Ananda Shankar & His Orchestra - "An Audio-Visual Experience" [LIVE on Indian TV] (ca. 1978)

Indian sitarist Ananda Shankar directs his east-west fusion band on melodic group compositions composed through the 1970s. The group includes several members formerly from High Noon, a Calcutta band of college-aged musicians, including Cyrus Tata (guitar). Ananda, son of legendary Indian dancer Uday Shankar and nephew of the great Ravi Shankar, was one of the few Indian musicians to attempt a mixture of western music with Indian classical forms from the eastern perspective.
It's rather astonishing that this incredible live performance has survived to the modern day. I've tried to upgrade the audio on this recording from the original upload. Many thanks to the original uploader for this incredible set!

This is wonderful to see his collaborators and boy does he run a tight band….considering how many diverse elements - for heavens sake there is a Jaltarang in there…..everyone is bang on the beat. Thank you Maestro Ananda - that flautist - i think he stuck with Ananda in the early years and he was/is translucent in his playing. Namaste
