Most common mistake Prioritizing boost over the ball AND end up missing the boost after which you spin around in circles in an attempt to grab the boost anyway
I've done that. Miss it once, "Shit, quick turn around, i'll get it" Second Miss: "Fuck" now i gotta get that boost 3rd-Infinite Misses: Full on tilt, cursing while power sliding in circles until some part of my car hits the fucking boost, ONLY to have it taken by a teammate and then be yelled at by said teammate about what the fuck i'm doing, *Instant rage quit* :DDDDDD
I would have been happy with that intro, but then you went on to say a bunch of helpful stuff. Seriously this clarifies things for me. I feel like you were using me in all the examples
Those welfare boost pads may not be THICC, but that intro sure was. Also, I am the hesitator in that rotation scenario. This something I have not considered, until know, and a legitimate reason why I suck at Rocket League. Thank you Sunless.
Well, Romeo and Juliet was about two bratty teenagers, who got infatuated with each other, ran off to recklessly marry, and then kill themselves. Boost makes me feel like anything possible. Like I could fly, even!
i honestly just admire the creativity and the heartblood how you edit those videos. like the intros for example. Im not saying im perfect but i usually already know the stuff that gets talked about in the videos, but i just watch them because of the way they are made. You dont get that good content on youtube that much nowadays. Seriously, keep up the good content!
I would just like to say that I really appreciate your production quality. You can tell you put a lot of thought and effort into the creation and editing of your videos. Because of that, you have the most polished product in the rocket league UA-cam community. Thanks bro.
I had forgotten why I had subscribed to SunlessKhan, but this video really made me laugh and realize this guy knows how to make a video. Darn that sexy boost.
Bad inside rotation might be the biggest mistake I deal with in teammates and that I make myself. The worst is when a guy rotates on the inside, doesn't see his teammate immediately the ball, so he assumes his teammate isn't coming and side hits the ball up the wall. His teammate was actually coming and he misses the hit. Now both of them are dead and the other team has a wide open net
SunlessKhan thats close. The lyrics are, "DOOM rock 'grandma' like a kumbaya!" Also, i think you should check out a song. Its called, Soul like Khan, by soul khan. Like heartless khan you can play it like, "soul-less khan." Or other word play
Great video as always. It got me thinking about something that I haven't really seen discussed, that might be a related issue - whenever I start off I always jump into a couple unranked games first to 'warm up'. The problem is that I tend to get use to the slower pace. So when I jump into ranked (plat 2) I'm completely caught off guard by the change in speed. Whereas I thought I was fast before, I suddenly feel slow. Also, once I start losing a ranked game I tend to hesitate more and more, and it becomes a downward spiral. I'm curious if these are common issues among players. Then again, perhaps I'm just special (that's what my momma tells me).
Ugh. I cut the rotation for the exact reason you mentioned. The hesitation from my team mates. When I DO rotate to back up said team mate, it usually still goes back...I'm not sure who's fault it is at that point. Probably both of us. It's when people cut WITHOUT the hesitation that drives me crazy. When I see my team mate in that corner, moving towards the net, I rotate out, because they SHOULD be going to replace me on defense, but instead they cut in front of me, or jump right into me. Team mates playing under the ball bugs me too. It's something that I'll only do if I see that my team mate isn't there, and it's more of an effort to buy time for them to move up so I can move back. Drives me crazy when the ball is in the air for a shot, and my team mate hits it from below, making me miss a shot, putting us both out of position, and giving up an open net goal. Happens way too much, even though I'm at a plat 3/Diamond 1 rank. it's even worse if I have several goals in a game that way, from that corner pass. My team mate should know that I'm going to be there, even in solo queuing, but they still try to play it. Another thing I hate, which is common even in real life sports, and something I do at times myself: The pass admirers. It's never a good idea to admire your own pass. So often I have team mates pass the ball, then STOP to watch it/me take the shot. If I miss, the defenders beat me to it, then we are SCREWED. In doubles especially. As soon as you make the pass, you should be on your way to rotate back to defense, just in case. If I miss the shot, that's my fault. Don't make it worse by not being in position. I do this myself sometimes, so I know =P Takes making mistakes to recognize others' mistakes.
STEIN667 nice essay lol. but my double partner constantly hesitates. he somehow placed diamond in 1s, but in 2s sometimes he just stays still next to the ball. y tf :/
dont worry, that shit doesnt stop till upper champ 1/ champ 2 ranks. and even then it can happen sometimes. but at that point, making ANY mistakes is basically rare and highly frowned upon. You cut rotation once, teammates will vote to ff. nobody likes playing with rotationally retarded players at my level anymore, its just not accepted.
I'm the same rank as you and I never have an issue with pass admirers. However, I do always get teammates who don't know how to pass or center at all. They don't understand that a simple cross is going to be knocked out pretty much every time, so you have to be creative. Then when I get a creative, uncontested cross through, they're hanging out at midfield waiting to go back on defense. FFS drives me crazy
Pass admirer here. I catch myself doing it all the time, such a hard habit to break! It's like in basketball you have to follow your shot, but it's so hard not to just stand there and watch it go in (or not).
Even though I've been a fan for a long time now, you never fail to amaze and surprise me with your editing skills and style. You are simply the best, dad. Much love and keep up the amazing work
#Underrated. I love how you sprinkle subtle humour all throughout your video while still creating a well made, helpful tutorial. Sometimes I don't know if you're joking or not! 😂 Keep it up Khan daddy
Hey man, I've just been lurking until now, but I've really got to thank you, thank you for introducing me to MF Doom, no clue how I didn't know about this guy until now. And while I'm at it, all your other content is amazing too, keep doing what your doing :)
Honestly, as someone who is Plat 2/3 and plays with tons of Diamond 1-3s, the cutting rotation thing REALLY helped me, I hesitate too much. Thank you Khan! :)
N°1 rule : If you did shit, blame the mates. N°2 rule : In any other misconfortable situations, blame the mates. N°3 rule : If you agreed, consider stopping 3v3 solo standard
This is the best episode yet. I will show my friends because I never feel comfortable going for the ball right away because I don’t know if my teammates will go for the ball when they shouldn’t
This was exactly what I've been waiting for. 👌🏼 (Still, if you don't fall for that precious looking boost and choose keeping up the rotation, you're a psychopath.)
All of these tips are gonna change my game up. Also thank god for showing how you shouldn't go for the big boost at the intro, I always just slide back and forth on the small one just in front of goal to build up boost but then I'm taking the kickoff and teammate completely deserts net and if I fail the kickoff because physics then I cop the blame
I feel that more and more people tend to stay too far back on the field now then what they did before so I tend to be at offense on my own a lot and that sucks balls to wait on teammates who are too far away and just waiting.
These mistakes in the higher ranks mostly happen after a goal which shows how much it discourages player when they're losing, they have to believe in the comeback. This happens to myself, I just start to fluctuate between playing fast and slow aimlessly because thr game/match I'm playing seems extremely boring but I still try. Another tip is to follow rotations and to see who has the best angle for the goal which you need to kinda predict where everyone in the field it's kind of needed for that sense.
Usually I play with people who can win first touch, or at least always contest it away from net. So grabbing boost at start doesn't place us at a disadvantage but rather tends to start us out with a "1, 2" to be in possession first. I never understood how people don't win/contain 1st touch, or the ones who go straight for second touch immediately after their teammate kicks off. I just go by "if you can actually kick off, you don't need a goalie".
What is your take on clearing direction? I try to avoid clearing across center as much as possible and sometimes it ends up to my detriment (going out along the side wall which might be a powerful setup for the opposing attacker), even though it's good most of the time. But most players (at least upper gold-plat) constantly clear across goal (or over the top from their side of the backboard), looking for all 3 of the opposing team to chase or at least not keep up, which.... often seems to work out for them? But I hate this, and teammates get pissed off then I'm not doing this too. Do you, personally, clear (quickly) across center when the ball is on your side of the goal, or do you never ever do this?
Kinda ironic how I started to learn your tips like 1 week before you upload ur wysarl episodes. But thats ok, it shows that i'm heading in the right direction ;).
Kk Learned something for one of my teammates (3 and a half) for me (2) and for the third teammate (1). Thank You for making theese very helpful videos, keep it up!
Great vid as usual. Ultimately it's about being in the position you should be in with enough boost, getting to a full boost orb and then using half to get there is a lot of times not the best idea.
Just want to add to discussion (and I'm not talking RLCS here), but if you watch squishy play for example, he cuts the rotation quite often, yet still wins the game. I think it's just as much about being absolutely confident that you can beat the opponent to the ball and win the small, key exchanges, whether you're "cutting off your teammate" or not. So imo, rotation is much more significant against players of equal mechanical ability. But in the end if you can really just learn how to play aggressive and hit the ball well, it'll be more beneficial than sticking to perfect rotation rules. A "ball chancer" with a Nice shot! or a Great pass! is not the ball chancer that you call out. Just the ball chancer with poor ability to hit the ball well. Opinions?
I agree to that. Often when I see my teammate would be to slow I make a turn and hit the ball most of the time before the opponent. My teammate sees this and is already driving to the point where the ball is going to. It's not unusual that this results in a goal for us. So I think you're right, if you can hit the ball better and faster than your teammate and your opponent cutting the rotation would be a good option. But only if you can hit it better. When your teammate clearly has the better position and/or there is no opponent than of course should the teammate hit the ball. But in 3vs3 aren't as many opportunities as in 2vs2 because the rotation should be so fast that your teammate can hit the ball before you even think about it.
in high level solo queuing gameplay, rules of rotation are the meta because you just dont know what theyre gonna do, so you essentially all take turns which is the best playstyle when playing with randoms. squishy can get away with this because people tend to play around him by instinct. Most people know of him, most people that he plays with have seen him play or played with him before because theres a low spectrum of skill at that point so you see a lot of the same people. hell, ive played with jknaps a few times and I've never been higher than champ 3. Everyone knows his playstyle. The same cant be said for random Freakboy99 in the dominus on your team so you dont know what he's even capable of, so rotation is the best.
Cutting rotation can work if either the other player is far back (eg for boost) or if you're playing with a team and can call it out or they just know you'll do it
I'd honestly want to point out t hat especially in Platinum-Diamond range I see little to no people rotating to defend the backboard. There's always 2 guys chasing after the ball in the corner with little boost
Are the thic pads really that beautiful in game or did you somehow add this in? I must have picked up maybe 10K or more, but never realised there is such beautiful particle physics on their surface. Great video and beautiful editing.
Most common mistake
Prioritizing boost over the ball AND end up missing the boost after which you spin around in circles in an attempt to grab the boost anyway
I can relate to that, :c
I've done that. Miss it once, "Shit, quick turn around, i'll get it"
Second Miss: "Fuck" now i gotta get that boost
3rd-Infinite Misses: Full on tilt, cursing while power sliding in circles until some part of my car hits the fucking boost, ONLY to have it taken by a teammate and then be yelled at by said teammate about what the fuck i'm doing, *Instant rage quit* :DDDDDD
Ive named it, "boost chasing"
But I'm so good at doing that :(
If someone fails to catch the ball and it's goal... the boost resets to 33, it doesn't matter if you had 500 boost.... people don't get this
I would have been happy with that intro, but then you went on to say a bunch of helpful stuff. Seriously this clarifies things for me. I feel like you were using me in all the examples

Quadnick I'm so proud of you. get out there and rotate confidently my son!!
The intro was a better love story than Romeo and Juliet
Link please
Well, Romeo and Juliet was about two bratty teenagers, who got infatuated with each other, ran off to recklessly marry, and then kill themselves.
Boost makes me feel like anything possible. Like I could fly, even!
better than twilight?

way more dramatic for sure

I'm a sucker for thicc boost and I'm ashamed of myself.

Seriously these videos are helpful and very refreshing. Theres not one RL series i would rather watch over this one. Stay awesome Sun!
that MF DOOM sample though.. amazing editing like always
Don Scarface I gained so much more respect for Khan after I heard that. Lmao

Best intro I've seen in a while. Love it!
Literally best episode yet, that intro was gold
there's never been a more accurate clip that portrayed me in RL than that intro!
That intro with the doom song was perfecto, o yeah and i learned some of my rotation fails. Keep the good videos coming
Honestly, as someone who is Plat 2/3 and plays with tons of Diamond 1-3s, the cutting rotation thing REALLY helped me, I hesitate too much. Thank you Khan! :)
I legitmately replayed that intro 3 times, it was just so good and well made!

That intro is of higher quality than most movies I see these days. A better plot too.
that intro is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen

I feel that more and more people tend to stay too far back on the field now then what they did before so I tend to be at offense on my own a lot and that sucks balls to wait on teammates who are too far away and just waiting.
Intro is probably the most common tragedy in low ranks. Super relatable.
