CHALLENGES are extremely important for those like you who can rise to them. I think it's hard for teachers to recognize when a student needs them, because so often what's need is the opposite: remedial work!! 😅
So true that as teachers we need to get feedback from the students! I’m sorry you struggled, but your dedication to your craft shows in you pulling through and persevering!
Truly sad story.😢 Back when I was learning to play the piano I way tortured by etudes, too. Sadly I have to admit, I handled working on them quite similar to what you used to do and my teacher gave me a pass on them, too.😬 She was far too nice with me.🙈
Hey hey April! Thanks a lot for your interesting story or episode. That's a really sad story and it means a lot. I'm always rooting for you. Take it easy.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Satoru
Thanks for the great (and funny!) reminder about etude practice. I also really liked the percentage breakdown that will help me plan my practice time. 👏👏💛🎶
Bravo! What an amazing performance! Now I have to ask you, how long did you practice your teary eyes before committing to video. I'm impressed, I'm just curious as a part-time tier letting instructor.
Hahaha, I should have practiced that a lot more. You may believe me when I tell you this was my first take..... I'm still an amateur at getting emotional over my sad past with etudes.... 😳
You're brill, I am not even sure I should be commenting on this but it is really motivating! I don't think I stand a chance to learn an instrument, lol. Your story is very impressive!
Dear April. Firstly, thanks a million for your amazing videos. I love them! You're an inspiration! Just a quick question, I'm preparing for a flute recital in June & have very limited time. I teach almost full-time time & a mother of 2 teenage boys and and... so sadly I don't have 8 hours a day to dedicate to my flute practicing (that would be amazing!) ... Would you still recommend I practice etudes on a daily basis? I practice about 2 hours a day (always starting with Moyse, T&G & Reichert) for about an hour... I would love your advice. Keep well & thanks again for flute tube 😊❤...
Thanks for the kind comment! Even with my own students, I admit that if they are doing intense preparation for a competition or audition, I let etudes slide a bit.... 😬 I think keeping them alive is key if daily practice is not possible. I actually find it relaxing and helpful to play etudes if I'm preparing hard for something else - because it keeps my fingers going, etc, yet there's no real pressure attached to them (like there is for the pieces I'm working so hard to polish for some big event). We're all only human! And I think you can trust yourself to find the balance that makes the most sense for you. Good luck with everything and nice to "meet" you!
@April Clayton - Flute Tube Thank you, April! That's great advice. Today is my long practice day. I'm hoping to get in 4 or more hours, so will definitely include an etude :).. Please lmk If you ever decide to visit South Africa (Cape Town) ... it would be amazing to meet you! Thanks again. 😊 Pam ❤️
@@pamelawijnberg3251 I would certainly. love to visit South Africa sometime - what an adventure! You never know - I will keep you posted if I find myself headed there :)
My guess is that's really what he did when he had a rare day "off" - I know he was traveling and performing pretty constantly for a long stretch of his life!
Confession is so good for the soul - but ice cream is better! 🍦🍦🍦🍦
