It really feels like Jimmy got what he deserved in this ending. He was able to negotiate the nicest prison sentence the federal judge has ever seen, he gives it up by redeeming himself in order to save Kim, the only person left alive he truly cared about. Then he was punished for his sins and sent to the terrible prison he mentioned he wanted to avoid. Yet despite that he still is treated like a celebrity by the other inmates. People who he really only decided to help after concluding how unempathetic and unfair the criminal justice system can be. In the end, despite being punished harshly for all of his crimes he was also rewarded for his good qualities.
Edit: Saved is a bad way to put it, more like validated.

If he took the plea and did his 7 years, then what? Would he have really changed? He would still have to run from the truth about Chuck, about Howard, about himself. Him admitting to his crimes was him liberating himself from the mask that he wore to hide his trauma and pain. Doing 7 years and then coming out as the same person who'd never change vs doing 80 years in prison and confessing to it all was his way of facing the truth and never running away from it again. He was tired of hiding again and again.

Yup yup man is gone and i'd imagine Kim using her legal expertise to shorten Jimmy's sentence (even though he was an acquaintance of Walter white and a con artist, he didn't kill anyone and probably will behave in prison too) along with the prisioners respecting him. Sure you can make really good friends in there but it felt so bad when your friends got released. It leaves you depressed and feeling lonely. If you have a girl it is guaranteed some other guy will be fking her in no time while you sit in prison not being able to do anything about it. If you have small kids they grow up so fast that even 5 or ten years changes them so much theyll be almost unrecognizable to you. Prison is sad and depressing. Most of the time you dont think about it but once in a while while youre laying in bed at night it hits you. And it hits other inmates too i could sometimes hear guys cry or see the hopelessness in inmates dead eyes who were there for life. Stay out of prison my friends its not worth it.

Better Call Saul is amazing at saying so much without any words.
-The way Kim's hands shake when holding the lighter up to Jimmy, showing that she's nervous and scared for how he's doing in prison, Jimmy holds her hands calmly letting her know he is at peace with himself.
    - The cigarette flame being the only thing that's in color once the show transitions to black and white symbolizing that their love has survived and hasn't gone anywhere.
    - Kim is dressed sharply again letting us know that along with volunteering at a law clinic she is at peace with herself after confessing to Cheryl and is going to re-enter legal work to some capacity.
    - Instead of shooting finger guns back at Jimmy, Kim's expression is one of deep longing, she wants so badly to take Jimmy with her away from the prison but can't. She's changed, and Jimmy's changed but their profound relationship and connection hasn't.
I don't think it's a depressing ending like so many people are claiming. The surface level details are very downbeat but ultimately Jimmy and Kim have atoned for their actions, have healed their souls and can now think about a better future.
Jimmy is doing basically the same job he was at cinnabon, only now without having to look over his shoulder since the other prisoners respect him, and now Kim is back in his life in some capacity.

I’m heartbroken. From Albuquerque and watched this final episode with tears rolling down my face. I grew up in the same neighborhood where much of the show was filmed. The house I grew up in is a 5 minute walk from the White residence. I can remember waking up for middle school and walking by the production crews as they prepared to shoot for the day. Then high school came around and I would drive by them each morning. The car wash where they filmed for Breaking Bad has been the same car wash my family has used for decades. The mall that takes place in BCS isn’t a mall in Omaha but a local mall that I used to work at. I’m 27 now and I guess all good things must come to an end. These two shows have been such a big part of my youth and my life as a whole and I’m so thankful to everyone who worked on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. You put us on the map and showed Albuqerque off the best way you knew how! Thank you. We’ll always be grateful to the cast and crew of both. Maybe I’m just nostalgic for the 2010s but I feel with this finale we are leaving a Golden Age of television behind. Rooting for everyone nominated for the show to clean up the upcoming Emmy’s.

I've seen a lot of people misunderstand and think he did it to save Kim. He can't help Kim at this point and he knows he can't. Once he found out she confessed after he goaded her in their phone call he knew what he had to do. He did it so she would care about him again, love him again. So even though they can't be together at least he knows she's out there somewhere, thinking about him. That means more to him than getting out after seven years and never seeing her again.

To those who don't realise it: In the final farewell, showing some uniforms throughout his career, a prison shirt comes last- but it says 'BCDC' not 'ADX Montrose' like we see in the final scenes. 'Bernalillo County Detention Center' is a lower-level Prison in New Mexico that Jimmy previously was sent when Chuck had him arrested...
Meaning, presumably for 'Good Behaviour', at some point, Jimmy is sent closer to home, and Kim...
Like SO many details and moments in this show, sadly 99% of people wouldn't see it the first time (myself included), but an absolutely perfect little ending touch that shows that Jimmy still managed to soften his sentence AND get presumably closer to Kim...

The finger guns at the end are so poignant. For Kim, it was a symbol of a descent in to hell for them both, since that's when they decided to ruin Howard. For Jimmy, a symbol of redemption for them both. Then, we get the wide shot with them apart, in separate prisons, but there's a wide open space between them.... a glimmer of hope. They are both starting to forgive themselves, Kim with her confession to Cheryl and the volunteer work, and Jimmy has finally accepted responsibility for everything he's ever done, even though it ensures his life imprisonment. I think they're both more free than they have been in a very long time. What a beautiful ending. Better than BB IMHO.

I don’t see it like that. To me, by doing this gesture, Jimmy reminds Kim that all the Howard scam was because of her. Just to make her realise that he’s doing prison for her too.
Having said that, in my opinion Jimmy manipulated Kim for her to suggest the idea to scam Howard badly. It’s all clearer when we rewatch the finale episode of season 5, or the last few episodes. He knew that Kim wouldn’t have accepted to be part of such a terrible scam, so the only way for him to convince her was to let her suggest the idea of the scam first. Really obvious to me. Jimmy has always manipulated all the people around him.
