I spoke to someone who was relocated by the CPC many years ago in Shanghai. He was given three apartments by the CPC for his home. One he lives in. One for his parents and one he rents out. Now he is a driver just to pass time.
Luke, majority of the residents have moved out of this place, but a few was not happy about the money that the government offered, and refused to move out. To me, ¥2,000,000 for such a tiny unlivable unit is a lot of money but for Shanghainess they don’t think so. I saw someone received ¥20 million for such a old condo from local government and brought to social media that they were treated unfair, seemingly someone else got even more. People in Shanghai are spoiled and become greedy to my point, as an overseas Shanghainess living in the US, I am sad!
@@livinlavidaluke I see what you mean, lol. It is also very meaningful to record these, the changes of an era. These houses were built in the 1960s or 1970s. At that time, the country was poor and the population increased rapidly, so the quality of the houses was not only poor, but also the facilities were lacking and the planning was messy. To demolish and rebuild, to subsidize the people and let the people live in new houses is to be responsible for the people. The traditional Shanghai house you mentioned should be in Huangpu District or a more rural house. I saw in the video that there are several unique buildings that should be preserved and not demolished.
I was living in this area when I was a kid 30 years ago. Then I moved out when I was 18. Thx for the video, It brings me to the old time with many memory. I backed there around 5 years ago, I almost cried when I catches my memory.
I am surprised that there are still old dilapidated neighborhoods remaining in Shanghai. Is this way out in the suburbs? To me, Shanghai is one of the most developed, clean, beautiful and exciting city in the world today. I can't imagine there there are still some old areas left for demolition and reconstruction. One would be wise to buy an older place like this and be offered a lot of money by the government in the future to redevelop.
Lovely video to show us the other side of Shanghai. It would be interesting if you can interview those who stay behind and how they live (without the communal toilet)😁👍
I know in 楊浦區,虹口區,黃浦區,南市區 (centre of city), sweeping 坼 are going on now. Each family either have toilet or 馬桶 inside room :) The one you showing now seems far away from city.....
0:29, you've shown the place that we moved away one year ago. thx for let us see its situation now!

the video took place in YangPu dist. an old industrial area which close to YangPu bridge. definitely not downtown of Shanghai.

Shanghai is a city with new and old building combined. the cost for reconstruction is too high now days. There are still many old blocks in Shanghai.
Thnks bro to show the world how developers in China make people out of congestion by talking to them and send them to out developed places
This area is under demolished will soon be developed a new city centre.
