One time me and my friends went into ranked 3s and we wanted to test that. I decided to just wait on the other teams side and constantly demo and got quite a few spawn kills and my teammates scored because of that. I was also taking the full boosts on the opponents side every time they spawned. However, it was about 3 or 4 minutes into the match where the opponents were only rotating in our half so I decided to head back and play the game as normal. As far as I remember the game ended very close. Can't remember who won but I'm pretty sure it was by 1 goal. I was Diamond 3/Champ 1 at the time so that's why it could be a good strategy but now that I'm Champ 2/3, I wouldn't try this again since the opponents would be smart enough to outplay us.
It's all about timing, as other RL technics. Your mate is hitting right on to score, only goalie remains, hit him. Same scenario but he'll maybe miss with 1 defense, better flip back. If you demo the def, goalie clears or pass it to tour net. Got some Replay with demo to secure the win (and it feel soo good).
@@outsidercain3038 Yh I've got quite a few replays with bump goals. My favourite one is unique. My m8 in solo 3s launched the ball forward and I was in front to redirect it. I got a hit but realised that all 4 wheels hit so with quick thinking I used that flip reset to bump the opponent in mid air out of the way as the ball went into the net. Pretty amazing I would say.
I wish you went into more detail about how demos can heavily affect team rotations. Both in positively resetting your team's defensive rotation advantage by interrupting the opposing team's offensive rotation with a demo when you are trailing a play and negatively disrupting your team's rotations and ability defend a counter attack by taking yourself out of the play with a useless demo on the goalie when you should have been 1st back. Birds eye views of these 2 specific scenarios would be eye opening for many. Great video either way!
Well my demo tutorials give a lot examples if people want to learn more. For this video we decided to focus on the mental aspects and the major complaints. Until people wrap their head around those and accept them it doesn't matter you if show them how a demo opened up a scoring opportunity, they are still going to say it was cheap to blow up that goalie that was sitting in net because you "can't score good goals".
"we've all been there...." "Dribble the ball down the field" *BOOM* "Waiting for that juicy pass" *BOOM* "Or maybe just going up to make a save" *BOOM*
5:56-6:07: “It is restricting as a player to limit yourself with made up rules about what is skilled or acceptable play. Also, that mindset is setting you up to be easily tilted when your opponent doesn’t follow your view of a fair or skilled game.” *So basically every Call of Duty player ever*
The only thing I dislike about demos is when your teammate disconnects and you're left in a 1v2. Then having someone on the opponents team *only* go for demos on you.
I think people get salty or toxic about demos because it's just an pretty odd feature and mechanic to the actual purpose of this game. But still it's another way to play this game. I find it fascinating that it actually requires skill and technique to master how to blow shit up in a strategical way because I get for myself pretty toxic when someone demos me or my teammate and just thought before this video it had no use. So thanks for giving me another aspect of this game and its wonders. ^^
I confess I get tilted when I get demoed too many times, but it really helps me to get better at dodging them! This game mechanic is hilarious and we should take advantage of it! As Sunless said "Stay Salty my Friends!"
Demos don't bother me until I get demoed 5 or more times in a 1 minute span. Then I lose my mind and start demo chasing, never demoing anybody and losing the game for my team. #tilted
I hope your channel grows so you are able to do this full time... Amazing videos and I know so many people would love it so much if you were able to make more of these.
Actually, I don't mind the demo's in the game. In fact I even respect a well deserved demo and compliment the person making it, all because I do understand that it's part of the game and you can use it as a technique. Great video idea and good editing, keep up the work and enjoy you day :)
Demolitions work so great in silver. Just play the ball into the corner, drive past the ball and demo the goalie waiting at the post. Then your teammate can score. My brother and I used to do it all the time. The downside is that you will get insulted a lot.
The only gripe I have with demos is when people go out of their way for one but even then its still a tactical play because it plays on ur rage and ur opponent knows it tilts u which is why he will keep doing it
In fact, sometimes, the only safe place is up on the cei- *boom, at the moment, your rage meter rises to the full and you just feel like uninstalling and going back to bouncing around in Fortnite*
What pisses me off is when ppl go out of their way to demo when it's not even helpful or part of a play. Also those that rage quit after u demo them back. What i like to call the "it's okay for me go demo, but not play for you" mentality
It is not really the ability to demolisch what people makes angry, the problem is which players and how they use it. The most Demolition players are not using it to open the net or other tactical opportunities. They just do it very often and without any reason. ( okay, there is a reason, they wanna make players "salty")
Demolition is a great tool to get those players who are camping at goalie or possibly avoid a pass play. You can either demo the player who is trying to center the ball or demo the player who is ready for a center to make a goal.
My friend and I are probably one of the few that don't like demos. It's such a dirty play. If I see an opponent I will dodge or stop to avoid demos. 1) people that demo instead of going for ball. The ball doesn't stop moving if you demo me. The ball is what scores. Go stop the ball 2) I don't see the merit. It's like just running at someone in soccer and kicking them down for no reason. 3) you have such little confidence in your defence/offence that you have to resort to demo? It's even more satisfying when someone tried to demo and you dodge, save the ball and start a counter. 4) people that chase you down to demo when you're not on ball or part of the play.
1) if you demo someone before they can shoot you get a lot of space and time. 2) There is a reason, to get the opponent out of the goal. 3) you have to have high confidence in your defense/offense because if you miss you you're out of position. 4) i don't understand what your saying if there doing that then there out of play. Overall if you think its dirty your bad its very easy to dodge demos. also watch the video it explains a lot better than me
one of the most satisfying types of goals is hitting the ball with moderate pace towards the net and then driving in front of the ball and demoing the defender in the net, especially if you correctly predict that they are going to jump over you and adjust accordingly to hit them in the air.
LOVE this video. Demo isn't a glitch or cheating. It is a feature built into the game. Use it to your advantage if you can. If you get sour, it's because you're being brutally violated. I don't like being demoed either - but I don't like it because I know I could have avoided it. Not because they took advantage of it.
This is an awesome video. Sledge and Sunless have a special way of explaining things that make it fun, entertaining and educational. Demos are an important part of the game and are used at the pro levels. Yes, it can be frustrating, but, there are ways to watch out for yourself. Anybody who wants to learn more should definitely check out these videos and Sledge's on his own youtube site. I also hear Sledge has a great discord. - Maple
Thank you for making this! I hope more people see it! Demos are useful at any place on the field. Score goals by taking out the goalie. Counter constant pressure by forcing the other team to respawn on their end. Interrupt rotation and confuse your opponents! And when my opponents start getting salty about it, I know it's getting them tilted too. A little added bonus.
I am definitely not a fan of getting demoed, but I gotta respect someone who knows how to use them at the right time. It shows just how much awareness a player has and, in my opinion, make for some beautiful team plays. (Edit:) Alright, now to go watch Sledge's tutorials and get some demos of my own. :D
I’m in s3 and rocket inspired me to start trying actual demo plays. For a low level player like myself, I just do a slow version of that rizzo play in ones.
I wish people understood nobody cares about a good demo. It's when you literally when you get 8 demos in one minute. You have no reason to be doing it. People that say "You have no skill you just demo" can have a valid argument, because you haven't gone for the ball, you've just been chasing after them. Also, yeah, you can jump over someone, but in champ 3 and gc, if you try it, they will jump too. It gets a lot harder to avoid them. They aren't hard to do at all.

Tbh I never understand the kids that rage over demos. I know from the day I started playing RL that demos are a skill and a way to remove the defense. I have never raged over a demo
TBNR DoomerBro Hacks & More I have raged over a demo. Its when its a demo which provides absolutely no advantage for the other team and is simply done to be annoying, especially in a casual match. Its no fun to play against a team who have a player constantly chasing you all game, and none of your other team mates, for the sake of trying to troll you; preventing you from scoring nice goals from well set plays etc.
@@Aisatsana1971 but that's the thing one guy is constantly chasing you that means he doesn't care shit about the ball so the game Is now a 2v1 and you can see a demo come from a mile away simply jump to dodge it lol
@@Aisatsana1971 Lmfao, I played against a guy who literally only went for demos. He had like 28 demos in a single match. It was very difficult for us to score against them not because they were good or anything, but because that guy named Danger Close was coming for all of us. Every single time. He spawn killed me twice in a row. He was really skilled.
Yea. I've just played a match where I didn't leave spawn for about 1 minute. THe same guy just demo'd me all the time. They won only because no oponnents were on the field. HE just drove around demo'ing me and my teammate. Whiel his friend just slowly put the goal in. So... Yea demo'ing can win games. And if you play 2v0 it's defo a cheesy way to win.
Mike Mortensen exactly, Demos are essentially saying “I don’t feel like I can win a 2v2 Against you guys, so I’ll just remove you so it can be 2v1! Yay Math! I’m so smart” and then feel good about their win.
Ey I just wana say that while yes this is a valid strategy, you have now influenced all the lower rank people to chase around the field all game looking for demos, every game. It feels like the game is different since this was posted. Yes winning has become easier because people don't care about the ball anymore but the game has taken a serious hit. The more casual players just get annoyed. So from a champ 2 who plays with gold and diamond friends, I'd just like to say thanks a whole bunch for scaring my friends away
Honestly if I get demoed and their teammate scores I think good chemistry and it's a fair play if I'm nowheres near the ball (like on the other side of the feild) and I get demoed I thinks it's a bit cheap and wasnt practical I beleive demos are part of the game and holy hell I have tried to demo and I've lost so many games because of it great job rocket sledge for playing how you do taking all the hate and still being VERY skillful
All this being said. I think RL would be a lot more epic without demos ever existing. Think of all the creative ways to bump! And all the creative ways to recover from bumps!

@@atomicdawg321 It's a ubiquitous feeling definitely, trust me even if you have time on other things as well as making time for RL you can always get out of your rank!
My buddy and I use above average demos successfully quite a bit, and around Platinum we have had few matches where losing opponents complimented our demos. “Wow those demos tho. “ An overtime loss and these guys said “Nice Demos!” It was quite refreshing to be respected instead of screamed at.
I like the fact that you include the rizzo demo goal. Because, if you've ever watched his stream, I don't think there's any pro who gets more irritated at demos than he does.
It’s just that people don’t think of demos as something to practice and watch out for, so it feels unfair and out of left field. Whenever someone complains about this sort of thing, I say that, if the game is competitive and balanced (if it’s a popular esport, it likely is), it’s the other person’s problem. In Smash Bros., there are tons of moves that get a lot of hate because they’re seen as too good. If they’re not being spammed at high level play, you can learn to play around it by putting more time into it. If you’re not willing to learn about this stuff, that’s fine, but you can’t expect to just do well against players that do these things. In this case, it’s important to learn how not to be vulnerable to well-timed demolitions. Every player can pull one on you in a game; you should be ready for it.
all these things are true, but you never considered the lower level players, for a silver or bronze a demo is very hard to dodge and can be used to literally make the game unplayable for a lower ranked person.
Just wanna point out that jumping above a car isn't always the most efficient way to dodge a demo. Myself and a lot of other players learned to time that jump and still manage to demo people in the air.
0:05 YOO IS THAT MA BOI MOZZ!? :D I've absolutly become a huge fan of Sledge's and whenever I pull off a Demo Play to score I always say that Rocket Sledge would be proud ... hope you are Man ^^
Valid game mechanic on a physics-based game, as it is extreme physical play on most of ball sports. Complaining about demolitions or bumps equals to a severe lack of skill and incapability of assuming it as such, therefore never improving in the long term. It's also a great way to show camper-keepers their place in the field. And let's not forget about the usefulness of a kamikaze run, where the smoke impedes the attacker's vision. Long story short, not understanding demolitions equals to not understanding strategy. Edit: "Stay salty"? No thanks, that borders ridiculousness.
Hahaha and i actually like being demolished. It puts me back at my own goal ready with boost and a 100% right next to me. Sometimes its even faster then boosting yourself along the map xD
If you quick chat, “Thanks!” after being demo’ed, you’re inviting more for being triggered by it. If you’re good in net, you’re also more likely to be targeted by demos. Not just because you’re a good defender, but because you’re an easier target if you sit in net rather than rotate fluidly. Great video and topic
Basically demos are a if you're there to do it, you're there to do it. If you are chasing down somebody to get a demo, you're doing it wrong. My favorite part about doing demo plays is if the other team isn't mentally prepared, I will catch them trying to demo chase out of rage for easy goal opportunities.
I think the only way Demos are broken is that you can demo people that are going 0.0001 mph slower than you. There should be a speed difference requirement, not just a most puny of touches just because you are going "super sonic". Also the game is very dodgy on deciding who demos whom in 50/50 situations as its sometimes frontal hit and the faster going guy blows up. That is why I think this mechanic is broken.
ChadHHC86 Please, allow me to (unironically) add your saying to my "WordsOfUnendingWisdom.txt" file. Also, Sledge-senpai always also said: They cannot score if they're no more. They cannot save if they're in the grave.
I've focused more on doing useful demos in the last months and since then it is way harder for the enemy to demo me, especially when I'm in goal since I do the same thing and therefore know how I can counter my own tactics. So going for good demos is usefull for countering them too.
I always laugh when people say something like "why don't you go play ranked, if you're gonna demo?" or spam "Okay." etc... The best part is when they get bothered enough that they try to retaliate, but I dodge them over and over and we end up scoring off of it. I gotta be honest though: I and my opponents get random, unintentional demos all the time. It's kinda silly.
I don't mind strategic demos I think they are great and it does take skill to pull off the things Sledge and the like pull off. The only time I hate them is when you have someone constantly demoing your team or someone specifically singles you out the entire game. That's when the hatred builds up for me. Had one last night playing must have attempted a demo at least 20-30 times on just me. He was successful around 10 times or so but he'd do it when I was no where near the ball or on goal hitting me midfield or catching some boost and going back into the rotation. They still lost he wasn't effective other than annoying the shit out of our team as we won 5-2 but damn was it annoying.
My bumps and demo plays are the reason why I reached c1 ^^ the best feeling of the the world is when you make a long shot and bump two enemy cars in the air to clear the opponent goal from them. Then you got the control over everything in the Stadium 😎
In the beginning I hated versing demo players but nearing the 1000 hour mark I've come to appreciate them, they're using a mechanic I suck at to beat me and I can't blame anyone other than myself for it.
Thank you! Demos are part of the game, I'm in Gold3/Plat1 right now and people still apologize for doing a demo/rage for being demoed, even when it's accidental. If it would be cheap or easy, everyone would do it more frequently.
A good demo is a good demo. I don't mind when people use them. The only type of person that only goes for demos and never go for anything else. If they use demos tactically, then I don't mind.
I think of demos like picks in basketball. I'm not surprised higher level players are using it more. Positioning is such an important part of RL, so demos and bumps are just as important by taking the opponent out of position.
Ohhh my god. That first 20 seconds. I haven't laughed like that in awhile nor identified so hard. Especially as the guy doing the demoing. I also have a cold which meant it was incredibly painful but.. worth it!
Me and my pals actually "train demos" if there's waiting time between rounds. Not to get better, just for fun. But it makes it a lot easier to appreciate a good demo play when you see it, when you at least know what kind of prediction is needed for some of them ✌🏼
I dont mind a good demo. I docare about demos if theyre just randomly thrown around when in just driving around. Also when they demo me they dont have the “skill” to make a good play out of it because i am back and still save the ball. Also i have had enough time that I went headfirst onto someone and they just got bumped away.. not fun
Demos are amazing. You can make plays with them or use them to get the enemy off his game. Demo the same guy a couple times I guarantee he’ll forget the ball and just chase you
Well Sunless. Ive done it. I have watched each video in the playlist. And the results? Well I suck at rocket league. But I suck a little less than before and more importantly I know why I suck, what I can work on, and how to work on it. So thank you, for making me realize that I, do in fact, suck at rocket league.
I think the situation that makes me mad is one where I clearly out skilled someone in an aerial play, they get salty and demo me well after I've passed the ball on to my one of teammates. The wasted an opportunity to be an extra set of wheels to defend against the attack simply because he had to come back around and get revenge for outplaying him. Now, in a situation where I passed that ball to my teammate and this same guy happens to land near a big boost pad, sees my teammate b line it for the open goal while his other teammate is going for the clear. He can use that boost to demo my teammate to avoid a flick or fake. That would be a valid play. Then you have people who turn to demoing all of the time just to keep us out of commission and ruin the fun because they lost the last game and wanted a rematch...
I just love that people complain for demos when I don't go out of my way for them, when either its on rotation or in a 2v1, and most of the times in a 1v2 when I'm in net, people fail to get the demo or fail the shot so many times 😂
Also demo's are too inconsistent. I've rammed plenty of players in supersonic state and just pushed them in front of my car. I've also seen players not even close to supersonic state ram 3 players in a row and just demo'ing them all. Both teams watched the replay and were like... WTF... It was my teammate who did it. We all stop playing for like 30 seconds and just talked about how fucking shitty that was.,.. We ended up giving them a goal to make it OT.. We lost.. But it was worth it (:
Demoing is op they would have to nerf it. Once me and my friend played with a coordinated team who only goes for demo, out of the 5 min we were only on the pitch for maybe 2 min the rest we were on the demo screen. Basically its unfair when defending a goal were you have to stand still or slow down to make an aerial , but the attacking team has all the momentum to come in and make a demo.
I think the demolitions are what really sold me on the game. And now that I'm quite a bit better, I like when you're obviously the lead player in the game, someone will start trying to take you out constantly. Which can usually be avoided with a little hop or something, and get good at waiting in your position while hopping and it's funny watching a guy flying at you and missing while the rest of the team gets the ball in and all I'm doing is avoiding a guy near the goal post. :D And so I've started doing that too. See someone at the goal ready to block, see the ball going their way for a play. *boom* Defense gone. But I don't know how many times I was trying to stop a ball goal and couldn't reach the ball but could reach the guy going for it, hit it only to have someone fly through the explosion and hit the ball anyway. Personally, I kind of like it because when in the heat of the moment at the other side's goal they explode you and you respawn next to a boost where you can snag and defend faster than driving to the other end of the arena. But... I'm not even a minute in, this might be discussed. :P

*So basically every Call of Duty player ever*
The only thing I dislike about demos is when your teammate disconnects and you're left in a 1v2. Then having someone on the opponents team *only* go for demos on you.
I think just going for demos is cheap and dirty but there is definitely a tactical way to do it as at times I do it to help out my teammates

Go stop the ball
2) I don't see the merit.
Overall if you think its dirty your bad its very easy to dodge demos. also watch the video it explains a lot better than me
Ever since I saw pros using demos for goals I started trying to implement it, and it has set our team up for some easy plays.
one of the most satisfying types of goals is hitting the ball with moderate pace towards the net and then driving in front of the ball and demoing the defender in the net, especially if you correctly predict that they are going to jump over you and adjust accordingly to hit them in the air.
It's funny, you wouldnt hear people complaining if everyone could actually utilize demos well.
The duration of the video is 9:11, OKEY SUNLESS, OKEY
The fact that this series is actually making me improve is amazing, love the content!
A skilled demo is not the problem. Someone commiting to get as many demo's as possible in the whole match is the problem.
"I'm going to be bringing back the suckless challenge, where you need to get demo's-"
*BREAKING NEWS: SALT PERCENTAGE FOR ROCKET LEAGUE PLAYERS ARE GOING THROUGH THE ROOF!*
What have we done? Hopefully you guys try it in casual first.
I was just making a joke on how Rocket League players don't appreciate demo's and find it scummy instead of a useful tactic.
I know but I did talk to Sunless about the possible fallout of making a suggestion like this lol.
Name Checks Out.
I have some good ones how to post
Never ever EVER stop making these video Khan. And to you Sledge.... gg
This is so me lol. I have 15k demos and didn't know anyone had more than me until now. Nice one, Sledge!
All this being said. I think RL would be a lot more epic without demos ever existing. Think of all the creative ways to bump! And all the creative ways to recover from bumps!
Why I suck at rocket league. 1. I'm old..42. 2. Oldness comes with poor hand/eye coordination. 3. Arthritis sucks. 4. Hard to concentrate with the old lady nagging me to take out the trash. I'll never get out of diamond..well back to plat maybe. Good vids bud.

It's a ubiquitous feeling definitely, trust me even if you have time on other things as well as making time for RL you can always get out of your rank!
My buddy and I use above average demos successfully quite a bit, and around Platinum we have had few matches where losing opponents complimented our demos. “Wow those demos tho. “ An overtime loss and these guys said “Nice Demos!” It was quite refreshing to be respected instead of screamed at.
What if it was saracasm? Back to being depressed :(
Chase Stevenson who said I wasn’t depressed? I’m a G3 Rocketeer cause I suck at rocket league.
I like the fact that you include the rizzo demo goal. Because, if you've ever watched his stream, I don't think there's any pro who gets more irritated at demos than he does.
Ugh, it's the people who use the "hit the ball" mechanic that piss me off. That's totally broken, because I can't hit the ball to save my life.
I hit other cars more frequently than I hit the ball
Why block the ball when you can block a player amiright
*Skill*
all these things are true, but you never considered the lower level players, for a silver or bronze a demo is very hard to dodge and can be used to literally make the game unplayable for a lower ranked person.
6:06 “You guys won with physiological warfare”
Just wanna point out that jumping above a car isn't always the most efficient way to dodge a demo. Myself and a lot of other players learned to time that jump and still manage to demo people in the air.
0:05 YOO IS THAT MA BOI MOZZ!? :D
I've absolutly become a huge fan of Sledge's and whenever I pull off a Demo Play to score I always say that Rocket Sledge would be proud ... hope you are Man ^^
:D
Valid game mechanic on a physics-based game, as it is extreme physical play on most of ball sports.
Complaining about demolitions or bumps equals to a severe lack of skill and incapability of assuming it as such, therefore never improving in the long term.
It's also a great way to show camper-keepers their place in the field.
And let's not forget about the usefulness of a kamikaze run, where the smoke impedes the attacker's vision.
Long story short, not understanding demolitions equals to not understanding strategy.
Edit: "Stay salty"? No thanks, that borders ridiculousness.
As a goal keeper myself, I completely agree. Gotta keep us honest, and if the keeper is incapable of dodging then they are the one that is unskilled.
Hahaha and i actually like being demolished.
It puts me back at my own goal ready with boost
and a 100% right next to me. Sometimes its even faster
then boosting yourself along the map xD
If you quick chat, “Thanks!” after being demo’ed, you’re inviting more for being triggered by it.
If you’re good in net, you’re also more likely to be targeted by demos. Not just because you’re a good defender, but because you’re an easier target if you sit in net rather than rotate fluidly. Great video and topic
4:07 "If you are someone in RL who complains about demos... I was secretly hoping that he said git gud
Rocket sledge probably doesn't have the most demo's out of all players in the game, but i bet he has the most effective demo's in the game
I've always said sometimes you play the ball sometimes you play the player.
ChadHHC86 Please, allow me to (unironically) add your saying to my "WordsOfUnendingWisdom.txt" file. Also, Sledge-senpai always also said:
They cannot score if they're no more.
They cannot save if they're in the grave.
Lovely video. Glad to see Sledge getting the limelight he deserves for his different playstyle :D
I've focused more on doing useful demos in the last months and since then it is way harder for the enemy to demo me, especially when I'm in goal since I do the same thing and therefore know how I can counter my own tactics. So going for good demos is usefull for countering them too.
That's correct. Understanding good demo opportunities allows you to recognize when YOU are in danger of being demo'd.
Were not saying that it doesn’t take skill we’re saying that it’s annoying and it pisses everyone off
I think of demos like picks in basketball.
Also i have had enough time that I went headfirst onto someone and they just got bumped away.. not fun
I've used demos to save plays a few times, it made me feel slightly guilty but also a little proud of myself for thinking of it so fast.
Demos aren't nearly as annoying as the alternative: getting smacked halfway across the field
Demos are amazing. You can make plays with them or use them to get the enemy off his game. Demo the same guy a couple times I guarantee he’ll forget the ball and just chase you
Woody watching this
Sunless: 23,000+ demos
Woody: I am 15 exponentials ahead of you
Well Sunless.
The beginning of this video has me dead lmao nice😂
Same😂😂
I just love that people complain for demos when I don't go out of my way for them, when either its on rotation or in a 2v1, and most of the times in a 1v2 when I'm in net, people fail to get the demo or fail the shot so many times 😂
I always think of a quote from days of thunder " rubbings racing" aka demo and bumps are their for a reason
That intro is so fucking funny

What have you done. You opened the floodgates to demos in games.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A video about demos is 9:11 in time lol just realized 😤
And when your victim says "Wow!" Or "Thanks!" After a demo, you know who to target
