Thanks, your video helped on a 1999 Saturn SL. We bent the heat shield forward and used a two foot breaker bar. After soaking the threads in PB blaster, your 2 x 4 stabilizer hack was priceless!
Great I'm glad you got it done! It's always nice when it finally breaks free ! Lol👍
Instant sub, great intro. Great style my dude. Thanks for the help !
Thanks for watching
A lot of the parts are generally cheap on these old Saturn S series cars and the cars themselves are not real hard to work on that's why I love them...
Thanks man!
The 2nd O2 sensor under the car is a bitch to get out, I ended up having to put a jack under the socket with an extension and slowly raising it, finally budged after tons of heat. The problem is, you can't get the leverage you need without a lift, of course, most people don't have one.
Yeah they can be a nightmare. Some times you need heat and a breaker bar. Using the jack was a smart idea 👍
Damn that’s how you keep the car running , hopefully the slug won’t clog its artery and kill it ! I was cringing 😬 when you were loosening the o2 sensor , cause I was just replacing my cat on my 07 CRV and the freaking o2 socket rounded it off.. I tried heating it , vise grips etc. to no avail !! Just purchased a new o2 and cat ...it was time replace the cat anyway...I kept it cause I’m going to get that freaking sensor off one way or another 🤬
Thanks!
+K. T. You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Great work Bud, that was perfect. Thank you!
Thanks for watching
Nice.. If I'd had taken that rear O2 out I'd guarantee the threads in the Cat would have came out with it LOL
One Auto, that would be a nightmare lol luckily that's never happened to me before.
good job
DriveShaft Drew thank you, thanks for watching.
New sub, my daughter just got am 02 sl1 so im gonna be checking probably all the videos.
Old video but still great stuff
Thank you , i appreciate it. With maintenance these saturns go forever! 👍
Haha, the animation steps were great!
Dowie Farm thank you, thanks for watching .
Skip the WD-40, get some Thrust by Castle. Spray it on wait 30 minutes, it will come out really easy after that.
Good, helpful video. What size is your sensor socket? Thanks
Yup, that exhaust flange will buff right out! LOL
Thomas EXOVCDS a little bit of bondo will make make it look pretty again lol
What piece is that at the end of your socket
That's a fail prone area for 02 sensor if exhaust is shown rust it can destroy that pipe that's part of the cat, you obviously have a win there.
Thanks Bro. My mom has one of those cars. I c cleaned the Upstream but didn't even know there was a downstream, now I'm going to look at that one thanks dude that was really helpful seriously good looking out. Also after I cleaned the Upstream and when I put it back in now it's smoking is that normal? I don't know if you can answer me or not but thank you once again
Blast PB Penetrating is very good for loosing bolts, especially if to apply it like 1 day before. I removed with it Inner Tie Rod on Saturn without heating and I believe it was on Red Threadlocker (there were some red marks and it was done by the dealer a few years ago). Could you tell what are the Torque specifications for those O2 sensors, I plan to replace them on my car as well. And another question here: what downstream sensor did you use? I bought on Amazon "Oxygen Sensor 13444 Replacement for Buick Cadillac Chevrolet GMC Isuzu Downstream Upstream Oxygen Sensor Replace 234-4087, 21528, ES20002, SG277, AFS97, AFS123, 12578459, 12587214", but it seem too short, same length like upstream. I think downstream should be way longer, though it runs fm one side of Catalytic converter, around it to the connection of exhaust system (that part you didn't like how it looks, since rusted). Thank you for the great film.
I found on Internet:
A torque spec isn’t required for O2 sensors. Just tighten them enough so they can’t loosen up. Once the O2 sensors are replaced the Check Engine light will turn off automatically after a certain number of key cycles.
Reference:
Torque specs for O2 sensor install - Maintenance/Repairs ...
Still it would be good to know at least approximately, since in the film the author is using a breaker bar to tighten it.
Some PB blaster works wonders... Just saying.
A code P0037 came on our 2001 Saturn SL2, it is also for down stream O2 sensor (or its wiring system). The code came after we drove the car a bit w/"Oil Change Soon" light. The mileage was under 900 mi, but the previous oil change was like 1.5 years ago. Probably that is why that light came. I replaced oil of course and reset the light (without resetting it won't go away). But the code P0037 keeps coming back. Can someone tell if the down stream O2 sensor can be affected by old oil. Not sure if I need to replace that sensor, or maybe that code will go away, since it is a new oil there.
My gf has a 96 but u can hook it up to the code reader. Her check engine light is on. Already changed all fluids air and oil filters. I need help please
What does changing the fluids have to do with a check engine light?
@@themechanic6117
Her brother told her that
@@jamesbell518 find out what the codes are and go from there.
Her car to old to show the codes
What size/type socket is that your're using to remove the O2 sensors? I could not find it on your tools list on Amazon.
Usually a 22mm
Did you just replace both for good measure, or could you tell from the code which one it was?
Dowie Farm yes the p0137 was for the sensor under the car (downstream) . I changed the one in the engine bay because it was really cheap. Really it only needed the downstream sensor.
Did that repair help for the problem w/oil burning?
I sold the car soon after so I don't know but I doubt it. These cars just consume oil
@@themechanic6117 I see, thank you for the replay. I didn't notice our Saturn consume too much oil (maybe it is bcs we have SL2, not SL1), but 2009 Nissan Sentra does, not that much but does, so I thought it might be the issue of oxygen sensors. On Saturn I'm planning to change it, bcs it has 130K and it has an emission code (P0446). Hopefully it is not Intake Manifold gasket or better yet Charcoal Canister (you need to drop a gas tank on this car). Anyway I need to change those sensors on Saturn. Your film is maybe the only one, so detailed, on Downstream, on Upsteam is very good as well. It will be my instructional video. Thank you.
You're welcome and good luck
@@olenaerhardt7725 O2 sensors have nothing to do with why Saturns burn oil. Its actually because the pistons don’t have oil return holes behind the oil control ring on the pistons. This was due to the fact that engineers wanted to use the new 5w30 oil because its a thinner oil and thus easier to pump around the engine. But the viscosity level of the oil when hot was too low. The “fix” for that was to not use oil return holes. What happens is carbon builds up there instead of being “washed” down into the pan by the oil, and the ring becomes stuck and doesn’t press up against the cylinder wall.
@@sovietspy8260 underrated comment award, i bought a '02 saturn in 2017 with ~214k miles i currently have 303130 in 2022. no check engine light but the transmission is leaking and throwing a code for gear 3 fluid loss incorrect ratio, so I need to fix the mount and gaskets but the studs on the mount and the wretched transmission still work even though it's banging regularly
How much dose that sensor in the bottom, cost
Dont know.call your auto parts store
How do I maximize my safety when using a torch?
Dont aim it at things than can catch fire, have a fire extinguisher on hand .
huh..used oil?? new oil is not that expensive lol
Not expensive to you may not be "not expensive" to someone else. It burns/loses oil like crazy. Why waste money on new oil?
Hey is that the same place for a 98 Saturn sc2 it says my 02 sensor circuit slow response when I went to get my smog please help?!?!?!?
It should be in the same place..
When I have to deal with rusted up connectors, I always give them a good soaking with PB blaster first. Helps. Try it
I found that silicone spray works wonders for freeing connectors. Ever since i found this trick its what i use every time.works great 👍
hey bro hows the k24 build going?
Josh Denoto pretty good, I was stuck between taking the parts to the machine shop or buying more of the parts I need. I decided to keep buying parts so when I do get the machine work done it's full throttle forward. I'll have a video of the new parts I have soon.
The mech a nic nice i just bought the k tuned race spec billet shifter. i have a 95 eg with a k24 its alot of fun. i think im ready to go your route and beef the engine up

Josh Denoto I'm jealous about that shifter lol. I have a few ktuned parts coming in as well.i post my build also on Instagram
The mech a nic hey i bought the ktuned throttle cable but its to short for my car if you need one , i bought it a week ago , it comes with the billet bracket it was 70 bucks i believe , id take a loss obv .yeah the shifter is a work of art im still trying to figure out how i want to mount it. i think im going to put it on the tunnel bc its so cool looking and just get rid of the center console
