I have used straw hats in the summer for years. I recently had a Palm cowboy had shaped and fitted to me at Double H in Darby Montana. I find Palm to be much more durable and cooling.than straw. You can dunk it in water to cool you down with evaporation without losing shape. It just keeps getting better and better. I’m forever here forward sold on Palm cowboy hats.

They quit making straw hats decades ago, it became way too expensive. For a long time cowboy hats have been made from "shantung" which is a high quality paper that is more durable that straw. I do have a Resistol hat from the 1950s or 60s that is a Panama straw hat (which are hand weaved in Ecuador) and it is different and nice.

@@drwisdom1 interesting factoid… they feel like paper now that I know that. In addition to my Double H Palm, I have an Akubra Range Hemp that I wear to town and for bourbon hour on the veranda. That hat has worn well for a long time.

I've had problems with sunburning eyes and so I do like a more or less flat brim to try to cover them better.
In the 1970s, I wore a flat brimmed black hat with a mild telescope crown and a red, white, and blue hat band. Some people even though it was like Billy Jack's hat in the tv show even though his had an open crown and a blue and white hat band. As a result, I got called Billy Jack a lot.
I really liked this hat and am tempted to get another similar to it. I have looked at some of the pre-made gambler hats, but they are so cheap and flimsy that I don't like them so the next time I'm in the city where there is both a Cavender's and a Boot Barn and I'm tempted to have one shaped for me at one of the two stores. I think I still have that hat from the 70's somewhere, but I'm not sure where -- if I can find it, I may take it with me.
One thing, though, about having one shaped since I've never had one shaped before. Is the shaping part of the hat or is that extra? Do you tip the hat shaper? If so, how much is normal?

I collect vintage Stetson hats. Back in the 1960s styles changed such that when you see a 1960s hat you say it doesn't look as good but it has that 1960ish look. Similarly, today's trend is to have a very flat and wide front of the brim which then turns up aggressively with a sharp bend. In the old days hats were never creased that way and I don't find that style appealing. I prefer that the brim forms a smooth tasteful curve rather than have straight and sharp edges. I suspect that in ten years hats will return to traditional non-aggressive creasing and we will look back at the current style as early 2000s.

I am back after watching BIG AL😊, my heart was bounding the whole time seeing those beautiful cowboy hats😍😍😍😍😍 ooooh my gosh😂.
By luck and by chance I got a hat {5x} made in Columbia, from a colleague of mine who's aunt lives in AMERICA sent me a hat which was too tight to wear😂 so I had to remove the leather inside the hat and steam it with my rice cooker 😂 and shape myself after watching UA-cam, and when I asked my colleague for another hat he said there was no chance since he didn't want to trouble his aunt!!!!! Please watch my channel you will see me wearing that troublesome hat😂. Love watching this video 💖💖💖

I like the look of a cattleman's crease but I find that in most hats the center crease hits the top of my head and prevents it from sitting correctly on my head. What adjustment or different crease choice can I make to help me have the look I liike?

Because I have such a small head {{ compact intelligence }} I had a hard time finding a good hat in my size. {Beaver} I have had that hat for decades, you get what you pay for! Question: I would like to know if it can be stretched out just a bit. It gets just a might tight when the weather gets warm. Just a touch but I would like it loosened up a bit?
