  • The Takom M3 Lee, Late is a really nice kit. It has been suggested a few times that I try a Takom kit, usually after complaining about poor fits and such on other models... and I really wasn't disappointed... Obviously there were issues... But this is a really nice model, at what I felt was a reasonable price. I would happily recommend it to others! Good times!

    I have built the Takom British Mk I female and Mk IV Male and French St Chamond (early) tanks from the Great War. I have found them to be very enjoyable build and good accuracy. Was nice to have some Great War Tanks avaliable...they do seem to be becoming somewhat more scarce now the Centenery of the Great War (1914-1918), is now over. Thankfully I picked up all the types from the MkI(1916) to the Mk V(1918).

    Very nice build Herbert, I do like to see the 1/35 builds and oddly enough, I actually have this kit in my stash and was considering building it soon. So now I know it should be a good build, but the tracks may be an issue.
    Many thanks for sharing your build with us on here.
    Have fun,
    Joe

    For a way not to feed the “carpet monster” I added a skirt of felt cloth to the edge of my model assembly desk and when I start modeling l take the felt skirt and pull it in my lap like an apron and the felt catches almost all runaway parts! Much better than getting on my bad knees trying to find small parts!

    First off, great video. Secondly, the "ribby" parts on the transmission cover depict a 3 piece transmission cover. M3's and early Shermans had a 3 piece cover instead of the later 1 piece you normally see on mid to late production Shermans. That so called "seam line" on the ribs are supposed to be there to depict where they bolted together

      I figured it might have something to do with the cover being in multiple parts.

    I see...I think I value my sanity too much for Takom...I'll stick to Tamiya XD. Not that it looks like a bad kit. But I'm too casual for this insanity.

    Not bad for 17 hours I'm on step 7 after 3 days lol but adding all them nuts on the boggies that you had to cut off the edge of the sprue I never noticed at first and then sorting out the seam line on the casting parts etc using the tamyia liquid cement to soften the seam line then an old flat brush to stipple it so no flat spots from sanding it out! Bit apart from having that Seam line was unusual for a Takom I bought the mo 4 ww1 tank from takom just yesterday that's next and it looks amazing and can display with side panel off to.show the drive chains n gearing sprockets! A very recommended kit for you!

    The tools that you put together at 15:37 are actually a folded tripod for an M1919 machine gun. The part you glue on is the foot of the front leg.

    I'm doing the m3 lee cast hull! Its beautiful moulding! The cast texture is nice! I'm not sure if takom has is correct or not about mine being an early and your rivit one being a late I'm sure it's the other way round as the rivit frame the British used to make it quick! Then had to be a recall to weld the inner rivets to the frame or when penetrated by a round they would shoot out like a bullet and batter around the inside of the tank like a bullet! Lol

  • @EMTBonsai
    @EMTBonsai 4 роки тому +1

    There's plenty track links plus spares! Can't understand why you were short!there casting batch numbers mate! Takoms models are really nice there cast hull m3 lee is really something else! But give mini arts m3s a try! There even more detailed

    The thing you were confused about on the bottom, it’s an escape hatch Incase it gets hit and they need to get out. At least I think that’s what it is

  • @Mishn0
    @Mishn0 5 років тому

    The crank is to turn over the engine. The M3 had a radial engine and the oil would collect in the bottom cylinder's combustion chamber after sitting. The crew had to use the crank to rotate the engine for several revolutions to clear the oil out to prevent hydraulic lock and bent rods and such when they started the engine. That would be very annoying.

  • @EMTBonsai

    See if you take a flame to your PE parts it takes the spring out them and there much easier to bend shape in to crevises on grill frames etc so not just sitting proud! They look alot more realistic a d they seem so go to lead kinda feeling and can be bent and shaped as easy as solder wire !

    Why make the bogies workable when the kit tracks are not?

    • @HerbertErpaderp
      @HerbertErpaderp  6 років тому

      Good question. I would think it's either they didn't think or care about that. Or maybe it's so people who use workable aftermarket tracks can also have working bogies.

  • @eurovisionspot3491

    I bought one the last year... and after to see with detail was one of my worst kits bought. Impression marks of plastic mixture, sags in the plastic and in other areas the plastic with a deformed surface. and the worst in hard-to-remove areas. My advice, seeing this, spend much money and buy the miniart or opt to the Academy kit, not so good in detail but is cheaper.

    Just to be all pedantic and nit-picky, it's not a pick axe, it's a pick mattock, which is a combination pick and adze. But of course, who really cares? Right, nobody - just as I suspected.

    • @HerbertErpaderp
      @HerbertErpaderp  5 років тому

      Why would I install sight linkages if I'm going to glue the gun into place.
      If I didn't want to build this you would never know I even had it.
