... you guys are doing great! You are just not lazy as other people...this is your secret! And you are not losing any of your time. That is so right! You are well organized and trying to spend your time wisely. Good job! God bless you guys.
This advice works. I have severe athritis and felt over whelmed by the thought of cleaning the house. I took your advice and broke each job down to 5 min. Increments and now enjoy a clean house. Thank you.
Great advice! I have gotten into the habit of doing dishes while I'm cooking dinner. I'm already in the kitchen and just waiting for things to boil or whatever, so why not.
Owning less stuff helps. The more stuff you own the more stuff owns you. If you work 10 hour days and have an hours commute one way, people need to make sure other family members are helping keep the household running smoothly.
THank you SO much, ladies!! I have FM/CFS as well and was raised in a severe hoarding home. Over the last ten years, with extensive viewing of channels like yours, I am finally, finally achieving the lovely, clean, organized home I always longed for, and hated myself for not being able to attain before. Still working at it, and also have an ongoing bag for the thrift store. :) Instructional and kind vids like yours let me know that not everyone came out of the womb knowing how to keep a tidy home, and others struggle...but develop habits and tricks to get it all done. Thank you, ladies! God bless, M from Kingston, Ontario, Canada
A tip we learned once in a women's Bible study was while you're watching a movie or TV program organize a drawer bring the drawer with you and organizer while you are watching TV. I've done that several times and through a movie you can get several drawers done... you are so right we think about the project and are thinking takes so much more time than actually getting it done period wisdom you girls have
I needed to hear this . I have been overwhelmed by this house. So that means nothing is getting done. I can do 5 minutes at a time and I am so happy you made this video, thanks!
You are so right about that! I've never given myself permission to only clean one small space at a time - my dining room table is a disaster with sewing stuff. It's been an all or nothing task for me. I'm going to do what Tawra and Jill said to do - if I can only clean 6 inches at a time that's what I'll do. Even if it takes 2 weeks, it's better then no progress at all.
I have been following clutterbug and I completely decluttered my kitchen. I love your 5 minute rule that works better than 15 minutes. I injured my tailbone over christmas so the 15 minute wasn't working. That being said since my kitchen is clutter free most of the time. Then before I have to leave to get my husband from work I do a quick clean that takes 10 minutes maybe and when he comes home he doesn't have to do anything to help. I love this feeling. I have more to clean I use to be a packrat now I clean and throw away at the same time.
Good video. I do your 5 minute clean up whenever I go into the sewing room. It's the "catch all" room too. I have to declutter, or clean for 5 minutes before I allow myself to get onto my sewing project. Thanks for sharing!!
Lori Sanford Exactly!! I always tell my kids, don't think to much about it, just Start somewhere. And don't look at the whole project just one small area at a time 😀
Your mom's quote is wonderful! My grandmother used to say, "Well begun is half done." I think of it often when I need inspiration to just get moving on a chore.
Setting a timer for each task/room helps me to get things done so quick that I’m amazed. It pushes me to get things done without and interruptions. Then I wonder, why haven’t I done it before!
I followed the Side Tracked Sisters years ago and these tips really worked then! Forgiving yourself and just getting on w. It really helps! I used to set a timer and just race around for those few minutes, not thinking just doing! I'm far from perfect but I sure don't have the mess I once had!
Oh I just discovered your channel, and I'm so glad that I have. I have Multiple Sclerosis, so I'm *very* fatigued. I'm a SAHM with two young children. I've been watching these other "Mommy Cleaning/Organizing/Lifestyle" channels, and although their are some nice tips, but HOLY COW they have the energy of Olympic gold medal winners 🤦♀️. You two are inspiring 🥰
Tawra and Jill, You two are such a Blessing and give such good, common sense advice, I love my Dining on a Dime Cookbook, (Made the Honey Chicken and my son loved it! So did I, and so simple to make).....also just purchased Jill's Penny Pinching Mama book and find it so valuable in everyday life and many funny bits in there too.......
Your comment on another video - it was perfect for me. Carry something out when you leave the room... I have started to do that - it makes a huge difference! For the kitchen, I fill up the dish pan with clean soapy water every morning then put the dishes in there as I use them, then when I'm waiting for the microwave or the toaster, I put the dishes in the dishwasher, no pre-rinsing necessary. I've only recently started the '5 minute clean' time and I like it. No beating myself up when I have to stop, I just stop and go back to it later. I even vacuum that way now, when my back starts to hurt, I stop. Altho, I finally got a cordless vacuum so I can use my rolling chair to vacuum since I have mobility issues. So far, so good, I'm actually seeing the improvement. These cleaning hints really work for people who have health issues. .
I have never been diagnosed, but I just don't have the stamina to clean continuously. I clean much the way you describe. I love it when I have a whole day to do it because then I don't have to worry about getting ready and going out. Yesterday was one of those days. I cleaned a few minutes, then rested all day long and my house looks great! Meanwhile, I just got the copy of DOAD I ordered and I am so jealous!! I ordered it for my niece who turns 18 in March and this copy has SO MUCH MORE in it than my 2004 copy! :)
I have four children and haven't had a dishwasher since my oldest was a toddler we lived in a mobile home. For the last 33 plus years I've always done them by hand. I used to be better about making sure I never went to bed with dirty dishes in my sink although the last few years I have kind of relaxed on that. My dishes get done everyday I have fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, hypothyroidism and carpal tunnel. I am do down the road to have a knee replacement. Years ago when I put stress on me to have everything perfect and get it all done that did not make me a fun happy camper I think I probably put stress on my family. Now it's take care of me I spend more quality time with my family and I get done what I can get done. I even let go of my huge flower garden. Most of the many years I did my four children by myself had expose that lived in the wilderness I'll say. But I'm happier now as I learned to Pace things. My bed gets made every day maybe not all the pretty pillows on it and I also few years ago let go of a lot of stuff on my walls and it made my life better it's just more peaceful I don't have as much to dust anymore either. I'll just say my kids like the way our house is now better and they like their mom as well. Not saying they didn't like her love me before but they see me more peace. You're so right about the many things you share. In fact today I had a really rough day the fibromyalgia at times puts me in two shakes almost like tremors like the nerve endings aren't sure what to do and I had a day like that yesterday. I've had a brain scan it came back normal and so we've just related it to what the fibromyalgia does when I have too much overload. My youngest has not been feeling well after recovering from a virus 3 weeks ago so she has been going through many GI scans and getting scoped and there's more yet to do. And I thought I was handling it all really fine except last night I broke down in tears and I felt the Lord saying you weren't to carry this load that he is and he reminded me that I probably was trying to be tough for my daughter. I love the beauty of the Lord Jesus how he just lets his fall into his arms he holds Us close to his heart he fills us back up and gives us a new day period on top of things I will be having surgery in a month and so as much as I battle fear over that as I had a crappy dream years ago that I didn't wake up from a dream and I know many people will say oh you'll be in heaven but this mama still wants to be around for my four children and my grandchildren. Thank you for what you guys all share and if you wouldn't mind saying a prayer for me that my surgery will go well and that my daughter gets healing as well. She is so extremely tired she can't get her energy back so I might be having her get tested for chronic fatigue if things don't get better. My daughter lives with continual back pain doesn't always say anything so after we figure out why she can't eat foods like she could three weeks ago before she got sick will be checking into what's wrong with her back but I have a great husband in his name as the Lord and He will be with us through it all
Great advice for everyone especially with fibromyalgia disorder that I have. I often do dishes when I’m cooking, but if I’m having an attack of exhaustion from my illness than I get off it, leave dirty dishes stop cooking ,take 20 minutes or an hr than finish up.
Great ideas. I do something similar but give myself a goal of things to pick up or put away...so pick up or put away 10 things , or 20, or 30..depending on the day. It breaks it down very much like the tv method you use.
Never too late to learn s9mething. Having myself an autoimmunebdisease and things can seem too overwhelming, these advices arevreally really helpful. In addition decluttering is an effective partbof living an easier life
Something I forgot, last week a friend and I were texting back and forth while I was going through piles of paper. I had little piles all over the place - but also had a couple of huge piles. So my friend encouraged me - kept me going. It was just like having a friend sitting with me. The time we would text back and forth was my resting time - time to make a cup of tea or just take a break. I did work for more than 5 minutes at a time, but all the encouraging text interruptions made all the difference. I was shocked at what I had accomplished when I finally stopped for the day.
Yes, making the bed before I leave my bedroom is the first thing I get done everyday! There are several cleaning or maintenance chores that are called mini's. They take a minute, give or take. Thanks for the tips! I have the books Sidetracked Home Executives and have set up the cards they recommend to make about everything you need to do for a clean(er) house and how frequently. Like everything, it only works if you work it! They have several mini tasks, like cleaning the toilet. How do you clean the toilet? It may seem like a ridiculous idea, but there are different techniques and tools to use. Would you consider doing a video about this or other seemingly mundane tasks?
One lady has a video that says to time different size pots of water and then you know how much time you have in between waiting ea pot to boil. I thought that was a neat idea. Thanks for this video.
Great idea's.... I have kids.... So I give them their own cups....they have to used that cup to drink juice ..milk kool-Aide....that way not a lot of cups or glasses in the sink...
Loved this video. Interesting my pet horror was always emptying the Dishwasher. Which always leaves dirty dishes in the sink. One day I timed myself unloading, putting away & reload the few dishes in the sink. 3 minutes. I have spent at least three times this several times a day just thinking of more important things I need to get done. Solved. Did not clean the sink.
This is exactly how I have to clean. My body will not go more than 5 minutes before I have to sit down. I have pulmonary hypertension and polymyositis. It makes everything difficult. Thank you for your tips and advice!
This is how I have to do it with my back. They heavy stuff gets left and one of the grandkids come in for the vacuuming and mopping. It takes me a couple of stabs at the dishes but they get done.
I clean my table off several times a day. My mom and my husband work against me. It's so frustrating! I love them both very much, but they make more messes than 10 kids! I am always telling them...."There is a place for everything and everything in it's place!" Apparently they think that the table IS the place for everything! Lol!
Great advice as always Jill and Tawra! I know there's a few people shocked by Tawra only bathing little kids once a week. For me I was relieved to hear this from another mother. My 11 year old has eczema and psoriasis and his skin gives him a lot of grief (poor kid) and forcing him to bath more than once or twice a week (unless he's been doing something dirty and/or sweaty and really needs it) only makes his skin worse. Stripping what natural oils his poor skin has managed to produce off every single day would be the worst thing for him. Now yes medically we have a reason for it, but if a sickly kid like mine is healthier bathing once or twice a week then how could it harm your perfectly healthy child? I don't tell other parents about how often we send our son for a bath as I know they'd think we were gross and unhygienic. I maintain that we've only gotten healthier as a family since we stopped worrying so much about germs and being ultra-clean! The cleaner I made our living environment (bleaching the floors and benches daily regardless of if anything had been on them, constantly stressing about everyone washing their hands the second we got in the door, having wipes and hand sanitiser with me at all times and constantly cleaning the kids hands when we were out)...the sicker we all got. One day I just threw the whole germaphobia thing out the window when I accepted that it was having the OPPOSITE effect to what the tv told me. Our immune systems have thanked us for giving it germs to work with ever since ;)
Tawra and Jill I have a question a little history of My son firstI love him but he has ODD his only chore basically is doing the dishes it takes him 3 to 4 hours to do the dishes he does not like me telling him to do the dishes. when he keeps getting distracted. I like you have Chronic pain so I do things when I have a commerical on. anyway My son has been arguing with me to do dishes. it urks me so I did the dishes how do I make him do his chores with out pushing him with my kids rooms I make them put 10 things away or toss everyday after homework
I am curious ....how did you get the diagnosis for CFS? Or Fibromyalgia? I have suspected for years I suffer with fibro, but my doctor wont do the testing needed. I have chronic pain from 2 major spinal injuries/surgeries but i have generalized joint pain along with severe muscle spasms. Was it a Rheumatologist? ( spelled wrong?) I may need to go to a specialist. Thanks
I don’t know why but my joint pain stopped when I cut out ALL grains. I also watch carb intake cuz of diabetes. Lost a little weight too. Inflammation maybe? Idk
There are several pressure points on the body. When they are pressed on a person with fm, it will be painful. A rheumatologist tested those and gave me the diagnosis.
Can't find a place to put it and when I do as soon as I do, my husband will come in and put it right on the table. My iland is the same way. Also it's not trash or dirty dishes. Believe me no place to put any thing. I know get red of stuff right. But I can not figure out what to get rid of if I think of anything I can get rid of then someone else says no. What to do. I'm also only last a few minutes and have to set down. I do the commercial breaks also. But not getting any were. I have to move things around every time before I can clean it by just to hard for me these days. Help.
It takes me a looooong time to vacuum. I hate carpeting, but this house I bought is room to room carpet, except the bathrooms and kitchen area. If I ever get the money I'll get rid of this dirty, germy, gross carpeting.
YES! That would be a great video! I have 2 teens and it is so hard to get them to clean up after themselves! I try and tell them to pick a spot and set a timer and see how much they can get done in that time.
@@LivingOnADime Oh, I see! :) I couldn´t figure it out :D Thank you for answer and for all your wonderful shows and tips! I´m a big fan from Sweden! :)
Green Giant - agree with ya on the daily bath because if mine would get out of daily habit passivity about this could set in....Your avatar looks like my dog- so sweet
"Cleanliness is next to godliness" is definitely NOT in the Bible. But the principle of not being IDLE., is ... heck we are to be Be quiet work with our hands and mind our OWN business- lol 😆

I think it would be great if you made a video that SHOWED us what you do in those 5 minutes intervals, like a day of 5 minute cleaning tasks?

Tawra and Jill...cheaper than therapy!😘
I also have CFS and Fibro. This is the only way I get anything done... 5 minutes here and 5 minutes there. "Commercial Cleaning" - love it!

I do something similar. I thought I was the only crazy person who got up to work during the commercial breaks! Hahaha. But it works...👏👍❤️🌷
I love that you use commercial breaks to clean so do I. Because I have a bad ankle my time is very short for being on my feet.
My new thing is doing chores while casting UA-cam !
I love your ideas. It has brought me happiness to have things done like you have said. I make my bed every day now.Wow to that.
My Mom always said "The dreadin is worse then the doin" its so true ! :O)
Lori Sanford Exactly!! I always tell my kids, don't think to much about it, just
Start somewhere. And don't look at the whole project just one small area at a time 😀
Your mom's quote is wonderful! My grandmother used to say, "Well begun is half done." I think of it often when I need inspiration to just get moving on a chore.

I've been listening to your older videos while I clean this past week.
Thank so much for the great ideas! I get so over whelmed when it comes to cleaning, and I end up overdoing it, then I am down for a day!
I currently have applesauce on the stove. Using the recipe from the cookbook. I just got it yesterday! Love watching all of you.

Our immune systems have thanked us for giving it germs to work with ever since ;)
Let those kids help!
Goodness, I need to be organized 🤔
I set the egg timer for 20at a time .I get so much done by setting the timer
I make my bed everyday now too.
I just found out I have adrenal fatuige. High cortisol. I wondered for years why I cleaned like that. It's the only way I CAN clean.
MY OLD BOSS ALWAYS SAID IF YOU HAVE TO LEAN YOU HAVE TIME TO CLEAN
I am curious ....how did you get the diagnosis for CFS? Or Fibromyalgia? I have suspected for years I suffer with fibro, but my doctor wont do the testing needed. I have chronic pain from 2 major spinal injuries/surgeries but i have generalized joint pain along with severe muscle spasms.
Was it a Rheumatologist? ( spelled wrong?) I may need to go to a specialist.
Thanks
Mary Bartels There is no test for fibro. Diagnosis by elimination of everything else.
Mingowildcat ty for your response. I have several spots like that, like my shins and my arms for sure. Very sensitive unusually so.
Help.
Ugh ...my kitchen table....I did not know that others had this problem 😳
I don't have a dishwasher, nor do I want one.
It takes me a looooong time to vacuum. I hate carpeting, but this house I bought is room to room carpet, except the bathrooms and kitchen area. If I ever get the money I'll get rid of this dirty, germy, gross carpeting.
How dis you know it was my table. Lol. It is sad. I just don't do it...
Maybe make a similar video designed for the teenagers? You know, they listen to someone else than their "nagging" mothers....
YES! That would be a great video! I have 2 teens and it is so hard to get them to clean up after themselves! I try and tell them to pick a spot and set a timer and see how much they can get done in that time.
@@MelissasFitLife love this!!!

@@LivingOnADime Oh, I see! :) I couldn´t figure it out :D Thank you for answer and for all your wonderful shows and tips! I´m a big fan from Sweden! :)
Please tell me you were kidding about your kids taking a bath once a week?!? Then as they got older twice a week?!?!?
Nope, they don't need a bath more than that unless they smell or get dirty.
Living On A Dime Kids get dirty, in my opinion DAILY. Mine got a bath everyday at least once or more. To each there own.
Green Giant - agree with ya on the daily bath because if mine would get out of daily habit passivity about this could set in....Your avatar looks like my dog- so sweet
@@tinai2744 Yes, he's a spoiled baby. He thinks he's human. Lol.
