  • How to use adjustment screws of a flute to synchronize key closing. There're 4 adjustment screws. Yamaha YFL-365II (current model 361H). The adjustment to synchronize the F and A# keys can be performed by changing the thickness of the solid felt on the metal pad located on the opposite side of the F# key hole (or the A# trill lever).

    Thank you! You just helped me fix my flute, the F key wouldn't work, tightening the adjustment screw was the solution to fixing the leak on the f# cup, brilliant! It works perfectly again, very happy. Have a lovely day!

      F key? this is a common problem, 2 flutes had the same problem. I managed to figure it out and fix it by adjusting the screws by trial and error a little at a time and before i saw this excellent video. now all makes more sense.

      I’m a beginner flute player and when I switched to low E to C it would just be pure air sounds. I immediately checked the screws and realized one screw was nearly about to fall off

      How do you even adjust it when there's a lever above obstructing the screwdriver...
      An L shaped screwdriver?

    I just want to say "thank you" to this helpful video. I bought a flute used and it wasn't playing correctly, so I tried to fix it myself. I couldn't fix it after a while and then took it to a store that said that it would be less expensive to buy a new instrument! They had no idea what was wrong. I watched this and now, it's fixed because I synchronized the proper screws. Thank you!

    Thank you so much for the video. The local music shop is closed because of the pandemic and it can only do repairs by mail. Music is so important during this time to stay focused and happy. Your video helped us without have to mail it for repair. Thank you for the emotional rescue! Hope this message finds you in good health.

    Thank you so much for your video. My flute developed a problem during rehearsal today and I have a performance in two days, leaving me no time to get it professionally fixed. I took my spectacles screwdriver, turned the screw and now I can play F again. And I feel so proud for fixing it myself. Thank you so much, you saved me money and time.

    Before watching this, I took a flat head screw driver and a hammer to my flute to adjust the lever that presses down the loose key when you press your right index finger. Was sure that would fix it. I was wrong. But, I haven't done much damage to it, it's reversible. I think this video will fix the issue I'm having, but it's the middle of the night and I can't test the flute. Tomorrow morning hopefully should be all good.

    Thanks for the explanation! I found the basics elsewhere first (ifixit tutorial and fluteland forums), but your video filled in the gaps perfectly. I've rehabbed brass before, but my son's flute is new territory. You helped us resynchronize the F and F sharp keys, when his director was inexplicably unable to diagnose and help with a very simple adjustment. Life skill acquired!

    My wife's flute has this problem and I figured out what was wrong but it has no adjustment screws. She told me the ones with those adjustment screws are the student flutes. I'm not getting in over my head by trying to take this thing apart to adjust it properly. I ended up shimming that little metal piece with a tiny piece of Scotch tape, that got it working. She would have never let me tinker with her regular flute which is a silver Brannon Cooper that costs about $14,000. Unfortunately when her sister dropped her off at the airport she left that one in her sister's car and is having to use the backup flute. She is playing a gig tonight so we will see if my little Scotch tape shim worked, so far it is when she tested it. The backup flute is a Yamaha that she paid about $5,000 for with a custom head joint back in the late '90s. After we get this thing professionally cleaned and adjusted and working correctly it is for sale for $2,500 if anyone is interested.

    I’ve tightened the screw for the A# cup all the way it will go and there is still a delay in the synchronization of the keys. Any advice?

    • @weidesvideo
      @weidesvideo  Рік тому

      if you can insert a tiny piece of tape onto the front of the screw or the surface where the screw touches, that may act like "extending" the screw (like it goes forward more). otherwise, that key pad needs to be thickened (which is harder to do)

    Hey my flute does not have the screw that tights the F# key and I have to fix the other key that F# controls, it does not seal completely and air leaks

    • @weidesvideo
      @weidesvideo  8 років тому

      +nestor ismael An old Yamaha 22N I had had one less adjustment screw as well as I remember, probably it was related to that key you mentioned. The proper way to adjust it is to add/reduce paper shims underneath the pad so it shuts at the right height. Don't bend/press the cup since it may break the linkage or get distorted. Good luck!

    • @weidesvideo
      @weidesvideo  Рік тому

      Not sure, could be a pad leak. Try use small pieces of scotch tape to tape/hole down the keys you cannot directly press. If this makes it play better, it's the key alignment. Otherwise, use more tapes to seal around those keys, and if that plays better, it's probably one or more pad leaks in those taped keys. Good luck!
