I actually pulled the exhaust manifold and cleaned the passages. Mine turned out to be a combination of the passages being clogged in the head, manifold and pipe with carbon and the diverter valve being faulty. Use a hand vaccum pump on the valve to check if it holds vacuum. If not, replace it. There are little ports in the head at the exhaust ports for the air to be pumped in, be sure you get those too. The gasket's less than $10 and it takes about 2 hours.

Yes some cars need a lot more work . with most just time its possible to fix just like you did. Great work.

mine was completely packed with carbon. i took a coat hanger and was able to snake it into the exhaust manifold and started the car a few times to blow out the chunks. edit also used a lot of brake parts cleaner.

I'll have to try this over the weekend on my 01 SL1 with P0410 - i though i had to go thru more than that to remove tube since there is that metal bracket there by the valve. Thank you!

Thomas EXOVCDS sent me. I'm subbed to a lot of channels but I'll stop by when I can. I'm a DIY'er trying to learn more about diagnostics.

On this code is there a resistor value to keep the $ light off if you remove the air injection/sec air system?

My pipe was worse than the one you had on the video. I just have one question for you regarding the gaskets. Did you smooth out the ends of the pipe and the parts it attaches to. To make sure that the gaskets fit snug or is that not necessary? Also I had to buy new gaskets as these 4 were warped.justvwaitng to pick them up and then I'll be putting it back on and clearing codes. Then on to my last 3 codes with the EVAP. Then smog. Thanks a whole lot for this video. I was gonna follow the steps that Richpin said until your video which saved me a lot of time.
    Respectfully,

Hello. I hope you still see these even after few years! I did everything according to ristpins video, and everything works properly as well as I cleaned everything out very well. I also stuck wire down in the manifold and continued spraying a vigorous amount of brake clean in there as none of it came back out of the hole so I assume it went into whatever ports were in the manifold, but I am still getting this code! Now, I'm wondering if this is related to the po734 code I am getting which is causing my car to extend shifting into 4th with a bang or slip into it or not even going into it at all sometimes! But then I will shut the car off clear the codes and then it will run somewhat decently not shifting into 4th as bad as I just explained but nonetheless the issue still is there where it will hesitate going inton4th and then the check engine light to come on it'll start shifting messed up again. then I check the codes and I get both the 734 and 410. Now if they are not related sticking to just the code alone, what else could be causing this code as like I said everything is working properly and all ports are clean!? Thank you very much

I don't know if your cousin still has that car but I saw the other video where you said it was burning a lot of oil mine was doing the same but what I did was seafoam it and it stopped burning oil.

I now own the car and I'm in the middle of doing a timing/head gaskets job. I'll try the seafoam

In dealing with the oil consumption, Saturns are notorious for the oil control rings getting clogged up. Sea foam works well, and also transmission fluid because of its high detergent content. Substitute 1 quart of trans fluid at oil changes and top up with it in between. Using a pint or so of white kerosene just before the oil change works really well to remove sludge.

Make sure the coolant is circulating. Theres a return pipe going into the coolant tank. They can sometimes get clogged
