- Finally I have completed the Hobby Boss T-34/85 in 1:48 scale. This is a quite good model, very well detailed... There's a LOT of detail in there. Good value. It cost me $18 AUD.

The pricing of these kits is just amazing/crazy.. here they cost even less than some 1/72 tank kits
13$ USD with Discount of 25% even :D
Should i grab it ?
Exactly this one
@@StalkeraBg yes. I found it for 15 on Amazon.
Instablaster...
wow thats inredible value for money!
maybe you could build the engine loose from the tank to use in a diorama, as if the tank is being repaired with the engine removed
i believe you can remove the top hull part to see the engine
@@toemuncher9002 jep, have this kit and can confirm
This kit is great value for the money , but there are issues with fit and plenty of ejector marks to fill! Having said that it’s all about prep and taking your time with some research especially if you want to do that interior! These machines were rough, so plenty of weathering options. I used mini magnets on my hull which worked well but did take a bit of fiddling ,worth the effort though! In conclusion this is a great very detailed little kit. It’s no Tamiya fit wise, but at the same time for the price it’s excellent . Happy modelling . Cheers
This is a great kit! I've been hoping to see 1/48th scale armor with interiors ever since the Bandai lines from the 70's disappeared. I hope they do a whole series like this. Great for a wide variety of dioramas, and yo an go as far as you want with these. So happy to see a kit like this again. Thanks Herb. Did a great job on the assembly.
Tnx you becauce i had same kit and I watch your video
Hobby boss kits are good though I always have trouble with there decals Good Video Herbert
Same
Great video mate, would love to see more painting videos as I'm very new to this hobby. Keep up the great videos!
Surprisingly detailed for the price. I'm impressed...But even more impressed by your knowledge of tank anatomy!!! ...'This thingy'...'I don't know what this is'...Made me chuckle, very refreshing honesty. Well done.
Cool kit, I might pick one up soon. It would be nice if you found a way to magnetize the hull halves so you could show off the detail. That's what ill be doing
I was just going to leave the turret unglued so it comes off to allow the inside to be seen with no need for magnets.
$18 dollars, boy are you serious a 1/72 tank cost 45$ each from my local hobby store. Also great video!
Build engine and transmission separately for repair shop scenery piece. That level of detailing is a gift of god for ya!
That's a good idea man
Oh yeah and the collimator is a small sighting telescope, I believe, that helps line up the main gun sight.
One thing I like about hobbyboss, you can get incredible detail (especially with the T 34/85 kit). And for the little money they charge I'm not complaining
Ikr. They're actually really underrated. Their 1/48 M4A3 is only $20 USD (or lower, depending on where you buy), and it even comes with photoetch, which I'm assuming is usually only found in expensive kits, correct?
I really like those long videos :) it's great to watch and relax (: please keep those coming!
Its a lot easier to build after watching the video! I do not agree with all the parts placement (ammo boxes on floor) but the instructions certainly would not settle the argument. Generally I found the instructions to be average to poor and my slight knowledge of tanks (and watching this video) helped. The fit to is pretty average; Herbert had trouble with tracks fitting (I have not tackled mine) and I had trouble with many other parts. I left a few out on the basis they will not be visible through the open hatches. Mine is for a large diorama, not a showpiece. I also sprayed the whole lot camo green before I started, The few parts that had a colour indicated I also painted before assembly. As it is 41C today in Oz, drying time was about 3 minutes.
I find it easier to assemble everything painted and then touch up where I get glue marks or need to fill afterwards. It really is not an easy kit IMHO, so thanks for the video, it was very helpful!
Herbert, I just checked the figures but I'm not a know-it-all. I also kinda suck at math but here goes. A quick Google search revealed that, according to the 'Tank Encyclopedia' the 1944 T-34/85 had the following dimensions: L(+gun)= 8.15m, L(chassis)=5.12m, W=3.0m, H=2.6m. Both kits seem to have been measuring by chassis+gun dimensions so I went with that alone and got this;
1/48th scale direct: L(+gun)= 169.79mm, L(-gun)= 106.66mm, W= 62.5mm, H= 54.1mm
1/72nd scale direct: L(+gun)= 113.19mm, L(-gun)= 71.11mm, W=41.66mm, H= 36.11mm
If you allow for a little fudging for the rear fuel tanks or mastering (ie carving/creating) originals, that means BOTH kits are actually closest to 1/48th scale. Please, check yourself (any viewers too btw) and tell me if something is wrong with my conversions. One thing I'm pretty sure of is that the same model vehicle in 2 purportedly different scales cannot have the same dimensions. Love to hear back on what you find when you put them side by side, if you still can, or someone else who reads this and happens to have both kits. maybe you should give Trumpeter a call??
Would you be making a video on painting the model?
Also, I am thinking of buying this model myself so would you be able to tell me what paints are required to paint the model's interior and exterior (I am planning on painting it in the Russian winter camo)?
got This exellent kit in my stash its defo not going to be a quick build.... but looking forward to it. The trick to this kit is building and painting in sub assemblys then constucting it.
Hobby bass are great kits in the 1.35 scale I've built alot! All the yellow and black hobby boss panzer range are the best for accuracy and detail as there all ex tristar kits
Wow! I can see why this took two weeks to release...
Also, what do you think of people using 1/48 scale models (not ones as detailed as this, though) to play Bolt Action with?
I do this
I also agree. Most 1/48 armour kits are a better scale match than the 1/56 variety. Tamiya kits are some of the best
I'm Looking for the interior for mine too lol I got iCMs early version and I'm stunned at how good the kit and detailing is it also comes with steering rods and the 2 front seats and the breech for the turret so you can display with the hatches open iv went and found a high detailing Pe kit with working hing etc so I can keep the engine loovers open and the engine hatch opens and closes but I need to find a separate full interior kit iv got the interior model on order but this one is gonna be my own build by separate parts for a normal display kit for this early version
Herbert soon realized that he was building a Soviet chess set in the form of a tank
Good and lengthy model build might look for this set in the near future to get and paint purple....shit said too much
Try Tamyias extra thin glues I use the lighter lime fast drying one the most as no over spill and if you do put to much on let it dry the plastic only goes shiny but totally disappears ones pains on and no raised edging for glue excess you get from this revell glue but saying that I'm still a big fan of this glue and the contaca clear from revell till I paid up abitty more to try the tamyia glues now I'm getting more into it and better at building
You usually do get more in a Hobby Boss kit compared to other manufacturers, imho.
It's not the Dragon-level super-duper-detailed kit. You get better than Tamiya-level quality at a very affordable price.
Great video but where is the painting Video?
nice video! might consider picking one up at some point, also what's your favourite modern MBT?
Herbert Erpaderp can i ask ? why you didnt paint some of model's of did you paint them after video ? or did you even paint them ? or what O_O :)
Just picked up three hobby boss t34/85 and two hobby boss t34/76. I just finished three hobby boss KV2 and one hobby boss KV1. I have an old Su85 bandai top hull without the bottom hull and tracks. If anyone has an old t34 "bottom" they don't want, I would use it t make the su85. Gonna use the kits for war gaming .
Very good looking tank! Very few cheaper kits have option to show interior or engine at all :)
Wait, why does this 1:48 scale kit have the same dimensions as the airfix 1:72 scale kit?
This comment gives me autism
The airfix kit might have been a plane since those are larger than tanks
commander's folded seat faces wrong direction?
Dang, the outcome came out pretty nice! But I will still stick to 1:72 scaled tanks..
Can you make a painting Video zu this kit
Nice work!
Strike a pose and pour yourself a large....cuppa! 👍👌👏
thanks for posting... you saved my sanity :D
Mounting of the engine wasn't the easiest, and the "bridge pipe" between radiators kept falling out and landing beneath either of the exhaust manifolds.
When in doubt ........
C4!!!
I've been in a t34 and the hatch is a bit higher than you glued it
Yay bigger stuff!
That's what she said. Hur hur hur, I'm a mature adult.
This is a amazing kit. I really am surprised with the price. Wait a minute, where's my money? :(
This model is very amazing and I will try to get it. Cough* cough* online. I really like this video and hope to see more like this in the future. Thank you!
How many cm is it in total?
You want to know detailed model? Try building 1/35 scale , to me , it's a bloody nightmare
I dunno... in my experience the tiny parts on 1:35 scale models aren't so tiny and fiddly... But there sure can be a lot of them.
Try building the Miniart T55, that literally took more than 3 months to build.
Nice 👍
C4 just on top of the engine! Like it! (not funny joke, is it?)
wowowowowoowowowowoowowow $18????!?!??!?!?!?!? AUD?! impossibru..... Did you get this at Hobbyrama?
Totally possibru! It came from Hobby One in Mt Gravatt.
I'm just going to say it. It haunts me to this day that you didnt put the engine in it, amd you put literally everything else in.
I nnnnneeeeeeeed a painying video!!!!
Honestly I like rubber bad tracks better
you could made a lot more "insert joke here" like the B29
H-h-How can you not build the engine....
i think its a shame you didnt make the engine, because i always like interior in my models, but if you dont have a passion for it then i get why you would see it more as a pain in the ass ;) maybe you could send me the engine if you dont use it :p
Damn, that's cheap! Kit bashing here I come!
which glue do you use?
Tamiya extra thin. Though I think in this video I was using revell contacta professiona.
