini certainly ups the style.... It makes sense! ;)
This looks like it was terrific magazine, at least if you were a young Bond fan. Personally, I have never heard of it before, which is too bad. I am just slightly older than you (slightly) but this must have meant to you about what Starlog, Future Life, and Omni meant to me in the 1970s. They didn't have trading cards though. In The Man With the Golden Gun though, the instant he recognizes Bond and realizes they're chasing someone, he's with him all the way. He gives as much help as he can during the chase. When the cops show up, he takes the lead in trying to resolve the situation with them. Is he very effective at any of this? NO, but he is going to stick by Bond through thick or thin, up to the neck and in to the death. That's loyalty. I would have given Judy Dench's M a rather lower loyalty score. Hi Calvin, I presume you have a full set of Jonathan Cape books, with dust jackets? it would be good to hear some details of the publication history. Paul
there was a more recent version of bond trading cards after dr who battles in time came out and you got rare, super rare and ultra rare cards too with pretty much every single bond character in i think running up to the realise of quantum of solace.
Bond has definitely had three-ways involving Leiter. License To Kill hinted at it, and Goldeneye confirmed that it was a thing that was not foreign to him.
I have a different James Bond trading card game, but never got the chance to play because it turns out almost no one else is as interested Bond as I am. Oh well....
Did not know of this. Trevelyan should be tops in villian, my fav villian. Tracy should top in style, as Elektra and Solitaire. Onatopp and Oddjob for henchman. General Orumov should score well. Draco, Columbo, Pushkin, Shaw for allies.
Bond lost that 1% because he's distracted by Anything Female
Good point
Don't think so. He is Bond, not Superman, so 99 procent is Bond realistic and really probable.
"I do your ironing, do it your bloody self if it means that much", hahaha that's really recognizable.
1:39 there was actually a deleted scene in TWINE where Bond checks Zukovsky's pulse and he's still alive.
News I needed to hear.
Valentin didn’t die!!! That is amazing
I honestly wouldn’t have guess that.
Given the age group the mag is aimed at and that he's a well liked character, I'm pretty sure they just added that in for the kids but heck, I'm down with it.
There apparently was a deleted scene that showed him being treated by that one doctor
I’m just imagining Jaws living in a nice cabin in Switzerland or something happily drinking a hot beverage and watching the sun set with Dolly as they snuggle up by a nice warm fire
He's also working as a "security" consultant.
" _Ah Bond-san. They are very collectible!_ "
Aww man! This is a real nostalgia trip. Especially the two card tins.
Used to love these when I was younger. I bought two copies of every issue and have an entire unopened set in my garage. Where is my "Jump to the left", Calvin???
I loved these! Still have them and the cards somewhere - when I was younger I wrote my own James Bond "films" and even designed accompanying 007 Spy Files magazines... yep
It's Blofeld! Is my favorite sitcom.
I was obsessed with these in Year 6. Forgot they existed until now. 😂

Don’t they make a point of saying that Goldfinger is supposed to be British?
@@Orbis.Non.Sufficit oh yeah--mind you, given Goldfinger's very German accent, I wonder if that meant that he just lived in the UK?

What’s up with that first quotation?
@@TheRealBGregz It's the German way.
The bit about your mom doing your ironing was funny
The nostalgia....things were better then! I remember the excitement going to get these at the newsagents. I was 11-12.

Blofeld in Drag

0:42 Did the “leave secret messages” include the bit from the book _On Her Majesty’s Secret Service_ where Bond uses his piss as invisible ink?
Oops, too much alcohol in that piss!
I’ve still got those mags! Such nostalgia!
I'm UK based and I loved these cards back in the day. The moment you revealed the tins I got extremely giddy hahaha

Hi Calvin
The magazine series was, sold in here in Australia. I bought the first issue, my interest didn't last long & never bought another issue.
Suprisingly I still have the cards from the first issue.
Calvin, you're starting to pronounce Xenia's name the way Judi Dench did in Goldeneye Reloaded - "Zenia" xD
My friend and I went to see moonraker when I was 12 and got all the trading cards from the film, which I still have!
I remember those ! Good times!

I think Wade's style rating can be adequately explained by the Muffy tattoo
I did collect a few Bond magazines that came with trading cards, it was called 007 spy cards.
Holy crap I had these magazines and I'd completely forgotten about them. I used to think they were so cool. Wonder if they are still in a drawer somewhere in my parent's house...

oh my goodness the fact that Judi can apparently beat the shit out of Natalya really does highlight how confusing that bloody system is!
Does anyone remember the gadget pen that came free with one of the magazines?
It had a mic in it and could record audio for about 10 seconds.
I can confirm that these were available in Australia and I collected them myself
My god I remember these! Did you get the 007 spy recorder pen too? It was the free gift for taking out a subscription.
I think those cards would have to be for the UK only, but it is very interesting to hear about them now. Maybe something of a newer version of this will be brought into play with this film... We can always hope!

It's such a crime that there is no way for you to get the No One Lives Forever games. I would have LOVED to hear your take on them.

In The Man With the Golden Gun though, the instant he recognizes Bond and realizes they're chasing someone, he's with him all the way. He gives as much help as he can during the chase. When they reach Scaramnga's lair, he doesn't hesitate about jumping out of the car and following Bond into the very jaws of who knows what.
She said she wished Bond had not been released from North Korea, I think she said she wished he'd been killed in a different Pierce Brosnan one, and she threatened to have him killed herself in one of the Daniel Craig movies. Of course, I don't consider them canonical, so that doesn't really count. Also, i realize the cards cam out before most of these instances.
