      Exactly. I have that one and it's just so bad. It's crap. I bought it bc it was the one they had available in a store I ordered from and it was always really bad. Now couple years after buying I used it and turns out it has gone bad or something! How is this possible it ruined my watercolor. It just doesn't come out, it's all sticky. It really did ruin my painting. And that led me to this video to find a new masking fluid.

    I wish you had done a test for lines of masking fluid, I've found that sometimes the paint leaks under the fluid if the masking fluid is applied in thin lines. The sennelier and fineline ones might have done better on a thin line test as I imagine the formula is designed for thin/fine work. This was a really useful video, thank you.

  • @tarakincade501
    @tarakincade501 5 років тому +2

    This was really helpful. However! I learned new things in my own testing since I watched this video that make the Schminke and Windsor & Newton fluids more valuable. For both of them, the paper really matters. When I tested W&N on some Canson watercolor XL it tore it up horribly. But when I tested it on some hot press Arches watercolor paper it worked like a charm, no issues at all with color lifting or tearing. With the Schminke, I realized that you need to let it dry longer if you want to peel it up in one easy layer instead of having it rub into lots of little bits. The Schminke actually works really nicely, you just need to let it dry longer than an hour (not sure how much longer, it probably varies). This wouldn't be ideal for a project that you were trying to finish quickly.

    Thank you! Masking fluid was a horror show to work with for me! You have the brand I used and I’m surprised it worked so much better for you than it did for me. I bought one and I had such a hard time with it! It was pasty and chunky and dried the second I worked with it. Maybe it was expired or something. This is such a helpful video! I can finally find a masking fluid that’ll work with me.

    I have always used the Grumbacher frisket and its reassuring to know I'm not really missing out on much by passing on applicator style masking fluids.
