I was there on the sand dunes somewhere with my girl friend, Janet. Great concert and one of the best eras in music all around. Managed Crown Records in Crosby at the time.
Unbelievable that this and your other "Ainsdale Videos" were even filmed let alone survive! And to have found someone who thinks they're important enough to post to the public ( at least until some "suit" discovers them and decides they're too valuable to offer for free)? Much as I loved Sandy, whenever her star shone, all the other talent was in her shadow! Perhaps there are others who think so as well ? Sir Patrick, you are truly the King of The Convention!
not only a brilliant drummer but dave the drum on bass? what a talent.
A bunch of peorple having a great time on stage - splendid!
Saw Fairport Convention last night. I have to say that Simon Nicol and Dave Pegg haven't changed a bit....
This always had a different name depending on the nearest river ...... when they played Sligo a few weeks before this , Swarbs titled it "The Bridge over the Garavogue" ...... we were so chuffed that the band had composed a tune specifically for the occasion :)
I've never seen Dave Pegg or Simon Nicol playing fiddle before!
Swarb: 'Watch what you say - we haven't been paid yet!'
Love the banter between the guys!
back when ‘and now to something completely different’ was new
A real treat!!!
Swarb is as ever magical. A brilliant musician, he's still going today albeit acoustic only due to bad hearing.
Dave Mattacks on bass too!!
@DieselChief
it's a viola, which is larger than a violin and pretty uncomfortable to play because of that... plus, he wasn't trained to play one. this'd probably be why.
saw them do this one in 1979 on the farewell tour... he'd gotten more comfy by then ;)
And now for something completely different... it's MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS!
Simon Nicol looks really uncomfortable playing the violin... Pegg looks as cool as ever!
=) Great clip!
fucking brill
3 fiddling & Mattocks fiddling with the bass
The audience doesn't get it...
People were just better behaved back then, at least during daylight....
@@95thFoot Exactly - I love seeing crowds from that era, sitting and absorbing music rather than showing off to their mates or mugging for TV cameras. Gig going is a trial now because of people talking, swishing pints around or flat out ignoring the band until the one song they know starts and they bellow along with delight. Give me 1971 crowds "not getting it" any day.
@@Dermot2927 I'm with you. I can't stand all the yelling and whooping that goes on at concerts these days. I'm there to listen to the music, not to someone screaming their lungs off behind me.
