I'm C3 and a lot of these tips I know, but still can't get my brain to commit to all of them in the fast pace of the game. It's still great to have someone remind me so I can try making all of them muscle memory. Unless your SSL, no reason to skip over your content. Thx Spook
Repeat the process with a new habit each time.
It could even be 'ive been doing flip resets in Freeplay. But I never go for them in games'. So you que games constantly going for flip resets. Until you're comfortable that you can go for one whenever you want.
Choose one thing to ensure you focus on each game. Trying to implement a lot of new ways of thinking all at once is hard. But focusing only on, for instance, ensuring that you don't commit to going for a ball where the opponent clearly has you beat, something I struggle with, and not worrying about any other mistakes really helps. Humans generally do really well at focusing on one thing at a time, so it's the most efficient use of time to try to do that whenever possible. And this even goes for things outside of Rocket League as well.
@@nexus1g if you're still struggling. You didn't learn the lesson. Or you failed to isolate where and why you're going when you're beat.
A possible cause. Maybe you're still focusing on playing/winning games instead of isolating just the behaviour you need to change.

I've seen so many tutorial videos where it was mentioned that holding jump and then flip is better, and it was always obvious that it's right. However, this is the first time I actually found out that holding jump actually EXTENDS the flip window. Great stuff Luke! Thank you so much!

I always play with my friend, together we went from mid gold to low diamond over like a year or so. Not too much progress, sure, but we’re having fun and every step forward is a step forward to be proud of

I was solo queing in a gold lobby as a gold suddenly coming across a silver that could air dribble, flip reset, speed flip on kickoff and wall dash FLAWLESSLY!!! WHATS GOING ON HERE?!?!?!?!?!

About the defense i think its even better to learn this than attacking first, obviously its more satisfying to score goals but the fact that everyone want to be that one guy is a problem and an advantage too, i started by learning and practicing defense instead of attack so yeah i can miss alot of scoring opportunities but i rarely fail to defend, i have 40h and i am currently p3/d1, i now need to practice my attacking skills and especially my ball control but being a good defender knowing than most of my teammates will be able to attack anyway is an advantage when in the ennemy team they both can't defend correctly (and they can't in plat/low diamond)
And it also resulted as improving alot of things that will help for attacking so it's even more a win, i will take less goals + improve more since i will almost always be the defender -> more occasions to defend = more improving
Basically the same on me, not too many skilled to make great attacks but I'm always doing epic saves and centering the ball, still make some good goals

I just realized how many mistakes i was making without even realizing it, i knew i had bad habits, but i never realized the things i thought were good were not beneficial. Though still probably end up solo queuing cause my friends dont play rl.

Honestly another thing I notice when I defend in aerials, I just tend to try to pretend i’m trying to score on my own net… I usually miss my goals and it helps lol

For plat I would say as a c1 which might unqualify me but I got through plat by learning how to shoot and play behind my teammate rather than next to them also stop hitting the ball from your corner to the other corner as it gets the ball right in front of your goal
Just hit the ball stronger and work on recoveries
In response to #2, I am diamond and can't shoot for shit, but my defense is pretty solid... I usually have more saves than shots, and my shadowing and bumping to stop a push are both pretty solid... I just can't handle the pressure most of the time when I have a chance to shoot and end up tensing up and choking...

Practice shooting packs then and gain confidence and skill
Being totally honest. If it wasn’t for spook, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I haven’t payed for the course but just these videos help so much.

As a champ, the only mechanic i’ve ever practiced is defense. The best shot i’ve ever hit are good 50s and angles. I highly recommend using defensive mechanics more than offensive.

I find that when I am kicking off and my team mate "cheats up," if they can't get the ball in the mid-field, than we're both stuck without boost and chasing back to the goal to play defense. Kind of an annoying tactic that I guess works at the higher ranks but I feel like I get a lot of goals scored on me when my team mate "cheats up."
Peaked gc2 last season, lost motivation this season and currently gc1 again. Im getting back to rocket league again!

In truth, many elements from Rocket League coincide with football/soccer. If you understand the sport's basic rules and can read the game, it definitely helps you in many situations.
Take "shadow defending" for example. In football, when you're a defender in a 1v1 situation, you don't wanna rush your decision. Instead, you wanna stay frontal with the attacker and just follow his movement waiting for the moment to strike
But there are some things which are completely different from football, like back post defending.

Hey! Thanks for all the great videos. I know I am late to the party but just tried Rocket League for the first time about a month ago. I think I’m addicted but wow do I suck! Trying to apply your advice from your channel. Overthinking a lot too. Trying to learn ball cam better right now. Could use some encouragement because I don’t want to give up on the game but I am tired of going to bed angry most nights lol.
If you’re noticing that you get frustrated, stop playing. The angrier you get, the more mistakes you’ll make, the more you lose, the angrier you get, etc. It’s all about fun!
Is there a good backboard defense training pack? Because I try to train defense but can find many packs.
Give this one a try, there is a UA-cam to guide you as well, it was a bit too hard for me but seems like a good beginning for people who wants to get better at backboard :

This video, your air dribble one and the double jump video honestly upped my game to a point I'm now just trash verus rubbish.
Question unrelated to ranking… in free play or free train, I can’t really play as the “shoot ball” option is L1 and I have my boost bound to L1… anyway to turn off the “shoot ball”, “start dribble”, etc.?

Yes, but instead you will watch 3rd man zoom past you and rush into the double commit

Don’t sit anywhere should always be rotating. Putting pressure on the opponent! A lot of this is for 2s
I’ll boost toward the ball and completely miss it lol and when I have a clear shot at the goal I again boost nd smack the ball to hard md bounce it off the backboard lol

whenever i solo queue i always go on a losing streak and now i know why.
Something to consider. All the solo quers at your rank got there without comms, cooperation or a consistent team mate. Theyre more skilled and adaptable than you are. So your rank will drop when you have to play them on even terms.

@@derricktherick1291 not committing in opponents corners, picking up pads more instead of going far away for big boost so that u can stay in the play, rotating back post when u can (and picking up pads on the way), and this just takes practice but judging how far u should be from the ball when a play is happening: like if the ball is barely moving and the play is super slow when ur tm8 and an opponent are on the ball, then u can be close to the play bc it’s not like the ball is gonna fly over ur head or be boomed away. On the other hand, if the ball is moving quickly and the play is happening fast when the opponent and ur tm8 are on the ball, then u should be positioned further away ready for the ball to be hit hard somewhere. So those things all helped me rank up a bit, sorry if that was confusing but yeah 😁

I can't practice in freeplay because I use bumpers to air roll and bumpers reset or move the ball and on ps4 you can't change those buttons
I played in a 2v2Tornamaunt I did all of these correctly and still lost to toxic people in the final which the semiconductor game was so unfair as I was a 1v2
