The great thing about Succession is that you don't have to root for anyone, it's just not that kind of show. Every character is privileged, traumatized, and deeply flawed, but also complex, real and beautifully written.
I both hate all of them and also care deeply about all of them. They're just... so... fucked up. And you see these little glimmers of humanity in all of them, but just... can any of them possibly be redeemed? We have one more episode to find out. But really, no. Not at this point. Especially after election night :/
Please keep reacting to this show. The characters are deplorable, but the way they talk to each other is hilarious as fuck, and the photography is state of the art. We're now in the final season, and it's worth watching every episode to watch the actors evolve as characters, supported by great writing. I only started watching the show in February-- binge watching the first three seasons in anticipation of the fourth and final season, and it's been tremendously rewarding. All the friends I've told about it, and who watched the entirety of the show agree with me. There' only six more episodes left, and I can't look away.
My wife and I did the same thing. We caught up 5 days before the finale, which is about to air this Sunday, and I am going to be so unironically sad when it's over.
You guys called it with Tom and Shiv in my opinion. Shiv doesn't treat him great but he puts up with it because he wants something. The fun thing about this show is while everyone is terrible, they will crawl their way into your hearts lol.
I think its funny how they quickly got that while many fans of the show think tom is not a bad character just bc he’s so good at masking his narcissistic intentions
@@llbxq I think Tom is my favorite character, and I love watching him, but I also hate him the most, honestly. Even more than Roman (who is my second favorite character and who I hate second-most). He's a ladder-climber, an abuser, and a coward. He's got every nasty trait of all the siblings, combined into one broken shell of a man, and he sticks close to his own abuser just so he can have a chance to lick the boots of the megarich and maybe get a few crumbs of wealth and power. Election night encapsulated everything I hate about him and Roman. But also, wow, he is so well-written XD
I’m excited for you two to see how every storyline plays out, but based off the reactions you guys have to Tom in the first two episodes I am especially excited for you all to see how Tom and Gregs relationship develops. Tom is one of my top 3 favorite characters on this show, his character arc is genuinely great to watch.
Love how the initial reaction of the 3 siblings when faced with a crisis is to push each other away and come up with their own individual scheme as if it's a competition instead of coming together to solve the immediate problem. There is somehow no trust at all between them. Dysfunctional family dynamics at it's finest. Great nuanced writing and acting.
I'd never really thought about how much these characters change over the course of the show. Seeing this reaction really makes me wanna do a rewatch. This show is so fucking good
when i first watched the show i didn't fully appreciate how good the first 5 episodes are and i thought the show was overrated but on rewatch it's all sooo good and rewatching it with you while i'm currently watching s4 is even better! some episodes on the show are a great contrast in relation to others and 4x4( that just got out) is a perfect episode to compare this one to :)
Same thing happened to me! Tried to watch it twice but it bored me, never passed from episode 3, but when I gave it one last chance, I got hooked and now I can't believe I didn't like those first episodes, they're brilliant
kendall is my favourite, and as much as you'll hear people say how horrible they are, they all have their good and human sides too and i think you'll have sympathy for all of them over time.
Yo, I've just discovered you, while looking for someone to refresh my Succession memory with. What a thoroughly enjoyable reaction, girls, you're both very witty, quick to catch on and enthusiastic. I can imagine your friends like watching stuff with you. Very nice ^^
please please keep watching 😊it’s such an incredible show! the writing gets even better and the characters become more like able and grow on u! i used to be a kendall girlie but i love roman and i love love gerri! i subbed and can’t wait to see your reaction to episode 3 :)
This whole show is the game he wanted them to play for this 80th bday. They’re so rich that they’re playing a game with the media and rival companies. They’re so much richer than all that bs. His stroke episode 1 was probably the start of the whole game. Lmao
Man some of these early scenes hit different once you've seen the later episodes. And yeah, you're constantly going to be wondering whether people are genuine, and I think generally it's a mix. Pretty much everyone has issues handling and expressing their emotions and also they're all hungry for power, I'm not even sure if they know how much of their expressions of love and sympathy are genuine.
When I first started succession my friend gave me a "warning": EVERYONE in the show is terrible, and there are no heroes. Just enjoy them being awful, or else you could be disappointed. Tom is easily my favorite character, I just find his path very interesting. He's indeed weird but don't give up on him yet lmao
"I don't know who I'm rooting for" - that is my summary of this show. They're all terrible people and I'm rooting for all of them simultaneously somehow.
You can root for people but like keep in mind they are all horrible rich people so just chose the horrible rich person you like best. Also Connor has a different mother which ties into his distant from his siblings and his father
Connor is my favorite of the siblings but I’m biased because I too dated a prostitute for five years (on and off) and another for 3-4 years (on and off) in fairness one was a stripper and drug addict who I was just madly in love with but always knew didn’t love me and was trying to kill herself and mentally ill but the other was very much like Willa, we met at a nightclub but didn’t start talking until we bumped into each other taking the same college class, she was a model and cheerleader for the Cavs and had a full time job at a train company, she had also won some grant for young entrepreneurs but she was a call girl on the side to keep up with her expensive tastes. She made it a point to always be dressed well and be very prim and proper when out in public.
it's the best show on tv but these conversation based dramas are not for everyone. it's like if game of thrones was only the kings landing stuff with tyrion.
@Diegesis Perhaps I was being too pithy. I didn't mean to say it's bad. It's seeming temporal drag was simply the biggest impression it left me. The characters are a bit hard to latch onto so far, which makes it difficult to want to spend time in their world. Maybe, as you say, it's just not for me 🤷♂️
well my feeling is it dragged for you cause it wasn't engaging. i always found them feeling too short. like "that was it?!" cause I was so enraptured in the politics and strategies of the players.
I gave up on this show after season 2, don't waste your time it never punches through this average straight line it follows one episode is enough to get what this show is, WATCH BANSHEE you guys will love it
ahh, the innocence of these 2 in evaluating the characters in this show is adorable.
I laugghed when they called tom spineless lol
The great thing about Succession is that you don't have to root for anyone, it's just not that kind of show. Every character is privileged, traumatized, and deeply flawed, but also complex, real and beautifully written.
This is exactly it.
Bingo

I’m desperately looking for similar shows in writing quality close to the likes of succession, breaking bad etc. any recommendations?
@@knackfor2807- If you don’t mind pretentious dialogue, The Newsroom is pretty good (also on HBO).
"They're all a bunch of whiny babies. They're literally children."
Logan would agree with you.
They are not serious people

Logan was a whiny manchild too. None of them was serious.
I’m so happy to finally have more succession reaction

Tom is very weird at first, especially around Greg, but he is easily my favorite character and he really grows on you after a while.
You can't make a tomlette without breaking a few greggs.
He's gay for sure lol
Buckle up fucklehead
Man what I wouldnt give just to binge your guy's reactions to all the seasons
Currently going for a 24hr marathon

Also they're spot on about his treatment of Greg being a result of his treatment by the family

Connor has a different mother but Shiv, Roman, and Kendall have the same mother. Marcia is Logan's third wife.
The journey of Greg and Tom might just be the best thing about this show.
And it's crazy how it ends
NEVER saw it coming!!
Such an amazingly well written show. And the acting is pretty damn good as well.
