    I was never that into podcasts until I was shown my personal favourite podcast in the world: Hey Riddle Riddle. It's three professional improvisor friends doing riddles together but it quickly devolves into dumb jokes and insane improv scenes. It's genuinely so so funny and really sweet at times, and you can really feel the friendship the hosts have together. Plus the voice actor for Korra from the Legend of Korra is a guest on it all the time. If you're looking for something to make you laugh until you cry, this is it. If anyone has a recommendation for a similarly funny and chaotic podcast, please let me know

    I made a podcast because I struggle writing scripts for certain topics and my lizard brain couldn't just let it go so I made a podcast for just talking about those subjects. It takes about 45mins, I cut out the coughs and extended periods of silence and boom. It's done. Also my skills of talking off the cuff have improved and now my inflections on scripted content has improved as well. Sure it doesn't get the views, but I figured it would fun to do and it does.

    I worry that podcasts are another symptom of the loneliness epidemic.* People getting to pretend for a while that they are casually chatting with some friends; A little respite before returning to the despair of our present existence.
    *Always sounds so bloody melodramatic to say/type, but then humans do have a tendency to fall apart and ultimately die without social interaction so it is appropriate.

They were just having fun, making something just for the other 9 people they played with and it grew into one of the biggest podcasts in the genre. I think it's BECAUSE they do it for the love of the art that it became so successful.

And getting to hear cast and crew, even crew who are in more interesting and unique roles than just the usual "writer, director, producer" stuff and it was also extremely entertaining as well as informative. And they just did it because they thought people would be interested no ads or sponsorships in them either. Just so cool. Once upon a time, my old D&D group made an effort to record a podcast for the campaign I was DMing. The many many problems we ran into included:
    1) this was haphazardly suggested by a couple people who listened to other D&D podcasts and had dreams of grandeur that we could handle producing our own content, despite none of us ever having tackled such a project before;
    2) none of us are a paid production crew who can edit down hours of talking into a digestible format, especially me, since I think I accidentally volunteered to handle that aspect myself due to it being my campaign;
    3) we were in the middle of the campaign, which was already a kinda bad one at that point because it was my first stab at it after having a looseish concept of how the game should work, and it was gonna be way, way too much work to summarize stuff that had happened up to that point;
    4) there were too many people at that table because I was too nice to limit the players to an amount I could handle, thereby making it hard to distinguish who was who and who was doing what. It started with 5 players of varying degrees of game familiarity which would go on to be 6 and then 7;
    5) that first recorded session would've been really boring to listen to, save for the parts where I am clearly challenging one of my players for obviously fudging rolls (I'm convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that he did this all the fucking time before and after this callout, and his bullshit character sheet held so many weird surprises that he'd spring at me out of nowhere, but that's way beyond the point).
    I think it was a small mercy that the audio file completely fucked up somehow, where every few minutes it would skip over itself and whatever was said was lost in said skips. The file was scrapped and the idea was permanently shelved. I think my view on podcasts - especially D&D ones that I never bothered to listen to before or after this - soured greatly because of this.
    Anyway thank you for coming to my TedTalk on: "Repressed Memories About That Shitty Campaign I Did."

    As someone who started a podcast (and ran it for a couple years), the biggest impetus came from COVID locking everyone in their homes with nothing to do but talk to each other for the sake of sanity. Also, nowadays it's incredibly easy to get started. Any standalone mic and a computer is enough to start making podcasts. Editing isn't difficult (or even necessary sometimes) if you're doing audio only, and for $18 a month you can put your audio file onto a website that then posts it to every single podcast app and website in existence.
    It was/is easy to do and an easy way to talk to friends when we couldn't hang out in person much/at all.

    a friend and I wanted to start a podcast not to gain any fame but to keep up with each other after we just graduated from college. We were both art history majors and loved the discussions we had in class, so we planned some scripts and are probably going to make a podcast! idk just a fun little project to stay connected to each other and topics we might not get to focus on at work :) i do agree its oversaturated but i think it could be a great tool to just chat about your interests if your interests aren't misogynisitic!!

    I think for many comedians and UA-camrs, a big draw is the consistency. When you're at home by yourself and you're in a creative drought, you don't want to make a video because you worry it's not gonna be good. A podcast is something where you just gotta get up in the morning, go to the studio, make some jokes about material that your producer prepared for you ahead of time, and then it gets published no matter how funny you were. It's sustainable.

    I love podcasts and have an idea for a relatively short historical podcast, why haven't I started it?
    1. Self conscious about my voice. I know everyone says that but it's still bad.
    2. I don't have someone I'm comfortable with talking to for an hour about an extremely niche topic, or anyone in general.
    3. The research. I'm well versed in history but this podcast would require a lot of in depth research and essay writing.
    4. Recording and editing.

    Honestly as someone who has been around a lot of song writers lately that was a great comparison. It's interesting with some writers you can tell they just try to do it for the money and most of those people never seem to go far but the people that are actually passionate about the craft still help make great music. One person might have the great voice and the other person might just be great at the writing aspect so overall if its a real passion project between people can be great but money always seems to muddy things up.

    I started an audio fiction podcast in part because it removes the pressure to add a video element that's present with talk podcasts. Plus, while that space is *crowded* it's not as ridiculously *overcrowded* as the talk podcast space. The low barrier of entry you mentioned for talk podcasts is present there, too; if I wanted to produce my scripts as a film or TV series - even a web series on UA-cam - I'd have to either sell it to a studio or produce it myself, which is stupidly expensive in comparison; you can legit do an audio fiction piece for free (though I don't do it that way), you cannot do that with a self-produced film/tv/web series.
    (also yes yes yes there are SO MANY good mics out there that there's no reason to overpay for a Yeti my goodness)

    I use a Blue Yeti, but I also run my audio through Audition. Seems to be pretty good after that. I think if you know what you're doing in Audition, you can make some of the sh!!tiest vocals sound decent and of course you might need some extra filters bought through Waves. Which is something you might need regardless because they can be useful for non-vocals too. You might not be able to fix everything but you should be able to fix most so long as the audio came from something like those wired earbuds from Apple that had a mic on the line.

He is very engaging, his co-hosts are different, and the movies he covers are vastly different on each podcast so each podcast does feel like it's own thing but that is a lot of podcasts to run on a weekly basis.
