Great cartridge and beautiful rifle. A friend of mine received a model 700 in 6MM Rem as part of the proceeds from selling a horse. Neither of us had much experience with the cartridge, but it has proved to be a great choice for pronghorn.
Thanks for your comments! 6mm Remington is one of those older and unappreciated cartridges. Once you've owned a rifle in this caliber, then you know how great it truly is.
My first big game rifle was a 6mm Remington. It was a model 600 Remington which was pretty new back then. I harvested many deer and a number of elk with it. It was a tack driver with the reloads I used in it but the one problem I had with it was the capillary damage it did to the animals I shot with it. No other rifle I own does the same amount of damage as that 6mm. Even my magnum rifles cause less damage but the 6mm is accurate enough to place shots quite well. It has been handed to my son now.
Thanks for your comments! You're right about the accuracy of the 6mm Rem. Mine had a custom pencil barrel which heated up pretty fast, shot placement was pretty important.
Stop using cheap lead core bullets in the 6 mm will stop the awful damage you are seeing. I own a Rem 722 and an AR 10 I've chambered in 6 mm - 284 win which the match to this is the 6mm-06 so velocities are extreme so using the Barns TSX 95 grain bullets are the only bullets not blowing up when hitting animals.. With modern copper expanding bullets in many brands no one should be using cheap led bomb lead core bullets these days for hunting.
@@thecalibercorner9614 all 6 mm rifles will kill faster when using the Barns TSX bullets because lead core bullets either blow up or the loss of lead is so extreme the weight of the bullet is lost which is the driving force of the bullet. I am shooting 2 rifles a Rem 722 and an AR 10 I've chambered in 6mm - 284 win that drives 95 grain Barns TSX bullets to 3900 Feet per second so never do I use total crap lead core bullets of any kind on game animals. Shooting 80 grain Barns TSX from the 6mm-284 gets speed of 4100 FPS. / And 58 grain bullets do 5000 FPS from the AR 10 26 inch Pac Nor barrel.
Great round, I have two 244/6mm rem in 788 remington and one 244 Ackley Improved, a great improvement on an already great round. Thanks for shedding light on a great round that never gained the popularity it should have.
@@thecalibercorner9614 I built mine for coyotes on the flat southern Saskatchewan prairies, pronghorn and mule deer. A 90 gr sierra tipped game king at 3550 FPS is easily achieved or a 105 gr berger at 3350 Fps from a 26" 1:8 twist. Makes one's wind judging ability seem much better than it really is.
@@averyabood6155 Sounds like a great outfit. I can imagine you are having great success, especially with those 105gr Berger bullets. I use those in my 6mm Norma BR. I also like the 105gr Barnes Matchburners.
@@davidhayes7596 furthest coyote has been 565 yards, and alot of mule deer and whitetail have fallen on the spot. It's a great underrated cartridge. Too much fun.
I built a 6mm REM 700 last year with an old 270LA. 26" Krieger barrel, HS Precision stock, shooting 105g Berger VLD over 40.0g of H4350 at a COL of 3.076". 0.25MOA - love the cartridge.
Good video . I hear the 25-06 Remington is really fine for whitetail. How is it that the .244 falls prey to the .243 over the rate of twist. The 6mm and the 25-06 are overlooked and both are better on whitetail the 243. The 243 is loved by many. All that really matters is bullet construction and shot placement. Oh yeah , don't forget rate of twist.
Thank you Fine folks for another pleasant and very informative production. Very nice rifle, I bet in a scenario like that one you'd pick up 50+ fps per inch of longer barrel.... At the top end of what would be expected in velocity gains I mean.
Thank-you for your kind and encouraging comments! Yes, there would be a gain in fps with the longer barrel for sure. The longer barrel also reduces the noise factor as well, so that's a bonus.
Nice rifle. The 6mm Remington is an interesting cartridge. I am thinking about rechambering a rifle to 6mm Remington. I have a lot of .270 Win brass I could convert.
Thanks for the comments! Very nice cartridge. If you can get your hands on some 7x57 mauser or 257 Roberts, they're already a smaller neck size and may be less work for you.
I never realized the 244 abd 6mm were the same. I have a model 600 in 243. All original accept for a Jard trigger set down to 1 1/4 pounds. I load 90, 70, and 55 grain ballistic tips for it along with 60 grain Seirra HPs. It’s an excellent little lightweight predator walking rifle.
in my 26” barrel handloads are around 4250 fps! In the 22” barrel they around a 100 fps slower. It’s a coyote lazer. Flatter than a 22-250 with 40 grain loads.
I just rebuild a Remi 660 in 6mm Remington , new stock, new Lothar Walther 26" Barell with 9" twist, is a game changer subsub MOA, with 105 grn Sierra HPBT, don´t need any Creedmore stuff, out to 1500m.

Thanks for your comments! For one reason or another a certain cartridge will catch on and not another. Speaking of the 264, it's a cartridge that always intrigued me, but I never owned one...yet.
I shoot a 244 rem (6mm rem) on a rem 700 with 14 twist 3 groove benchmark barrel. 53 grains of H380 under a 58 grain vmax at 4200. Makes a mess out of groundhogs and whitetail
First of all, thanks for watching my video! Yes, I am pretty happy with the wood in this particular rifle. I'm fairly sure that all the factory 600 & 660 Remingtons were short actions, which coincidentally, shared the same action with the XP pistol. The Remington 700 factory models for this cartridge were also all in short actions. You're right that the case is teetering on the edge of being either short or long action. If you're shooting the longer heavier bullets of today, the short action could be an issue. Good observation and thanks for the comment!
The 6mm rem Is my favorite I just wish I could get a new rifle in it I'm a hard use man and only have 3 safe queen's that see the light of day once a year and my 6mm is one of those
