Songs like this make me sick with nostalgia. I’m 30 now and was 14 when this came out. We had just recently moved to a new state and new town and I was about to start at a new school. I heard this all summer long on the radio and all during that school year. So many memories.
OMG! When I heard drivers license on the radio, I was like, oh Maria's making a comeback! Then I found out it wasn't her and I was so in denial about it for so long. I was like Maria is totally her ghost singer or something. I'm mad because they have the same sound yet people slept on Maria for so long, I guess she was before her time. I'm so glad someone else finally pointed it out.
The weird thing is, I remember one of my friends saying this is the most unromantic love song ever. But in fact this is more romantic than anything, because it's honest and real, not just fluff and imagined schmoop. (Not that there's anything wrong with fluff and schmoop, but well.) This song is exactly what I needed today.
This came out in 2004 when I was a freshman in high school! I would sit there and play this song repeatedly hoping I'd have a relationship like the one in this song. Ended up meeting my bf 2 weeks into the year. Now here we are 18 years later with an 11 year old son and we still put the song on when we wanna reminisce about our teenage years!!
@@jemzcreates Thank you! Funny thing is my son is his dad's clone so I tell his dad that even if things didn't work out I'd still see his face everyday! Lol dna/ genetics are crazy!!
I guess there's just a part of me that likes to bring you down just to keep you around 'cause the day that you realize how amazing you are you're gonna leave me...
Llevo más de 15 años con esta canción en mi mente, y vaya que la anduve buscando por Google y foros en Facebook y nadie daba ,hasta que ayer en tiktok alguien la compartió, no saben que feliz soy al volver a escucharla
This song almost makes me cry with nostalgia, honestly. It's so iconically 2000s music. And it is possibly one of the sweetest love songs, because it's honest and silly.
20 years later, I love Maria more than ever. This made me fall in love with her music. My favorite artist, singer and musician since then. I need to listen to this woman daily. She's pulled me back to the ground every single time I was drowning. Thank you for everything Maria. ❤
That lyric has been stuck in my had for 13 years, I can't believe it. "I hope you can forgive me for that time when I put my hand between your legs and said it was small, when it's really not at all."
Eu também. Por incrível que pareça, tinha me esquecido que era a Maria Mena que contava essa música, mesmo eu tendo conhecido outra música dela muito famosa.
I’ve been looking for this artist and song for like 10 years. This song and sorry really made an impact on the hormonal teen in me when I was 14 years old.
Omg me too! I couldn’t remember the name and have been searching black girl floating upside down for a decade!! I finally found it because of tic tok 😂😂
MrUnit731 I just find it so sad that she feels like the object of the song is the only person who understands and loves and appreciates her. Especially the part where she says that there's a small part of her that wants to put him down just to keep him around, because the moment he realizes how awesome he is, he'll leave her. It's so full of self-doubt and low self-esteem. I hope she realizes now that she's awesome and completely worthy of love exactly as she is. :)
I know this is old, but I remember her explaining in an interview that this song is about multiple people and the different things that they add to her life, or something like that
This was the first song I ever heard from her. Years ago! I still love listening to her music. There's something about her voice, she's really evolved through the years in terms of her sound. I'm such a fan girl.

I love how this song is so honest and personal. It really does the listener a great service - it isn't some ideal of a relationship. Love this.
This one hits right in nostalgia. It was on MTV all the time during the summer of 2004. I was on high school. Good times
I just used the WayBack machine to look at MTVU and found this on The Freshmen section. Lots of good stuff.

White turns blue is one of my favourite albums of all time. I can hear it over and over and never get tired of it. It's perfection.
Seeeeee I miss those years
I was a teenager when this song was first released, and I just realized that the lyrics are so sad.
+Revina Que What's sad about it? It's a lovesong. The only thing about the lyrics I react to, is that she's kinda bitchy.

Well I saw you with your hands above your head
Spinning around, trying not to look down
But you did and you fell hard, on the ground
And you stumbled around for a good ten minutes
And I said I'd never seen anyone look so dumb before
And you laughed and said I still know how to turn you on though
You're the only one who
Drags me kicking and screaming through fast dreams
And you're the only one who
Knows exactly what I mean
And I probably forgot to tell you this
Like that time when I forgot to tell you about the scar
Remember how uncomfortable that made you feel?
See you're not what I expected
But you're the only one who knows how to handle me
And you're such a great kisser and I know that you agree
And you're the only one who
Drags me kicking and screaming through fast dreams
You're the only one who
Knows exactly what I mean
I hope you can forgive me for that time
When I put my hand between your legs
And I said it was small, because its really not at all
I guess there's just a part of me that likes to bring you down
Just to keep you around, because the day that you realise
How amazing you are you're gonna leave me
You're the only one who
Holds my hair back when I'm drunk and get sick
You're the only one who
Knows exactly what I mean yeah
You're the only one who
Drags me kicking and screaming through fast dreams
And you're the only one who
Knows exactly what I mean, exactly what I mean
Well I saw you with your hands above your head
Spinning around, trying not to look down
But you did and you fell hard on the ground
