I have the same car, the injector values that you see are very good if they don't pass 2.5 mg/h, anyway those values are when your engine is idleing, to know the real values when the engine is reving you need to go to a service when they put them on a special tester, PD injectors should show an error if they do have a problem, if they give too much gas or less gas than needed, missfiring or things like that.
Anyway, i found your videos very helpful, keep up the good work!
from my experience with the tdi engines is also that if someone (previous owners or mechanics) have replaced the battery, it's sometimes a low ampere battery so it struggles with the diesel engine especially when cold.

@@BWTV I had a 1.9 pd130 that had a dirty injector car had 150k on it try diesel pure helps alot I also did a teraclean fuel system clean that made biggest difference and cost £100 all my injector Value were close to o and the car felt like a new car had more power

Your glow plug light was flashing . Although it may not stay on all the time , I’d definitely change your glow plugs . It makes a hell of a lot of difference
Have you had any silencers removed from the exhaust or just a dpf delete? Because on my Audi A3 a dpf delete gave me no sound increase, but I got the middle box removed from my exhaust and it gave me a much deeper and much louder sound, the popcorn limiter sounds so much better after too👌🏻 my popcorn limiter was pathetic before
Simplest way of putting it is PD = pump duse is a mechanically driven injector whereas common rail is electronically controlled, PD doesn’t have a high pressure fuel pump like common rail does they have the tandem pump which is a low pressure fuel pump essentially!
Your Injectors are Siemens PD. PD means that each injector is its own high pressure fuel pump, driven by the exhaust camshaft. The idle stabelization values you showed should equal 0 at any moment. Because ist's only used for idle stabelization, all values go to 0, when you rev the engine. If the values don't equal 0, it's usually a good indecation of bad incetors. Your values seem good though, wich leads me to believe, that it is most likely an issue with the map. As for the starting issue, that could be the camshaft Hall-Sensor, as it determines, when to fire the injectors at startup and ist descibed by Audi as the "Fast starting sensor"

1:10 try to crank it for a shorter period so the battery doesn't suffer, also try to switch on and off 3 or 4 times so the glow plugs can heat more the cylinder (just to check if it helps)
Yeah I usually do, starts in the 3rd or 4th time these days only on a cold start
Hey, did you delete the EGR? Maybe it’s sticking which can happen even if it’s mapped out. Only way to sort it out is by fitting a plate.
Try unplugging the maf. Very similar issues when they are faulty but they go when unplugged

Hi yall. Just FYI. You don't have to remove the coolent hose clamo to gain access to the last bolt. Feel with you fingers. It will fit even with a 3/8th drive socket

ive had my VW touran PD170 for 3 years now and ive had enough of it taking about 10seconds to ignite... all spins over fine just wont ignite... a bit like how yours did at the start but mine eventually ignites.
im baffled on where to start next
Hey Brad what was your symptoms of the tandem pump? I think I have the same issue. My problems are stiff brake pedal when breaking letting off then breaking again. Also down on power and lower fuel mileage.
Mine struggled on cold start, changed everything apart from starter motor and that was the fault lol, even after garage said its battery,glow plugs etc
Dude, tandem pumps diesel leaks, alternator regulator assemblies, injector wire looms. Check this 3 things, the wire looms fail everyday, and the regulator assemblies too.
Had the same issue with my pd170 it was the turbo actuator
Was it stuttering/ hesitating with the turbo actuator?? When going from 3rd to 4th flat out as going into 4th in then judders a bit like hesitates, did you have to replace whole turbo?
The hesitation thing u talk about is the egr valve, is it when you’re coming to a stop?

I think the CR-engines sound more "petroly" than the PD-engines. I know what you mean by some of the diesels make a "pigeon-sound", I think it's the OEM-dump-valves on some cars. I'd go for cold-air-feed/carbon induction-kit and louder recirculating-DV...You'll get a more "SSSSCHH!" sound, when you put your foot down. Good to see another vid bro....

Maybe camshaft position sensor is bad, i changed everything like you before 2 years and it was still suffering with cold starts. After I replaced camshaft position sensor it started perfectly
Have you purged your fuel system?
Your tuner should run a log for you to check if it is injectors or the map before you go and try fault find and waste money

I literally wish I had you in my life 😭😭. We drive the same car but my car gives me so much problems and I don’t have the knowledge about cars like you so I can’t fix it myself; I’m a mechanical engineer by the way 😅. Anyway and because I’m a woman whenever I get it fixed they charge me a million.

You have deleted egr and egr cooler?
This is a pd 170 BNM engine injector failure is common mine was replaced by Audi at 60k now on 182 stilll going strong
Think it might be injectors if it struggles to start when it’s cold
I have a 2.0tdiA4 B7 too and I also have a problem starting the car so I replaced the car battery but it didn't help at all, so another option is a tandem pump
Also take a look into the crank sensor! I made a video on that one too
@@BWTVhi so i fixed my B7(bad start) the problem was in injector 1, now engine starts without issue and my fuel consumption is better, my mechanic told me that this injectors fail is common they die pretty often, i need to use premium fuel or injector cleaning fuel additives

I have the same model however I've not had the hesitation problems it's had the dpf removed & remapped as far as I know although I'm not sure what the output is the car itself has been a different pain in the 'Harris' my starting problem was the main starter motor live lead was loose due to 'Autotechnik' Blackpool as other things he missed out. I've had a leaky tandem pump gasket in the past. The stud the tightens the cam belt tensioner pulley sheared off 3 weeks into owning the car. Last problem has been a pain in the 'harris' for the rac recovery operative he didn't know the difference between an A3 & an A4 the actual problem diagnosed being lack of fuel the rac operative ripped up my back seat looking for my fuel pump, he battered my fuel tank with a lump hammer & then poured the fuel out of the filter on to the tarmac I said he better go after seeing that eventually the car went to Redman Autos Poulton for 5 months he lost the key eventually I asked for it back after no progress being made he said it needs an ecu I managed to find 1 with a matching key 433mhz I got the car back 5 days having it back I got it running the relays under the ecu had been sat in 3" of water 2 new relays & the 3rd cleaned up, fresh fuel in the new filter it started straight away so steer clear of Redman Autos Poulton & Autotechnik on the edge of Blackpool

I like the audi as much but would you consider looking into getting a bmw e46 any time, I've bought a e46 318i 2.0 petrol which is decent car has stock 143 bhp. Maybe get 320i or somthing.
Probably not, as a daily if I was to get something else I would probably get a newer BMW now

Question, Mine suffers with a bad fume smell, on tick over and running, you can smell when windows are down ( not closed ) I researched online and your video came up about the Tamdem pump. Did yours have this fume smell and did it cure it after you changed the Tamden pump?
Also my clutch, into 1st and 2nd is ok but not great, you comment saying yours improved after changing this.
I'm going to get mine changed so Thanks for the great video, just thouth I'd ask about the fume smell and if it cured it or did you have that issue as well?

I want to know the same thing pal did you manage to sort it? I've got a golf with the same engine I was worried it was injectors but most injector failures cut the engine instead of carry on running the only fault code I have is one for 02 sensor I replaced it and still get the same fault im wondering if oil in the diesel caused by the tandem pump failure is the cause of all this issues aswell as the awful smell it idles slightly rough but I wouldn't say misfire and there's no fault for misfire when code read so maybe its also letting small amounts of air into the system also??

Should of just replaced the internal seals full gasket kit about £25 rather than a whole new pump
How does that repair the problem if the issue is inside the pump and not the seals? If the pump is as old as the car then it’s definitely worth installing a new one.
Sounds like it wants a set of glow plugs for the starting issue
The VAG manual says the glows plugs are not doing anything until -5° & are not needed I've tested this theory out on mine I have the same model engine being a bad BRD piece of 🐕🦺💩 & I've disconnected the live lead to them & it started up just fine in cold enough weather maybe not -5° but ot still started straight away 3-4 engine turns fired up even with all the other problems I've had with it
there was a guy that said he had a tiny microscopic hole in his fuel pipe near the fuel filter and that it was causing the same cold start symptoms as you?
That's odd but I'll check that just incase

I don't floor it like I did my golf, it's purely a daily but it's just aggravating the odd occasion this boost hesitation happens. Dude I might have a solution for you, you should get your turbo checked out, after some milage the older vgt turbos set screws can go out of correct setting and cause the veins to close too much, which can cause hesitation when they have to open, like you have, check this video from 3:50, thought about your issue when I watched it. Pop the rocker cover off and check the exhaust rockers. I had same symptoms and rollers on the rocker arm had collapsed

It doesn't have rockers, it has hydraulic lifters actuated by the cam

Love your content bruh, good luck on your job ! PD engines are literally the worst vw engines ever built. CR is so much better or the older VP ones. PD is a technology for like huge trucks and when its compressed into a small 2L engine it just sucks. Nothing really serious other than injector problems and maybe eventually a cracked block/head.

I’ll bet everything I own that that starting problem is from a warped fuel filter housing they’ll be a small gap from prying the lid up with the flat end screw driver that’s letting air in an the fuels running back
Prying the lid up? There is no lid to pry up with a screwdriver the filter is a sealed item 1 bolt clamps it in the bracket, a snake clip holding 2 pipes in place & 2 compression clips hold the other 2 pipes I forget which pipes do what but there is definitely nothing to pry up with a screwdriver
@@JohnSmith-uq4zp wrong the fuel filter housing has about 6 bolts that needs unscrewing then the lid needs popping off to get to the actual filter do some research mate sounds like you’re talking about another car because I’ve got the common rail engine which is the updated engine above the ppd which uses a lot of the same components as the ppd so if you want this argument you’ve really picked the wrong person for this one cocker

Have you ever changed a fuel filter like the one you're talking about, with the 6 screws, yourself? Did you noticed the big beefy o-ring a couple of mm under the lid? That is the seal. It's not the screws and it's not the lid you're prying. You can bend that upper lid all day long, you won't bend the area where the o-ring seats and seals.
Your injectors are nearly ideal , don't waste money on fixing of changing them!

@@BWTV I did buy a replacement for the r. I can’t figure out how to send a pic. Technology challenged, although I did make a living creating package art for Kodak , on a MAC. I bought a 2020 Toyota 86, which is a twin to the Subaru BRZ. It’s not as fast as the golf r, but it’s more fun to drive, for some reason. Well it’s RWD, for one thing. I also got another dog. I just didn’t know what to do without my dog.
