- My favourite schooling fish is the tiger barb. This video is the complete care guide for tiger barbs. Tiger barbs do better with specific tank mates. I'll also tell you how to determine the gender of tiger barbs and maybe breed them too!

This is a cool video on tiger barb, complete guide for someone who wants to keep them. Highly informative video mate
I enjoyed watching... thank you for sharing this video. Keep it up! Happy Fish Keeping!
Great video Ron! I’ve been real curious about tiger barbs for a while. I love the way they look with clown loaches.
Jeremy's Wild Studio they tend to bring the clown loaches out in the open too 👍
That's a wonderful tank right there! Thanks for the upload! :)
Thanks very much!!!
Great info on these guys! Thanks for sharing Ron!
Learning To Fish Keep thanks Kam
All good stuff Ron. Tank and fish look great 👍
Caylor's Aquatics I appreciate that Bob
Great species spotlight man. Tiger barbs are super cool fish.
Thanks! Really appreciate it
Great info on these potential little terrors!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge great facts thumbs up 👍
i've had two tanks with tiger barbs and have never had any problems with mixing in other fish. they never nip and are the most personable of all fish out there.
I agree, just began a 130 gallon tank mixed with panda barbs, gold barbs and rainbow fish, have seen no aggression or nipping, soon will be putting in Pygmy cory cats and otocinclus and I think they’ll leave them alone , I think people overthink this stuff with a lot of fish lol
And of course I have 7 or 8 tiger barbs in the tank as well
Awesome information my friend!
In my beginning days I put a few of these in with a beautiful angle fish. I had to go to work and figured everthing would be ok. They made short work of him. Damn little fin nippers.
Great video and thank you 😊 for the lovely pice of information ℹ️
FishBy Mike glad u liked it!
Nice! I've always been too worried about the nipping being a problem to get tigers but I like them a lot!
Fun Fishology they are very active and fun to watch
Always wanted a tank full of these guys
That tank is looking so healthy man💪
Rob 93 Aquatics thanks Rob 👍
Awesome video! I love tiger barbs. New sub!
Thanks very much!!!
I really like the albino ones, don’t know that I’ve ever seen them by me. Good stuff as always Ron
Wild Fish Tanks oh really. If I could figure out how to ship to the USA, I’d send u some
great video very informative 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice info on a beautiful fish! awesome video!
GoldFish Tank thanks very much! Glad u enjoyed it
@@FridayFishFacts You're welcome!
I'm not getting notifications again great video good info there's a lot of fish you see recommended in sixers don't understand where that all came from but that's lfs for you💥😝👈🏼
JustMyFish just going off my own experience, totally agree Wayne
Hi Ron, that is a nice video and a beautiful tank you have there. I am planning to get Tiger Barbs as well and put them into a 240l tank. How big is your tank? They fit perfectly into it!
Great info Ron. I love tiger barbs I haven’t gotten any yet. But maybe one day
Angelo's Fish Tanks if you know what you’re getting into, you’ll love them
Nice video 😊🍃🙋
Had a tiger barb in 10 gallon community tank years ago in hawaii that would nip the others. Roommate would cut half of its tail off. Worked until the tail grew back. It would hide any time net in the water. The neon tetras in there used to jostle each other too.
Tiger barbs are great!
Nice barb , in my village in Central Borneo Indonesia we have to,like snakeskin barb, tiger barb,t-barb and many more ❤️ 👍.
Lets we support each other to conservate all kind wild barb 🙏
I remember as a kid, I think it was around when I was 12? Or maybe younger! We had a 20-25 gal, sized tank. We had goldfish, tetras, an albino catfish and the shy sucker fish. But the best thing was mixed with two beautiful, I mean holy god Dwarf Gourmai (Silver-blue, with a whitish coloration on their back-fins and friendliest personalities). I remember these things as literally, you could pet them if they were willing to come to ya. I loved the beautiful fish as a kid, to see them catch that light and clear water, I fondly remember them nibbling on your fingers and they 'knew' when food came since it was a hidden joke in our household. Pet the fish, feed them and they'd follow your finger for fun...
But then either my mother, or I think my sibling saw 'those' damned Tiger Barbs. Oh god, I don't hate the fish but I do have a bitter sweet realization they killed one Gourmai... fins were shredded and those 'whiskers' were cut in places. I'd say they were a mated pair and next day, two (Tigers) of them were belly up after we removed it. I have never heard of a Gourmai being that furious, but the small school basically left that one alone...forever. Let me tell ya, if I knew what I knew then as I do now? I miss those fish, but the Barbs are no joke, I'm grateful you're doing this video. But I don't expect to have them anytime soon, call it bias or regret, although seeing them not harassing other fish is just me accepting it was a mistake in my childhood.
I have made many mistakes myself. A large group of tiger barbs “usually” keep to themselves. Gourmai’s can often hold their own as well. Appreciate the comment!
I have got 16 tiger barbs in 46 gallon tank but I tried to pair it up with bid size silver dollar fish but as soon I put them there the small tiger barbs started to nip their fins as a result I had to finally put all of them out!
Your right I put only 9 tigers in a 29 gallon tank and they slowly picked each other off til I had 6.
So Now with 11 tigers in there only, they are not dropping in numbers.
I only have tigers in there, no other species of fish.
It’s working well with 11 so far 6 months in.
I have 40 barbs in a well planted 75 gal.
For the first 3 months they got along fine but now the aggression has gotten so bad a third of the fish have torn tail fins and I had to isolate one of them because half of his tail is gone.
Can somebody please tell me what I’m doing wrong?
I mixed 2 bettas with tiger barbs. In a heavily Planted tank. Bettas need and naturally have really good top cover
I’m finding that the pet store employees definitely did not advise me correctly on care of these! They told me 3 of these in a 5 gallon tank would be alright! Definitely going to adjust :/ thanks for the info
Awesome!
liked and subbed.
ReinhardvonHolst thanks very much! I really appreciate it
I bought 6 Tiger Barbs (as you said thats what usually recommended) for my 105 gallon community tank. One of the guys died when he got stuck behind the breeder cage (which is where he used to sleep). So now I got 5 in a 105, should I get more?
I would. I like to have at least 10
I have 9 tiger barbs in 10 gallons is that ok?
I’m still debating whether I should put them in with an adult koi angelfish, 3 juvie Datnoids, an adult electric blue acara and juvie black ghost fish. 65 gallon grow out tank. I have 10 tiger barbs in qt. Should I do it??
Since you already have them, why not give it a try? You can always put them back in your qt tank right? I’m sure they’d be fine with the datnoids and acara. You just might have to watch them with the angels
What’s the fancy metal prong your courgette was stuck on ?
A highball stir stick 😄
I have 8 and there great
Awesome!
I have 37 in a 15 gallon long they look awesome schooling
I bet that looks cool!
I have Green barb, Rosy barb, albino barb and tiger barbs in my tank
Mine are brething through their mouths , whats wrong?
I've bought 3 barbs. Put them in a tank with 14 other fish. I've had zero problems
What size is this tank? I am planning on doing a tiger barb centered tank and I'm not sure on the number I could keep in a 125 gallon. Any tips? The rest of the fish in the tank will be a rainbow shark and a small school of corydoras.
Mine is a 220 gallon. But a 125 would be great. What type of cories?
@@FridayFishFacts I was thinking panda cories. But it depends on if I can find them locally.
Beautiful
Had 2 then he ate the other one but now it j Him and 2 comet goldfish in a 30 gal tank they’re doing pretty good so far
Would corydoras work with tiger barbs in a 29 gallon?
Hebrewhammer305 probably but your cories won’t be very active. I have petricola catfish with my tiger barbs and they do great. I have six types of cories right now in various tanks. They will only breed if they have very peaceful tank mates and they’re much more active
Thanks for the informative video! I need some help with my aquarium please. I want to know if I can add a school of around 16 or 20, well grown, tiger barbs to my aquarium. I have a 132 gallon with a tire track eel around 35 cm, 12 clown loaches and a large leopard pleco. It is un-planted with a lot of driftwood. I'm looking for a suitable schooling fish that enjoys the fast moving water like the other fish, and I've seen how well they do with clown loaches, and their shape isn't elongated for the eel to fit in its mouth, when they have grown a lot of course. I've read a lot of conflicting posts in forums where people say that tiger barbs are fine as long as they are in a large school, people saying the barbs killed the person's eel, the barbs harassing the eel, and people saying that it will work if the tiger barbs are large enough and are in a large shoal. Excuse the long message, just wanted to provide as much info from my side for you to look at.
EDIT: The seven years I have had with my eel has taught me that if it fits, it eats. Hence why I like the shape and active behaviour of the tiger barb.
Fe_Man thanks for commenting! Everything sounds good. But I don’t have any experience with eels. From what I’ve read, the tiger barbs May nip them
@@FridayFishFacts Thanks for replying! I wish there was another pretty schooling fish that has that shape and likes the type of setup I have. Oddball tank problems lol
How many can I keep in a 36 gallon? Also are there any tank mates that can go with them in my size of tank? I want ally fish to be happy.
10-15. You could do some bottom dwellers like cories. And a pleco or two
@@FridayFishFacts thank you!
I have 3 and they behave
bro thanks so much for this video loving my barbs in my 29 gallon, but i have 4 cory cats that i rescued from a horrible keeper they were fine now they pick on the 2 albinos more than the 2 green ones
How many tiger barbs do you have? Maybe you just need to add a few more 😉
Friday Fish Facts i have 8 barbs they're so cool
I have tiger barbs, serpae tetras, harlequins and one bristle nose. I can't feed the bristle noise algae wafers because the tigers are eating machines. I can't stick my arm in there without the tigers trying to eat at it. I want to add 3 more tigers, tetras and harlequins but I'm afraid the tigers will go after the new fish. Should I try and remove all the tigers and then add the fish and add the tigers after?
The tigers definitely won’t go after the new tigers. The other new fish they might chase at first and stress them out. As far as the bristlenose goes, try feeding after the lights are out
@@FridayFishFacts Thanks for the info! When I added 8 serpaes one of the smaller ones had his whole tail fin nipped off by the tigers and only made it a few days. After about 2 days the serpaes became comfortable and everything's good now. Those tigers are a little crazy.
I've got a 55 gallon tank with 20 tiger barbs of different sizes and colors, I love them. They don't seem aggressive at all. The only problem I'm having is the tiger barbs eating all of the food for my poor corys. Even when I feed the corys at night when the tank lights are off the barbs just swarm the sinking food. I'm worried that the corys aren't getting enough to eat.
You can try some veggies. I know the tiger barbs will eat it too, but it will last awhile in the water
@@FridayFishFacts Good idea, I'll give that a try tomorrow😊 The pellets and wafers just disintegrate, vegetables will definitely last longer.
I recently added about a dozen albino tiger barbs to my 55 gallon with 1 firemouth cichlid, jewel turquoise cichlids, yo-yo loaches and clown loaches (Because they were nipping my platies to the point they’d hide) now there’s only one. Did I send them to an early grave? 😔
KS Aquatics firemouth should be ok. Not sure about the jewel though. My buddy put a few with his and it was a massacre. I’d still check your water parameters
How many tiger barbs can i stock in a 40 gal?
Depends on filtration and what else is in the tank, but 20 is a good number
Super new hobby for me I just got a 60 gallon tank and I have 9 tiger Tiger barbs do I need more in that size tank or am I good
The more the merrier
@@FridayFishFacts what other fish you good mates for the tiger barbs
@@grandmofftarkin4762 slow moving, long fin fish are the worst. Rainbowfish are great.
How many would be good for a 37 gallon
If that’s all that’s in the tank and you have good filtration, 15-20
How long it takes to know if my barb is pregnant?
Well technically they don’t get pregnant. They scatter eggs
If seen some albinos that tempted me before
They’re pretty cool Jay
How come nobody mentions platinum green tiger barbs? They're amazing!
They are cool. I’ve actually never seen them in person
What is the size of that tank?
220 gallon
Hmm never thought of giving them cucumbers
It's a courgette
I have a same tiger barb like yours... And i have to take them out of my bigger aquarium and put them on 5 gals aquarium... I have no choice but to put them ther.. b'coz its destroying all the tail and fins of my other fish on my biger aquarium..😕
Lloydbryan Balanon maybe you can sell them to you LFS. Even if it’s just for credit
my tiger barb is lying down is it a problem
Ya. I would check your water asap
Please can i get the list of all fishes uh have i your aquarium.
Here is a video of the tank with the fish, mostly clown loaches, rainbowfish, archers, petricolas and fancy plecos. ua-cam.com/video/Hnh-V7pVBek/v-deo.html
Thanks a lot👍
I need a video on schooling fishes ... and the tank setup
This is how I set up my 220 gallon ua-cam.com/video/HI2VtkFvh8g/v-deo.html
Nice tank. What size you say?
It’s a 220 gallon
After a lot of trial and error, I've discovered that Tiger Barbs and Serpae Tetras make perfect tank companions...because they're both a-holes.
Brian Sweany hahaha true that. I had serpae tetras when I was a kid
I have 7 each in a 29-gallon tank right now, and they actually school together. Meanwhile my three corys hide under the log all day suffering from PTSD.
Lol
I used to think cories were boring. Now I keep a bunch of different species with appropriate tank mates and they’ve become one of my favourite fish
Took me a long time to appreciate them too. As a kid growing up I always had the one requisite cory in my 10-gallon tank to hoover the place. Then one day my aquarium store manager said to me that they're really a schooling fish. Never have less than three now, but I have a situation with the barbs. Might need to just plop the cories in my 5-gallon quarantine tank and let them live in peace. They poke their heads out during feeding time and then hide under the log the remainder of the day. I also have a couple banded plecos that are useless. I thought they were dead at one point because they NEVER come out. They stick underneath the driftwood and ignore the algae.
Hey Ron, so you have a betta cross breed with a pirhana .😆
Joe Munoz lol so true
One day I will have another tiger barb tank! 😀
MyHecticLifePets I hope u do!
I have 2 green tiger barbs and 3 tiger barbs they never fish nip
I kinda want a tank of just green tiger barbs or albino lol
SOS!!!!! 911!!!!!
I have a 50 gal tank with 16 tiger barbs. They used to be together with guppies and plates but about a month ago I bought a 44 gal for my livebearers since they were about to go gave fry and didn't want the tigers to eat the fry, when they were all together it was awesome rhey would school around and constantly moved around.... however when I removed my livebearers the tiger barbs whent into contact hiding, they are now shy always hiding under the plants they no longer roam around the tank looks reallt empty.... water quality is good i feed variety of foods bloodworms, flake food, i even tried to make my own food at home for them but still can't get them to come out like before.... the only time they come out and go crazy is feeding time they are like piranhas... please if anyone has any advice please let me know, I miss seeing them roam rhe tank and be that beautiful showpiece they once were..... idk if the tank is too big for them or what but I have tried everything to make them feel comfortable, I added plants for them to hide in and left big open space for them to swim freely and nothing seems to work. Also their colors have dimmed as if stressed, i tried medication for parasites or bacteria changed around their diet changed the water i just dont know what to do.
I would get your water tested. That is unusual behaviour for tiger barbs. They are susceptible to internal parasites, so watch for that too
@@FridayFishFacts ITS SUPER UNUSUAL!!! I just tested the water ph is at 7.2. And the temp is at 78...... i might just try and rearrange the tank and add some Danios to swim around and hopefully stimulate the tiger barbs if they see other fish in the tank swimming around.... idk if removing the other fish affected them since they were together since the tank was setup... but it was so weird that the day I removed them they became scared and shy....
Ron Desantis?
10 barbs in a 20 gallon? I dont get it. All the other videos and care guides say 20 gal for only 6. If you wanted 10 you'd prob have to go 30 or even 40 gallons.
I started mine in a 20. Bigger is better in this case. But make sure you’re keeping up on water changes and have the right amount of filtration
You should not have 10 tiger barbs in a 20 gallon tank! You can have groups of 5-7 tiger barbs!
My tetras are more aggressive
10 in a 20?? That's not too much?
