Can you use Learning Language Arts Through Literature as a stand alone language arts program? Does it include writing and is it as thorough as Rod and Staff?
Wonderful. I’ll be homeschooling my youngest again this year. I have a mix of different types of text books for our curriculum this year. I’m excited and I’m sure my son will do great.
Amanda I’m a sub via the Prepper community-I’ve just started 6th grade mid year homeschooling-literally today🤪 It was so nice to search homeschooling and find a familiar face🤗
Amanda, could you tell me if its necessary to start at the beginning of Rod & Staff English, or is it fine to jump in at whatever grade level you're at. I'll have a 6th grader in the fall, that I feel needs some remedial work. I tried looking it up but nothing really explains that. Really loving this series & all the new videos! 😊
If I had a 6th grader who was jumping in, I would do the 5th grade English this year. As I mentioned in other videos, it is deceptively simple, but thorough enough to work for a high school English. Especially if you have never done diagramming. Then, next year, I would skip 6th and go to 7th. They would be well prepared. That is what I would do. Lord bless you!
I definitely did the tests and I taught the lesson. Most children are not visual learners and will not pick up information just by reading on their own. Brian was able to do more things independently because it suited his learning style, but with my other two children, that would not work. Homeschooling does require an active, engaged parent.
Perhaps they are promoting it. Ask your local homeschool organization if anyone uses it. If not, it is probably not a tried and tested curriculum. That doesn't mean it's bad. Like I said before, almost any curriculum can work. It just means that you would be in that test group.
I've homeschooled from the beginning and my oldest is starting 7th this year. I also have a 3rd grader and surprise 2 year old 🤣😂 the thing I struggle with is organization and not having school books strewn over our house. Could you let us know what worked for you as well as what you filed and saved. I'm in SC and I think our laws are similar ♥️ Also how you did lesson plans!
I kept everything, and I still have it :) I can't bear to let it go. Every year, I take every workbook and all the pages from their notebooks and wrap them up and write on the outside the child, the grade, and the year and put it all in boxes that I keep for records. As to lesson plans, at first, I started with complete monthly plans. Eventually, I went down to planning ahead every Sunday. At first, long descriptions of assignments. Eventually, simple explanations. I think everyone starts and ends that way.
Do you have any thoughts on Berean Builders compared to Apologia?
I have never used Berean Builders so I cannot compare.
@@TheBealles it is on the newer side. I really enjoy your videos by the way.
@@TheChan7 thank you

Welcome to the club 😉. Let me know if I can help you in any way
Love these videos because I had all of the typical fears when I first started. I wish more people knew how hard it does NOT have to be! 💜
I think everyone has the same fears. That's why it's good for those who have been there to encourage others. It definitely doesn't have to be hard.
Is Khan Academy a good homeschooling program for a 6th grader and a 7th grader?
I used Khan Academy as a supplement, not a stand alone program

Just found the placement test. But would still be interested in your opinion.

@@TheBealles Thank you so much for your input! That seems like a great idea!
For BJU and Abeka history, did you just have your kids read the lesson on their own and answer questions? Did you do the tests?

Do you know amything about cle math? Would you recomend it
Do you recommend Gather Round at all?
Favored4life I have never even heard of it
@@TheBealles ok, thanks. It's all over UA-cam.

We’ve loved Gather Round in our homeschool co-op this year!

Hey I'm in SC as well....where do u do your testing like map testing etc...do u use time4learing and adventures academy ?
Have you ever looked at ACE for English or language arts?
I have and I do like ACE. It’s simple and teaches what’s necessary. My children also liked it.
Saxon is very reading based and critical thinking.
