I was there with my girl friend, Janet. Great concert and one of the best eras in music all around. Managed Crown Records at the time in Crosby.
I was there as well. I didn't live in Crosby at the time, but I do now.
What a band! Swarb, Nicol, Peggy and Mattocks! Unforgettable!

As a Scot.....
best electric Folk band ever... English through and through....Love Swab..G
Great songs, great arrangements....enthusiasm and humour.....unsung hero Dave Mattacks' drums really were crucial to their success.....
Yeah, as a violin player I can say that Swarbrick played it fast but loose here in that way he and he alone could. An inspiring musician who rode the wave between traditional origins and psychedelic rock adventures with the rest of Fairport at the time - Dave Pegg, Dave Mattacks, and Simon Nichol. I imagine that Richard Thompson had gone on his own by this point? Anyway, I love their music, along originally with Sandy Denny in this Storied Band who influenced many players and musicians.
Just realised - Ashley Hutchings, Tim Hart and Martin Carthy lurking behind the amps - presume Steeleye Span were on the same bill
GREAT rare video. Thanks so much.
Now if someone can find pro-shot footage of Jethro Tull from 1971 or 1972... that would be a true miracle.
I love how Martin Carthy is looking at Simon during his solo, and how Swarb nods at Peggy to take a lead when he realizes that Simon left the stage!
LOVE IT!! Thanks...
The Angel Delight lineup!
Oh yeah. Swarb at his best.
Rick Seddon /John Blundell ...where are you??????

What was going on with Simon Nicol, being dragged around by Steeleye Span?
@DieselChief he was outta his head, as was the norm...
did i see maddy prior behind the stage?
Yes, Steeleye were on the same bill. See the videos of their performance.
Did the guitarist quit the band?
No. Simon Nicol is still going strong with them.
Ossie Pithecus Excellent!
lol what happened to Nicol
I think they were debating whether it would be the last song? You see Swarb indicate a sort of "we're out of here" look during the last chorus, and Peggy shakes his head, "No." Nicol's already leaving, and then the other three guys bodily bring him back on stage and put his guitar in his lap. Everybody's laughing... That's what I think is going on anyway.
My guess is that he messed up the end of the solo so badly and 'died' onstage, with the Steeleye Span guys giving him his last rites, so to speak.
