Dan Tracy is easily the most underrated part of Deafheaven, super fast and distinctive style, never overplays and supports the atmosphere of Deafheaven perfectly. All the critics here clearly have never listened to a Deafheaven song and come across as pretentious morons pining for some “glory days” of music where their favourite musicians stole all of their music from black people. Tracy fucking slays this, go back to listening to AC/DC
He plays some fantastic drum parts. His playing on Verigo is amazing and I still can't figure the drum part at the first few minutes of that song. If anyone can help me with please do
@@larkstonguesinaspic4814 what part do you want to learn? i'll transcribe it for you. send me an email.
Daniel in Deafheaven is the first time drums actually got my interest in any music
What is blud talking about lol
In the comments everybody seems to be against the drum style, but that's exactly what I want to see and hear as a metal drummer to evaluate the products for me. No Mike Portnoy overrated by everyone, or almost inhuman machines like Thomas Lang; and most of all, no fake reworked sound. The video hits the heart of drums with blasts and double bass. Besides, the setting is a great idea :D
I like how he does the traditional blast with one foot. Really raw and powerful!
This does him no justice you have to hear the song its called come back
It is come back
If you didn’t realize this was from “Come Back”, you need help. This was great!!!
Dan is one of my favourite drummers as of late. He plays so tight but get that groove in the playing too!
Awesome. Watching him live is a mouth opener :-)
A real heads-turner!
Seeing them last year and April was a life changing moment. Dan was so fucking smooth live, the dexterity was off the fucking charts. The whole band was just... awesome. Can't wait to see them again at the 9:30 Club with Inter Arma in a couple months.
Those heads sound awesome!!! Evans for life🔥🥁🤘
Good drummer good drum heads especially the onyx one of my favorites
Dope!
Evans is cool. So is Daniel!
Nice!
Really silly marketing for one of the best drummers in the world right now. Come on evans marketing team. An interview and play through with Dan in the studio would have been great
cant wait to see deafheaven and Dan play live in vancouver
They're bulletproof live. He's an absolute unit.
This comment didn't age well. Show was cancelled due to Covid
Should've played a more dynamic song where he can show what he is capable of doing like From the kettle onto the coil or Honeycomb
He made a great performance as always though
🤘
I'm just wondering where the heck are the mics that are capturing the cymbals.
Daniel Tracy is a beast, i feel so happy for him being endorsed by evans!!!!
Evans4Life
Last time I was this early......
We broke up..
his cymbal work is peak
The Machine
You rang? - E.V.A.N.
invite Philipe Nogueira from the band Scalene
do an episode where the drummer, upon finishing the total meltdown of the computer, does a complete smash up of the kit, the computer, the room, and leaves a smoking crater.....
maybe the drummer brings a little lighter fluid into the gig... maybe the drummer sets some fires?........ maybe puts an end to the maddness...
We do not condone violence against computers. - E.V.A.N.
Should have gotten Lord Marco
Oh wait
Dan drums like what a software drum sim seeks to emulate. This style can be very off putting to some at first exposure, believe me though he does some of the best in this style. Listen to the song Luna by Deafheaven.
Black brick
Fraquissimo. ..
Blackmetal drummer play like that.
Who want play like that need extra stamina
Wow 32nd notes...
Blast beats on a jazz kit? 🤔
Go ahed, make my day, Punk :)
Yeah... I don't really care for this. I recognise that the speed is impressive, but after having watched the Dave Lombardo and Eloy Casagrande videos, this just doesn't do it for me. More power to him, though. Clearly Mr. Tracy has some massively impressive stamina and timing (and who cares what I think... I mean, other than me?). Power on, you blast-beating monster.
watch live performances of him with deafheaven
Eloy is great
PLEASE!!! JAY WEINBERG!!!
They already did. Its under "set the tone"
@@cadelewis2663 I kinda meant he should be in this series lol
Parece um Monza dando partida 6 da manhã...
Bring Danny Carey. You will not regret it.
They won't be able to handle the power in person....
There's literally a million drummers as good as him begging y'all to listen to other musicians
@@waveemann8857 I think it's okay to have a favorite. Don't you? And it's not like we only listen to his music.
I've never seen a professional drummer look so stiff whilst playing
I know you said 'looks like' but he wouldn't be able to play that fast if he was actually stiff (plus you can tell from his hand technique that he isn't). Get what you mean though
that’s how blast beats work
You try playing that. Try playing a quarter of that, and see how "loose" you feel
In contrast to what majority of competent people are saying here, I enjoyed this guy playing. I enjoyed him so much that having ignored extreme metal for the past 15 years -because let’s be honest, that shit is boring as hell - I now think I might give another chance to black, death, post-whatever metal kids are listening to these days.
.... ???
lmao this intro is cringe
i love deafheaven and have played metal as a drummer but this is perhaps the worst representation of metal drumming ever. this is the sort of shit which people can just say 'pssshhh no dynamics, its all just flashy speed'
This is not metal drumming, this is black metal drumming. Deafheaven may have combined the genre with shoegaze, but elements like this drummer keep it rooted in its origins. Black metal fans are so finicky about what they accept, any deviation from the norm is discarded by them. This band is often outcasted by fans for things as petty as not "looking the part", another one of the bands I enjoy (Carach Angren) is outcasted because they don't play blast beats often enough, have clean vocals, and have breakdowns. Some metal fans would even be upset if he used two feet instead of one for those blast beats. It's silly, I know. This genre is not rooted in dynamics, but aggression. I don't personally know this drummer or much about him, he might not care about any of this or about the black metal side of his fanbase, but it is clear he is coming to this genre with respect for it and playing it the way it is traditionally played.
The genre has some great drummers (including Daniel Tracy) if you know what you're looking for. For a video of my favorite black metal drummer, check out ua-cam.com/video/ldFk6_0AdgI/v-deo.html
@@NsiderCustomrobo13 is it like when the vampire kids on southpark took over the scene from the goth kids........ god that was a great episode...
If you love deafheaven you should know he played half of the song in that video. the other half is melodic and dynamic drumming. And the first half of the song is pure blast beats.
Mindnumbingly simple and boring
it's like a continuos single stroke roll on different surfaces. i understand that this series need to show a lot of different styles. But this i don't like.
This type of metal and drumming does nothing for me personally. Not throwing him in that category of strictly blasting the entire time but I mean he’s blasting half the video, the other half just double kicking with snare on 2 and 4. There’s a ton of skill and endurance that goes into blasting and some dudes can blaze and takes a lot of practice to get those speed techniques down smooth but this style of drumming in general just isn’t my cup of tea. I like metal but more so drummers like Matt garstka Matt halpern Chris turner, jay postpones, Eloy C, and drummers outside of the typical rock metal drummer. Definitly not hating on this guy never heard of him but those blast beats were clean and smooth. I just personally can’t get into to drumming or bands with mostly all blast beats the entire album. Anyone else feel the same way?
I think the problem is, he was playing to a song without the context of the music for us to listen to it kinda loses a lot of its purpose.
Siap bg jagooo
shame...
really? Compared to the great drummers they had put on, this is the worst, I didn't like anything.
Yheran Muñoz you like Blink-182 lmfao
Brennan Chaudhry Thank you good sir. Absolute trash comment and probably doesn’t listen to Deafheaven.
@@brennanchaudhry8925 well said lmao!!!
Boring!!!! He should have stayed sleeping! Lol
what was happening when he was on the floor???
.......well, nothing personal, but since mid-end of the 1980's, when "speed metal" starts in the underground, I asked myself how a drummer - an artist! - can focus hours after hours, days after days........for years!... working at the most primitive rhythm that instrument offers, just to say : I AM FAST!!!!!!! ;-) for me all this blast beat drummers sounds like an engine, or the Duracell rabbit on speed/cocain.......
from all of the videos from the series so far .this was the most boring..? meh..
OK i know its hardcore and difficult to play blast beat right and properly for 1: 20 sec's but..cmon
lame drummer, tons of better ones in the extreme genre, after E. Casagrande it's on the verge of shameful, he must be the nefew of mr somebody at d'addario's
frankly the song doesn't do him much justice for this setting. If you listen to their music it's really hard to call his drumming lame.
@@M1ndPr1s0n3r coming from the 90's extreme metal it's hard not to call deafheaven lame, almost unacceptable :D but that's what's good with music, they're free to do it - but we're free to comment as well
@@talujean5538 I mean so are you saying that you dont listen to anything more tame or less harsh than extreme metal? Is your gage for what is good just "is it's heavy as fuck and technical?" that's just a really narrow way to listen to music.
I despise metal purists
