Thank you so much! I live in Italy and here there are few wj and almost all have the diesel engine. I ordered the shifter, the 242 J and the yoke online and than i followed your guide to install it. Thank you so much!
Great video, I'm swapping out a 247 to a 242, I found the light connector you mentioned but its too short, won't reach to the plug on the transfer case...I guess I can cut it off and solder longer wires so it will reach...
Hello, when I did mine, the donor jeep had the connecter harness on the tranfer case. It a premade jumper harness to just plug and play. I should have mentioned that.
I'm sorry to say the jeep was totaled years ago. A lady blew through a red light and hit me. Sorry for the late reply I was finally able to log back into my channel.
I have a 98 5.9 that I had 242 already put in , anyway the VIC reads incorrectly says it's in 4wd when it's in 2wd , any idea what they did wrong or didn't do? is there wires behind the VIC screen?
You are saying the 247 Yoke off the front will fit on a 242 ? You had no issues with the yoke/flange on the 242 shaft and slop or play ? Cause if you look at the 242 yoke you pulled off in this video it is not splined all the way thru in the rear and im told the 247 yoke is.
I inspected each front yoke when i had them both off and compared both side by side, both are identical with the splines and such, you can swap out these yokes with no issues.
I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L with the Quadra-Drive system with a bad transfer case. Was wanting to know if and what the difference in the T-case from an 00 to an 02 with 4.7L and Quadra-Drive is? I went to 2 different recycle yards and was told the T-Case from a 02 4.7L w/Quadra-Drive will NOT fit My 2000??
There is no difference except for the yolk for the front drive shaft. I just put an 04 transfer case in my 00 the junk yard said 99& 00 was one transfer case and 01 to 04 was the other transfer case. THEY ARE 100 PERCENT WRONG. You loosen the front drive shaft yolk nut. Take it off. Then switch it with yours and tighten the same nut. I did this last week
Ok, so get a donor 242 out of another wj, keep the rear drive shaft from my vehicle, take the slip yoke from the donor, then keep the v8 front slip yoke and get a donor double cardan front to replace my Rezeppa style front d/s. THen get the selec trac shifter assembly, hopefully from the same donor? That should be it correct? Oh and move the shifter bracket to the bottom, and hook up the selec trac light connector. Also....do you have any videos of you wheeling your wj? I've got a 2.5'' puck lift on 33x12.5's. TONS or rub, but the stance is mean!
Yes thats basically it, its pretty simple and straight forward, also one thing i missed in the video was how to remove the shift fork out of the 242, you can use a screw driver to pry it away from the case, use caution not to damage anything, I believe you need to have the 4wd shifter all the way up to do it not at the moment I dont have any wheeling videos but I will soon!
My 2002 wj Laredo came with the 4.7 V8 with the 242 J which is the 242 HD. Now looking for a pair if complete Veri-Lol axels then I’ll be much happier.
is replacing the front driveshaft necessary? from what i understand its same dimensions just a bad design right if so ill leave it till it wears out and save a few bucks for now
Very old comment, but all of the front shafts are the same. I did the swap in my '04, and kept the rzeppa shaft. I did need to use the 4 liter rear driveshaft, but it wasn't a bad swap at all
So, the Jeep is long gone now but I believe I had to swap the rear. The front driveshaft only needed the end to match whatever is on the t-case, but the rear was a different length. It doesn't hurt to swap the yoke and try it though. Good luck
I am wanting to switch to a selec trac tcase, what transfer case should I look for, sorry for asking new to this haha I currently have the quadtrac in my 94 zj 5.2 liter
justin aguirre 242j is LD, 242WJ is HD. If the tag is missing, LD has a rubber boots on the rear, hd has an aluminum tail cone. Side note, some V8 242's we're also tagged 242HD. If Dodge it will say 242dhd

Vincenzo glade I could help!
Thanks, thanks ! the best video I´ve seen So far about this swap. Saludos desde Baja , México.

Is the shifter u have taken out at 4:00 from the 247 with just the 4high and low
Yes correct
After three and half years how is it holding up? Please do a follow-up review.

@@jaws2167 did you ever have any issues before the wreck?
@@millerb32 I did not have any issues. Worked great

Where did you get the sticker for the shift paddern?
I bought it from a guy on ebay years and years ago and a temporary fix, but the shifter swap would be the safer way to go.
Awesome video, can't wait to do the swap on my 00 wj.
Famalee Man thanks tony lol

@@fake2822 life saver! I’ll be trying this soon, will update for anyone who goes looking.
Isn’t the 247 a better case? Y are people swapping it?
Did you use any silicone on the T-case to Trans mating surface?
shockracer nono did not, only reason to do that is if your doing watercrossings to prevent water from entering the transmission/tcase
jaws2167 ok, thanks.

242 I believe.
how can you tell when a 242 is a LD or HD? will it say it on the tcase red stamp?

David Sanchez i have NP242WJ but it has rubber boot, is it HD?
Thanks for the video!
is it wj limited or laredo se ?
Mine was a limited
What kind of tires are those?
Tory Nelson bf Goodrich mud terrain I believe 255 75 17
You can also use a 242hd. It’s already setup for a v8
I was expecting a J Series Engine Swap XD
