  • After what seemed like a very long "winter", we finally got the okay from WA state to go fishing. This was my first time back in the PA360 since November and it felt great to get out.
    The rod & line set up that was most effective was the Sage X 9' 5wt with Rio Camolux intermediate fly line:
    Sage X - ghfly.shop/SX
    Rio Camolux - ghfly.shop/Cam...

    Michael is a good luck charm. I recall a similar day on the Columbia. Hadn’t caught any fish all day and then he came onto the scene and i slayed a monster king. Thank you for your service Michael

      The state has stocked it with some large fish every year for the past few years. A lot of fun on a five weight!!

    Looked like a fun day! Speaking of rods and lines....My bass/ saltwater setup is a Reddington Crosswater 9' 8Wt. Set up with a Scientific anglers Mastery 8Wt SBT-WF. I commonly use a 12' Medium sink tip 4 IPS. I have a hell of a time getting a cast over 45 feet, especially with a weighted fly. I was wondering if the rod is too slow for that set up? Or am I just that bad of a caster. haha.

      The Crosswater is a fine introductory rod. Why do you feel like you need the 12' of sink? Many times we just use a floating line with a 9' leader for bass and a weighted fly.
      1 in 100 fly anglers actually practice casting.....just sayin'!

      @@Gigharborflyshop I got the 12 footers because I figured I can get down about 8 to 10 feet in lakes and 4 to 5 feet in a river. That is just for fishing unweighted flies. When I feel like I need to get deep. I fish sculpin quite a bit. Ha ha yeah I reckon I'm one of the 99 dammit.

    How stable is the Hobie when standing while fly fishing?

    • @Gigharborflyshop

      The Hobie pro angler 14 is their most stable model and is crazy stable. We have a few videos about them on our channel.

    any tips for keeping fly line from getting tangled in the mirage drive?

    • @Gigharborflyshop
      @Gigharborflyshop  3 роки тому +1

      That's a great question! I have found that over time I have figured out how to manage line and fish with half the amount of tangles. But it still happens quite a bit. I recently talked to Hobie about an idea I had for a simple accessory to help fly anglers with this issue. I'm actually going to start working on a prototype soon!

      @@GigharborflyshopI’d be interested in that. I was wondering if throwing a wet towel over the drive before casting would help

      I'm thinking more of a fine mesh with a hoop. Like a fishing net but with finer mesh

      This is the only thing holding me back from getting a hobie. Thinking about the Jackson mayfly kayak, and putting a trolling motor on the back.

    • @Gigharborflyshop
      @Gigharborflyshop  2 роки тому +1

      If you're going to sit down and cast, it's not an issue. It's only when standing up. The mayfly is nice if you plan on actually paddling it on small water. But if you fish bigger water and want a pedal drive, Hobie is the only thing I'd recommend.
