Tintagel, King Arthur and Merlin's Cave: A circular, coastal walk to Bossiney, Cornwall

  • In this week's video we try a four mile circular walk around Tintagel, on the North Coast of Cornwall.
Our walk is inspired by a 1950’s souvenir guide which takes us from the centre of the village to the delightful cove, Tintagel Haven, where we discover Merlin’s Cave. After a quick explore, we pick up the South West Coast Path to Bossiney Haven before returning to Tintagel.
There are some wonderful old stories in this vlog, and the views are magical! We even try to find a petrifying well - the only one in Cornwall. In hindsight, we think we may have found it but not realised at the time! What do you think?
    The standard description bit…
We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on UA-cam, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!
We love your comments and read all of them. We also answer as many as possible. Unfortunately, we cannot answer comments received more than a week after publication.
    Frequently asked questions:
    What are your dogs called?
Sorry but we do not release the names of our dogs but perhaps you could make up a name for them!
    What camera do we use?
Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book three times. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.

Love this video. My dad was evacuated to Bossiney during the war. He spent many an hour on the beach exploring Merlin’s Cave, nearly getting cut off by the tide several times! He visited the place about 20 years ago & got chatting to an old fella weeding his garden. He mentioned his time there & the old fella said’ I remember you - and your brother Jacky’! Last year my sister visited & met the son of his evacuation ‘parents’ who showed her the cottage he’d called home for 3 years. He gave her several old photos too. My dad has such wonderful memories of that time, it made being apart from his family a little easier. I think this is one of the reasons we feel such a connection to the country of Cornwall 💜

What an entertaining video, with fabulous scenery, and two of the most adorable dogs that love excavating the beach, the new puppies coat is gorgeous, it looks like coffee & cream with a dash of chocolate, much like the yummy ‘Latte’I have just drank, I thought the sculpture of Merlin’s face was incredible, shame about the nose, I thought Andrew was very inspirational with the naming of Merlin’s Bench, and describing the magical view of the coast line, I believe the journey from Tintagel to Bessiney earned at least 10/10 Well Done 👏all four of you, and thank you 🙏 for taking us along 🤗

Digger McDog, lol! This was a fantastic treat! I've been a fan of the King Arthur legends since I was a teen. As an American, I have to admit I didn't have a clue how to pronounce Tintagel when I first read The Mists of Avalon. I love the Merlin carving. It's tasteful, and will be weathered by the sea over time. While I understand the need for the bridge, I agree that it feels modern and a bit out of place. I suppose a bridge like the one from Monty Python and the Holy Grail wouldn't pass current safety standards... You two really are troopers, and I'd love to see you (safely) brave Merlin's cave in waders to see what's on the other side. Beautiful views, indeed! It's like dessert for the mind. Thank you!

The second Archery Law of 1363 made it obligatory for Englishmen to practise their skills with the longbow every Sunday. The place where people would go to practice was called the Butts, usually located on the outskirts of villages or towns on common land to keep accidents down.
