The township was named after King Langalibalele Hadebe was serving house arrest by the British after he trialed at Roben Island. It was around 1860 when Pine a British Commander from PMB sentenced the AmaHlubi for refusing to let the AmaHlubi warriors to surrender the guns the had possessed by then.
