Ok, so…. I learned a valuable lesson while filming this video. Filming in direct sunlight while facing the sun (as I was for the second half of this video) is NOT flattering! Lol!!! Just a heads up if you ever decide to film a video like that….you’re welcome. ;)
O.M.G! I love the longer and fuller Bob on her! It instantly took off 15 years off her face. I love the new color, style and length. I am soooo glad to see this change! Absolutely love this video and the wonderful sound of the stream... we, as viewers get hair education as well as therapy (with view of nature and sounds of nature) at the same time. As always, much love to you from Charlotte, NC ❤️
The stylist killed it with her total makeover! Everything about it is more youthful and brings out her skin tone and eye color. Amazing transformation😁
I love her new style! The question about going to a shorter bob really depends on her lifestyle--does she put her hair up in a clip or ponytail due to exercise or another activity? Either length is a win for her and the color change really seems to warm up her skin tone!
I like the cut on the shorter Bob, but it’s just so playful that I think it would need a little bit of brightening just tiny skinny lights in beige blonde across the top. Nothing too flashy nothing too gold. On the longer Bob though, I think the color is perfect as is.
To me, she looks much younger and vibrant with the bob look, whether the shoulder length or slightly shorter than shoulder length. This was a great video to demonstrate longer is not always the best way to go. She looks fantastic with all that hair cut! Beautiful woman either way, but a great example! Thank you
Wow! This has been my dilemma for awhile now! My hair isn't quite as long as hers but I try to let it air dry, use electric rollers and end up with bouncy hair that lasts for about 3 days (when I put it in a high loose bun at night.). When I saw Kate's after photos I was stunned at how much "lighter" she looks and so flattering. You see her face instead of gorgeous overwhelming hair. It IS hard to chop pretty hair tho! You guessed it right and she found the perfect stylist for her. Love, love it and do agree that when she's ready the shorter version looks fantastic.
Right! I think you bring up a great point. All the styles look great on her but her current style and the shorter bob do look a bit less overwhelming and bring more attention to Kate! Well said!
1. I don't think it's dated, but she could definitely make it more trendy by adding some curtain bangs. 2. I absolutely think she would look fantastic in a bob! I've had Bob's before watching your channel, and it just looked like a shoulder length version of the same long hair that I always had, but once I went to a stylist and explained I wanted a bob the way you describe it (slightly angled with slightly beveled layers in the back, ect), WOW!. It made a huge difference! Thank you so much for these videos!
That’s awesome! I’m so glad to hear that worked out for you! It’s amazing what a slight shift on a Bob shape can do right!!! Thanks for trusting me with that.
Wow! I love what Kate did. The new color and the shorter hair gave her a more youthful look and made her already beautiful features more striking. Kate, you look wonderful!
I thought for sure you would say Kate's original style was dated. To my eye it was because of the puffy, set-with-curlers look closer to her head. Wowza on the long bob both full and straight!! They both look fantastic and both give her a look that is much younger. Wow. Color makes her look younger too. Amazing. The format of this video was super fun. That's quite a high level of talent you have JH ... to deliver content that makes a viewer who was been viewing for a few years still have a blast! As always, thank YOU!!
I LOVE the wavy bob on Kate! I also like the straight version. At 67 I constantly question cutting my fine waist length hair. As others have brought up, lifestyle has me keep it long. I mountain bike, hike, kayak, bodyboard and wear it in a braid for all of these activities. If not braided, I wear it up in a twist at home. I’ve been cutting and coloring it myself for 26 years and the thought of having to not only pay but spend hours every few weeks in a salon sounds torturous!😆 I have fringe and a bit of side wisp with gentle layers. I flip my wet hair over backwards and chop! I follow Justin’s technique using a fine tooth comb for the front/side fringe and wisp. I’m certain a food stylist could rock this overall idea far better and give me outstanding color but when I weigh the pro/con I still lean to self care.🤷♀️ I see these makeovers and they all look amazing! It would be fun to just see what I would look like… That may just push me over the edge!😬❤️
Hair that is too styled is an aging period. The longer hair looked very styled and stiff. It would age most women, even if you were younger. I planning on cutting off my long textured hair next weekend and think I'm going for a Bob. This video has given me the courage. You look great Kate!!
I'm from the big hair generation. I love her hair as is, but I totally get wanting a change. If I had such luscious locks, I'd be terrified to cut it as well. I totally get wanting something easier to care for. Wow! Now you know how much your videos help us help ourselves! Kudos to Kate, and you both!
I totally agree with you Justin. I immediately thought “power suit” but given her many years of wearing her original hairstyle she seems like a fun, bubbly person so the soft curls look really good
Ahhh. Well, my first reaction was: ' Why would she cut off that gorgeous, long hair? Hair like that is never a bad idea, even if it's not strictly speaking trendy'. But reading her concerns, it totally makes sense to me. I faced the same conundrum a while ago, just with thick, wavy hair. Would I rather have a gorgeous, curly long mane on special occasions and 'flat at the crown, bushy in the ends' hair in everyday life, or a less exciting bob, I can style in 20 minutes after washing and then wear for 3 days that way. It really does depend on personal lifestyle. I'm at an age, where it made sense to prioritize my 'job look' over my 'party look' and did the big snip. I might just grow my hair long again at some point, though. Who knows. She does look pretty though, so no doubt, she'll look good with a bob as well! And change is nice, after such a long time, I'll say that.
@@justinhickox Looks spectacular! Better then the long hair actually. 10/10. I like the waves a little bit better...but even straightened, it's very flattering!
Hi hair sister, I also have heavy textured hair and have been wearing it long for about a few years. This is a total personal opinion, I'm over the long hair . Over it. Also, women are all beginning to look the same with that style. Bring back the Bob and shorter hair. Shorter hair sort does what hair does and it just looks different on most women. It unique adapts to the woman's face shape and jawline. Which makes you look younger.
Love the bob and the deep side part! Kate looks amazing. 😍 I do prefer the wavy style, but totally agree on the power suit straight style. Both lengths look good on her. Shorter is more playful.
Wowza!! Kate is beautiful. She looks great in all styles! Original hairstyle: not dated, looks good. Medium-length bob allows her face to be the center of attention. The side part gives some volume up top. Color change is flattering and vibrant, brings out eyes. Straight style is very classy! My favorite look is Justin’s “what if” look- the shortest, spunky, bob! Healthy and youthful! Thank you Kate and Justin!!
Incredible transformation. Shows how too much volume & length can swamp the face, but this has really lifted & freshened her look. Great colour too. It really has taken years off her 😃
At first, I thought no don’t cut that hair, but WOW! Her new cut and color are perfect for her and make her look even younger. Just beautiful! Taking this pic to my stylist!
I don't think she could go wrong with any of the hairstyles shown! At first, I loved her original long hair and thought it would be hard to improve on that ..... UNTIL I saw the bob & color that she had done before hearing back from you. The long bob looks f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c !!! 👍👍
I love Kate's new style! Plus the straight version looks flattering on her also. It sounds as if she has some of the same hair issues as me: fine hair, which I curl because I think it's more flattering than just straight. I do get tired of curling it though. I've been wondering if a shorter bob would be easier. Justin, I appreciated you mentioning in this episode that a shorter bob still requires some time style it.
Love the long style she had, but I get it. After 20 years, it’s time for something new. The bob is adorable on her, curled or straight. As she is concerned about volume, it might be interesting to see what the straight bob would look like with a side part instead of down the middle. That could give her volume on top that would add interest to an already cute cut! Great video. Always appreciate your ideas, Justin!
I’ve had alll these styles and everything in between. My all time fave is the long waves-like another commenter said, you can just put it in a ponytail if you want! The biggest mistake I just made with my recent haircut was going too short-I have cowlicks along the nape of my neck, all growing up and anything shorter than 4 inches is a nightmare to style. Hard lesson learned cause this will take months to grow out! Love these videos, keep up the great content!
So sorry to hear that! You bring up a very good point. How the neckline grows is such a huge factor in how short hair should be cut around it. Thanks for adding this piece of insight.
After completing watching the video, I absolutely love Kate's new hair, I loved it long, but love it equally as much at the shorter length. That being said I do prefer the longer length bob over the shorter length. Also, I think her hair looked fantastic styled straight, so pretty both ways...options
Kate would still look beautiful bald lol. Love her new look. And I 💯 agree with her straight hair being ‘a power suit.’ Spot on. How do we send in our photos for this series? I’m in a style rut and would love your expert advice. 😁
Very true. She’s beautiful to begin with so anything is an option really. There’s a link in the description of this video you can use to submit photos.
My texture and volume have changed in the last few years. I have to have the ability to put my hair up due to the reaction of frizz and inability to hold a style. I have quality products but nothing can control it for long. It’s about shoulder length in the front and a bit longer in the back. I don’t color and rarely use hear tools. I’m at a loss with what to do. Thank you for the series-love it!
Her new cut is exactly how I pictured a bob cut on her! I even love her new color. I think her prior color looked a bit frosty for her complexion. The new color is beautiful. Really brings out her eyes.
“Frosty”, yes. I must remember this word the next time I have my own highlights done. I’m forever trying to explain how I prefer the warmer or more natural tones for my skin tone. I often end up looking like they frosted my hair. Ugh.
I was blown away. For some reason, a "bob" to me is not curly. I would not know that she had a "bob" cut. It think both look fabulous on her. Longer hair would drag her down but the new length.....FABULOUS
I had done in the past a long layered Bob Shag combo.. I would pin some of it up, which gave me a short haircut look, or since I have thick, wavy and curly hair, allowed it to dry naturally with a hair serum for softer wavy shag look.
I think the word you are looking for with the shorter version is "sassy". At first I definitely liked the long bob I think it makes her look younger. Then after seeing the shorter version of the bob, I like it even better! I think it gives her a more youthful, fun, sassy look and makes her look 10 years younger. Thank you for your videos. Always enjoy watching and seeing what you come up with.
Great video. I am going to try the shorter bob version for myself, as I am near 70, but I still have brown hair with highlights caused by the sun in the summer months and I like to pin my hair up for swimming and variety. I have a perm for waves that I do not need to style much at all. Layered cuts have always looked better on me.
I enjoy all your videos. I learn something every time. But, I got to say, this is probably one of my favorite videos. Such a lovely lady with long beautiful wavy hair. And then her next step up with her new cut at the shoulder, wonderful! And then your shorter version,, it's a win-win all the way around. There's nothing to dislike or disagree with in this video. I think videos like these help us be a little bit braver when we want to make a change. I appreciate the confidence you bring to your audience. You are special. Thank you for your goodness and sharing your expertise and passion. Be blessed.
Thank you so much! I was really excited to do this video but I was a little concerned that it wasn’t going to be as valuable since there weren’t as many “mistakes “to touch on. I’m so glad that you found it valuable. I really appreciate the feedback. Thank you.
OMG, love the shorter bob cut you suggested. Her new cut already took years off face, but the shorter style does even more. Beautiful lady and she definitely has a talented stylist.
I was going to comment not to change a thing but I wanted to see what you were going to say. Seeing her new cut and color- I love, love, love it! The color looks better, richer too! I think she looks great with straight hair but the cut is fabulous with the curls. Kate is a knockout! Thank you Justin-you rock!
I'm going through the exact same decision making process about cutting my hair as right now. I've been considering a bob, but I'm so scared it will make me look older and matronly. This video was perfect timing! I love the shorter version of her bob. It looks so youthful and playful which I love. I think that is what I might go for!
Kate was ready for a change... so much so, she couldn't even wait to hear from you Justin! She trusted her gut and it looks beautiful. I loved it the way she originally had it, but then I loved it more with the new haircut. I even like the shorter version. But with a beauty like Kate, I'm not sure she could go wrong... Lesson here: Trust your gut. Do what you want. We don't need permission to change and maybe we'll find that perfect look! Loved this video!
I love the straight hair just as much as wavy! She is adorable all around, her hair is just a bonus - all 3 lengths look amazing on her! I'm super jealous of her wave application - I LOVE my own hair with waves, but I'm terrible at it so my hair is usually straight (and flat...and frizzy!🤦♀️).
Kate, looks amazing! 🤩 I also like it a bit shorter. That’s exactly what I did with my hair when going to a shorter cut. I went in and cut it at different lengths until I was comfortable with the length and felt happy. I love the outdoors. It’s so peaceful.
I saw someone do a faux bob where they pinned the hair underneath. Nice idea to try out if you don't want to commit to a cut. As for me, I leave my hair long for now and sometimes wear wigs to see how I like a different style. Great and informative video!
Thankyou Justin 😊 I love Kate's new hair cut, her waves add interest to the bob, i thought her long hair wore her, it was overpowering, where as the new cut accentuates her attractive face. The colour is warm, suiting her skin tone. The shorter versikn suits also, though it wouldn't be long enough to pin up, if she wanted to.
I liked the shorter, more playful version, but honestly, ALL the styles were beautiful on her! While her longer hair was nice I do think she looks younger after cutting the length. Loved this video - Thanks, Justin!
I can't decide! Every style looks good on her! She's just a beautiful woman! 😄 I love her bob length now...I love the shorter version as well! And shorter might feel nice in the summer months! She really can't go wrong!
I have a LOT of fine hair on my head! I wore my pin straight hair between armpit length and bra strap length for about 20 years. I considered cutting it into a bob, but worried I would instantly regret losing my long hair. Sound familiar?! I recently cut my hair into an above the shoulder length slightly angled (because of the advice on your channel) bob and I am LOVING it!! No regrets. Not one! I say GO FOR IT Kate!! Edit: OK, now that I’ve watched the whole video, as soon as I saw her new bob, I instantly thought she should have gone shorter!
She’s a beautiful girl. Her new style makes her look 900% more youthful👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 The shorter version you photoshopped would absolutely look great and more playful and even more youthful. This makes me want to get that hair cut myself!!!! Thank you Kate and thank you Justin! Oh, and the straight style would look cute tucked behind one ear😀
Kate looks great with all the styles! She’s beautiful ! But I love the change the bob gave her and it looks greater shorter as well as the way she has it now. I think if she wears it straight, perhaps have it with a side part to soften it a bit. Love all of your videos 💖
As a 49 year old woman with fine, somewhat thin hair I looked at her before photo and could only see what I’ve hair I’d aspired to have for years. Honestly, she has a beautiful face and will look amazing in any hairstyle. But when I saw her after photo I was absolutely blown away. She looks years younger and much more on trend! I am so happy for her and now I’m considering that style for myself, so thank you!
I love it even shorter but I completely understand her hesitance. I have also struggled with this myself, and I recently made pretty much the same transition. Now I'm thinking of going "all in." Thanks for the nudge, Justin.
Oh my gosh her hair is adorable on her!! It brings out her cheek bones and eyes!! Love that you did this Kate!! What a fun video Justin! Thanks for doing it anyway even though the format was a bit different
Love your videos!!!! And LOVE this lady’s hair! You were in my head this whole time bc I was thinking a few more layers throughout and a bit shorter would be AMAZING! I have fine naturally wavy/curly, hair..always long growing up and as I’ve come into my 40’s I found that my hair and face had changed; both thinned, and my long hair seemed to drag me down; so for years, I wore the top knot almost daily! Yeah…UGH!! Not to mention; doing that, actually made my hair fall out due to being bound up all of the time. I did the drastic, stacked bob and loved it but now going more into an inverted lob??? mode bc I do enjoy pulling hair up in the hot Tx heat and having to style it everyday takes a toll as well. I think this woman looks great and could go a bit shorter BUT she should keep in mind that if she is a ponytail girl and may need a styling break every few weeks/days, she should keep enough length to be able to pull it back if need be. Trust me, us ladies can’t be fashionistas EVERY day and realistically, we need to be able to throw n go w the hair in a pinch!. 😂 At least I do.
Love the new look! She looks fabulous! I prefer the longer version than the shorter. I need a new look bc I know my hair style is def. outdated. I have very wavy/slightly curly hair and I blow dry it straight with a round brush giving me a round brush curl. Ugh, so not into my hair anymore that I wear it up all the time.
My initial reaction to seeing Kate's photo - she is so pretty and has such beautiful long wavy hair. However, I thought her hair was a bit too long and it seemed to take over her beautiful face. I feel like her hair was all I saw initially. Maybe a few inches off would make a big difference and possibly warming the color a tad. Then I saw her photo with her new bob. Wow!! What a stunning look on her at both lengths. I agree with others that I always thought a bob was slick and straight, but Kate takes it to a whole new level. I so love this series Justin!
Love your channel Justin! Kate really did herself a favour with this style. She looks really refreshed, and less trying to hold on to a "look". I recently learnt something important about having a bob that is chin (ish) length. It casts a shadow on your jaw line, which really helps in bringing back definition to that area. Which is subtly more youthful, no makeup required!
I agree with you 100%. She looks amazing with the bob. I myself struggle with the thin texture, but I have thick volume of hair. It’s also a mixture of wavy and curly which makes it a daily struggle in the dry climate of Colorado. I am a runner and fitness instructor so I find myself wanting it thinned so there is less hair to dry and style. I would love to know your input on my hair, if you are so inclined.
And thanks for reaching out. Great question. It’s tough to give you specifics without seeing your hair, with that said people who have a fine texture of hair however have a dense amount of it, typically do much better with layering to thin out their hair versus actually thinning their hair out. It’s really a texture of hair that you have to cut shape into if that makes sense.
Wow Justin, great advice for Kate and for all of us. Kate is absolutely gorgeous with her new cut and colour! I love it. I really like the straight look on her as well. Justin, I totally thought the same thing… how professional! I like her new style better than the original longer one… i found the features of her face were lost by too much hair. I adore the shorter version too. I think she’d look amazing in it as well as her parent cut. 😊
My favorite video of yours-& I’ve watched a bunch! You go through the very thoughts in my head. And although I love long hair & think Kate looks pretty in the initial photo, I really prefer the new version. She looks more up-to-date. I like the longer bob vs the shorter one. Pretty gal!
I'm a fan of the shorter length for summer and shoulder length for winter months. The straight hair looks more business like and a change of pace for her.
Props to Kate! Sometimes just sharing your fears with other person gives you that small, but so needed push towards the change! I used to have long hair (almost butt lenght) but was so fed up with it (too heavy, impacted my neck & head aches, too dense so would take forever to style it, no volume on the roots, and in the end - not flattering at all, so why have it?). I got it cut to a neck lenght few years ago. The whole salon hold their breath the moment I said "cut it till here". Both hairdressers and clients were starring at me in shock. Took a few minutes of negotiations to finally make them cut it off xD I was 200% ready, and people... 0% ready.
Love the new style as well as the potential shorter option! So much lighter and chic than the long waves that are lovely but seem overdone on Insta, etc. I would love to hear how she achieved the amazing volume and wave in the long bob. Thanks for this series!
Only because u are asking for our opinions i would say i love her colour, her cut, her length.I would only advice her hydrate her hair with new products which did not exist 20years ago till she sees the hair shinning.Lots of vitamins will make the difference, she will still have beautiful volume but different kind of volume.Beautiful hair!
Hi Justin, I love her new hairstyle, but I just loved it, when you showed it cut a little shorter. It's just so youthful and bouncy. Either way she looks great! Thanks for all your videos. They're so helpful.
Ha ha, well, I never saw that coming! To be honest, when I first saw the photo of Kate, I couldn't see anything wrong with it. She's a beautiful girl and the style looked good on her. Then when I saw the other photos, she looked great on all of them - her current style and your suggestions. I think she's just got that kind of face that suits any style. At the end of the day, as long as she's happy with it. You were right, that was definitely different!
While Kate looks great with all option, I like both of the shorter styles a lot, with a slight preference for the shorter "livelier" version. Kate's hair is beautiful (as is Kate), and I love that she has styled it with wavy loose-curls which I think really enhances either of the cuts - such a refreshing departure from the long, super-straight, middle-part style that seems to be everywhere. Thanks, Justin - I never get tired of these videos, and appreciate that they provide the inspiration that many of us need to make a change!

It really has taken years off her 😃
Wow!!! I love her change!! She looks so vibrant with her new style.
Try a perm, my go to as a teen!
Love the length that she chose, I even think her new look makes her look younger. Wonderful transformation.
Her new look is amazing right! I think the color helps a lot as well. All over the stylist did a fantastic job.
Justin enlightened me about hair volume, and now about hair density!
Thanks, Justin!
Like the shorter shape too! You knocked this out of the park Justin!!!
Thank you.
Shorter! Shorter! Like you, I agree that her present cut is very flattering. But, I love the shorter version and it's definitely fun.
I love this!!! She was beautiful before, but her hair even accentuates her features even more!
Her hair is beautiful! Not many people have such fabulous hair. Love your little shorter but not the darker color!
I love it straight! Curly bob is great too, but love the way the straight style gives her a whole new presence!
I really liked her hair before and after her visit to the salon! I wouldn't go shorter. What a pretty lady!
Love her new hairstyle right where it is! But I want to know how she gets her volume!
Stay where you’re at. You look amazing. I think your new style makes you look much younger and more approachable. Congratulations to you.
I saw someone do a faux bob where they pinned the hair underneath. Nice idea to try out if you don't want to commit to a cut. As for me, I leave my hair long for now and sometimes wear wigs to see how I like a different style. Great and informative video!
Thankyou Justin 😊
I love Kate's new hair cut, her waves add interest to the bob, i thought her long hair wore her, it was overpowering, where as the new cut accentuates her attractive face.
Definitely suss she would look great w/ a bob
And she did!!
I like the longer bob cut on her.
What I like the most is her hair color change. Such a difference. She looks amazing.
OMG the after is fantastic! Very current and modern but classy. Definitely an anti-aging style for her. Stunning!
I loved her new cut exactly as she had it cut. To me the new length is perfect on her. Brilliant vlog. Thank you Justin.
Wow, her hair makes her look younger and she looks even prettier! Nice update.
What an exciting video. We ALWAYS learning something from you.
Like your idea of shorter, but not the shortest. Just my opinion. She is so pretty, she cannot go wrong!😊
U need a shag
Amazing! The color, the cut! She looks so great!
You definitely nailed this video, Justin…. One of my favorite ones so far!!!!💜💜💜💜💜
Glad you liked it!! Great seeing you here Linda!
@@justinhickox I am always here!!😂😂😂😂
Same!
Loved the surprise reveal !
Kate’s new bob is fantastic but I love the straight hair bob even better, I love it as you called the “power suit” look
Stay with that new look! I like it and you can easily still wear it up which is always a bonus for me
Wow Justin, great advice for Kate and for all of us.
Pretty gal!
Love her new style and even the shorter version. Much better than the long.
Fantastic and makes her look younger. Will be cooler for summer and easy to go back to old if she wants to.
I'm a fan of the shorter length for summer and shoulder length for winter months. The straight hair looks more business like and a change of pace for her.
I love her hair with the longer bob both straight and curly! Both are very attractive!
0% ready.
The shorter is my favorite but any of the three styles are really rockin.
Love the new style as well as the potential shorter option! So much lighter and chic than the long waves that are lovely but seem overdone on Insta, etc. I would love to hear how she achieved the amazing volume and wave in the long bob. Thanks for this series!
I seem to have the same issues with my hair ! I think I will get a bob cut when I am Old,Lol
wow!!! love what she did to her hair!! wow!!! not shorter.. perfect the way it is!!
I love both the shoulder length and the shorter version! She looks lighter and playful!
It’s crazy right. She could totally wear both!
I might be sending in a picture! My hair is wavy/curly, shoulder length and somewhat triangle shape 😬. I think I know what you’ll say lol.
I love both her haircuts! I'm stumped as to how she gets that much volume at the root. I wish i could find a video that would explain it
She looks fabulous in her new haircut, and the even shorter version is fabulous!
The new wavy look is fantastic on her!
What a fun episode! To see the initial and the end result look? That is priceless.
I like the shortest version the most, personally.
Keep it as is. It looks great! A bit more sophisticated than the shorter bob.
This was such a fun and encouraging video!!!thank you
I like the new cut and the shorter bob. They both complement her face and look fantastic!
Number one, she's stunning with any of those styles! But I do lean towards the style, length and colour that she currently has. It's beautiful.
