You make a point here that so many people don't point out. "The people who cry over manuals may not be the ones necessarily buying it; those are can buy it might be able to appreciate the PDK." Automakers do not care if 16 year olds screaming in UA-cam comments want manuals. They care about the sales numbers, and clearly the DCT transmission super/hypercars are selling the most! That being said, I am glad the manual is an option on the GT3, and I imagine it's an amazing driving experience, great video!
It’s sad that the latest generation of BMW M cars aren’t coming with DCTs anymore. Everyone is saying the ZF shifts just as fast but I don’t buy it. If you watch someone flick a paddle on, say, an X3 M, it takes about half a second to shift, but DCT was milliseconds. Additionally, torque converters eat up significant power before it even gets to the wheels. Sad!
great review man. well done. ya nailed it in a nutshell. i stumbled upon this car in a manual on the showroom floor at a Porsche dealership a few mo ago, brand new, with no markup. none. knew it was a rare chance to snag one without a 1-2 y wait list, and without a markup. traded two cars, and bought it. greatest car decision of my life.

I finally drove one in manual and it is like a jet on the track (don't expect comfort any more than a rollercoaster), now if I can only drive the newest Viper GTS I would be happy.
One of the best looking Porsche's ever in my opinion and I usually don't like all black on proper cars - I'd usually go for Miami blue, White , or Porsche's amazing meteor grey metallic on the car of my dreams. Great review Eddie!
5:14 Everyone is entitled to have an opinion but I've been looking through dozens of GT3 Touring photos and still can't see how anyone could possibly say that it looks unbalanced without the wing. I can understand people saying the E92 M3s and M4s look like they lean forward too much but I won't say the same for the 991 GT3 without a wing. The GT3 Touring looks like a slightly muscular Carrera thats been lowered. If it looks unbalanced to some because it has its vents at the back, you can spec the GT3 Touring in a dark colour and 'hide' its vents.
+SJW Maniac Its a shame that EddieX won't reply to my comment. I totally agree with you sir of the GT3 Touring being the sleeper version of the GT3 range! Its like the definition of 'Stealth-Wealth' - it has the incredible masterpiece of the 9000rpm 125hp per litre 9A1 engine from the 911 RSR race car, but doesn't have the "look at me, i'm really fast" with its rear wing. Me personally, it would be perfect in Paint-to-sample 'Irish Green' colour and Manthey Racing Magnesium Wheels - except Porsche now stopped making the 'regular' GT3s and only focus on GT2 RS and GT3 RS :/ Greetings from UK (+ Japan) hahaha
On a racetrack, or on your trailer on the way to a racetrack, the GT3 with a wing looks awesome, but as a street car the Touring is the business. Plus, if you get a manual it should be as a Touring. PDK and wing is for the track.
Great video Eddie and I am jealous! I've ridden in a 2017 GT3 with a PDK but that manual looks so much fun! I agree, excellent car all around and unequaled quality and daily drivability. Hi Eddie. Great video. Just a quick correction.... You mentioned that the sport bottom activates the rev matching and no lift shift, which what most people and even GT3 owners think, but it only activates the rev matching. The no lift shift is active all the time and you don’t need to push the sport bottom to engage it. It is so addictive and helps you upshift perfectly near or at red line without the danger of hitting the rev limiter as the rpm’s and throttle is held electronically as soon as you depress the clutch . Again great video. Keep up the good work... Mark Qandil

good video - I appreciated your self evidence re: the rev ranges for the GT3 RS and GT3 difference in regards to street driving. I found it amusing about the rev matching, however, considering how few manual transmission drivers know how to heel/toe and/or rev match I can see that as being a safety feature for the Porsche itself. though for me, I'd have it turned off perpetually, especially as I heel/toe and rev match as a normal habit when driving any manual transmission vehicle. good video!
maybe I need more practice, but heel toe is hard for me on the street unless im hitting the brakes pretty hard. Normal rev-matching is fine. It is also just fun to play with the active rev matching since it works so perfectly! Definitely nice that you can turn it off tho
EddieX I’ve been driving manual transmission for over 35 yrs. i learned and tested on a 4-speed mgb back in those days. i in fact have never owned or driven an automatic and each time I drive paddles I find it annoyingly boring. The connection with the vehicle is simply not there for me :(
oddly enough, the wing is what makes me love the gt3. i use to hate the 911’s look till i saw the newer gt3’s and realized that a wing is what was really missing. huge gt3 and turbo s fan now

Great video. Agree with your comment regarding the touring looking unbalanced without the wing. I feel like with the touring, they needed to put a different (more sedate) front bumper on it - similar to the Carrera - to balance the understated look.

It's true. The GT3 doesn't turn heads unless someone really knows cars. But that's actually not a bad thing, depending on the owner. Maybe someone doesn't want all the attention a 720S or Huracan brings.
Question. Your own money on the line. 991.1 PDK or stretch up to a 991.2. Manual or PDK? With 991.1’s selling for 110k and 991.2 going for about 35-40k more. Worth the jump seeing as you’ve driven all of them!
For normal daily driving, R8. For track work and pure backroads fun I would take the GT3. The R8 is a more exotic car to me, which I would prefer for just typical exotic car things, but If I am taking a car on the track, itll be the GT3
I thought your Boss had a manual? Why is it such a revelation that a manual shift is a more engaging driving experience? I would always choose a stick over an automatic, which are too much like a video game - takes a minimum amount of skill to drive quickly with an auto IMO, especially drag racing.
Offering the manual as a "no cost option" is kind of bullsh*t. Manuals have always been standard equipment, but leave it to Porsche, the king of absurdly priced options, to effectively charge you the same price as a PDK for one. Clearly, I'm glad they're again offering the GT3 with a manual because it's true that few people actually buy them, but make no mistake, they are definitely gouging you for it.
great review but it is missing the engine noise. I know it's only for review so you have to be cautious with a car that is not yours but come on man..you could have floor it a little more than just 1st, 2nd gear...

I think depending on the angle it can look unbalanced. IMO the 911R looked way better, the new front bumper changed everything

I have owned two GT3s with manuals (an 05 and a 10). Now have a PDK in a 991. I prefer the PDK with that particular engine.
