The only death metal band I know that can sprinkle a little black metal flavor in and make it sound amazing. Love at the gates! That swedish death metal sound never gets old to me .
I can sense from his vocals that Lindberg is getting older, but holy shit he still sounds so good - and even more the rest of the song, it's just a masterpiece. I love how they're going back to a slower and more melancholic/melodic sound
I feel for some bands, sometimes you try do something different and your fans will shit on you for changing a little your sound, but if you keep doing the same thing there still will be people criticizing you for not doing something different. I bet it must be tiring
@@josearias4114 I agree, there will always be someone who criticizes you, but I like to believe that the biggest part of the fanbase is honest enough to recognize when there is an idea, a research, behind a change in the sound, and appreciate the effort even if the result is a little far from the expectations
Fan since 1994 Terminal Spirit Disease. I have listened to this song a decent amount of times and it’s Beautiful and Solid. At 2:28 “Disintegration of our Masters, All of their Radiance and their Truths……” it Broke me when i read the Lyrics, it’s Fucking Flawlessly Perfect.Thank you for coming Back.
I may be the only one, but anyone else get some classic Silent Hill vibes from some of the riffs? I actually feel that way about a few songs on this album. Which is a fantastic thing.
how is this originality exactly, tell me? even if it is, that doesn't mean it's good. evolving for the sake of saying you're evolving is redundant. this new thing simply doesn't work for most of their fans, period.
@@balrogofmorgoth2653 I agree with you. This is experimenting and not originality. I am not saying it s bad or good. As a huge fan, Personally, I need time to understand what I am hearing.
Tomas is indeed right when he said that there are a lot more goodies in the album during the Spectre of Extinction. I was expecting that this would be more of someone imploding from the existential crisis. But no, they did that in SOTS, which is still a great album. Instead, this album feels like someone who fell in the despair eternal and is taking the time being immersed in it.
Although I have mixed feelings on it, I really appreciate that they didn't take the easy way and just copied their past work. This feels a bit fresh but true to them and the Swedish scene!
I love ATG. I know they can’t beat “Slaughter of the soul”. I personally need more time to know if I like what I hear or not. But nonetheless, it s great to see them experimenting on their music and sound.
@@Aenigmakil I meant "the slaughter of the soul" as an album. Not only that s their best album but also one of the best melodic death metal albums of all time.
EXPERIMENTAL, HEAVY, EFFICIENT HARMONIES! SO MUCH PROUD! AND THE ONLY BAND THAT TOOK COURAGE TO WRITE BASED ON LATINAMERICAN LITERATURE! THE TEXTS OF BORGES AND SABATO IN "AT WAR WITH REALITY"!
I would say that you are indeed in the minority, but it is a valid opinion. I listen to the post reunion stuff just as much as the old stuff. At The Gates just do not make bad albums, plain and simple. I have some true stand out favorite tracks amongst the newer album as well.
I'm with you on this dude. At War With Reality is just as good, if not better, than Slaughter of the Soul. I'm really digging whats coming from this album a lot too.
Well, apart from At War With Reality, they brought back may sounds that they've forgotten with SOTS, so I feel like I love both their oldest material and this. The only album I haven't truly enjoyed as the others is in fact AWWR, but I still liked it
Thomas Ligotti, 'The Conspiracy of the Human Race, a contrivance of horror' brought me here. I've been seeking out music inspired by his work. Wasn't disappointed.
It's called age. Like fine wine it changes with time and becomes something different all together. Better, more experienced, more emotional and it tells a different story than it did before.
My top favorite all time best are as follows : 1) Morgoth 2) Hypocrisy 4) Dismember 4) At The Gates 5) Obituary 6) Suffocation 7) Abysmal Sawn 8) The Black Dahlia Murder
That's my thought too. But for some reason they fit this sound really well, kinda "tortured" sounding in some way. But yes I agree. I don't know if this is a stylistic choice or if Tomas has been doing his style wrong for many years. To me it seems like he is trying to reach a tone that's out of his current range. If he would take a deeper tone I think it would've sounded better on it's own. But like I said. This style fits the music for some reason.

Nice to hear an old school band still experimenting with their sound, instead of becoming a "more of the same" band

Sometimes I feel that way about Dark Tranquillity.
They always had that vibe, even the sound and cover color scheme for Slaughter Of The Soul looks/feels like Silent Hill when everything goes dark.
I LOVE AT THE GATES!!!!

Intimate yet angry sound and feelings: loving this new ATG era so much.
Just WOW.
Amazing album
I no longer listen to metal generally. But some bands... I can't quit listening to them: At The Gates is one of them.
I'm enjoying a lot of these comeback albums of At the Gates, this will not be an exception.
Well done ATG. Hope to see you soon.
Melodic masters !
I know everyone wants Slaughter of the Soul 2 but imagine being a young fan: this is their 3rd album back and its very explorative! 👌
Honestly, I'm incredibly glad that they're not just rehashing SotS over and over again.
@@I_am_Jordan_K right? Change is good, same with the new Deafheaven & Carcass albums, can't wait for those two!

Slaughter is so good! Certainly not their best though. That's like saying Paranoid is the best Sabbath song or Sandman for Metallica.
I felt the same way until I heard the album in full on headphones. As a whole package, the album is great.
