Yea, there's something about this song. When sung well, it hits you like nothing else. It's as if the writer were in touch with something divine. It harmonizes with some deeper part of us. I've considered it is something like the powerful traits of a soul represented in an arrangement of sound. The will, perseverance, determination, belief, overcoming, strength, courage, faith, purpose, etc. It moves me every time its sang from the heart, and I really think the human voice gives us a glimpse of something fundamental, profound, yet not understood.

It’s not trolling to point out this was pre-recorded. Whitney, without doubt one of the best singers of the last 50 years, was not making the sound that you hear at the same time as the video was recorded. Back then, monitoring and sound reinforcement (the speakers) was a lot more hit and miss than it is today - timed arrays were just being worked on in the lab and digital processing was mostly limited to echos and reverb with anything more complex, such as feedback squashing, not ready for prime time TV. The choice to use a pre-record was fairly standard in those days because the chance of a technical problem was much higher. I’m sure Ms Houston would have been fine, probably even if she couldn’t hear her own voice. She was that good, very few people can do that without going off pitch but a selected few who really know their vocal cords can and Houston may well have been one of them. But there’s also a whole orchestra behind her. Even if they just played back the orchestra and she sang live the chance of a show stopping problem (the orchestra is in front of the mic, it would have bled into the vocals and conflicted with the voice - I doubt orchestral players could have mimed convincingly without actually playing, even if you weren’t intended to hear them ) is too high to risk it.
Unbelievable vocal range, nothing will top her rendition of the national anthem. We were at war when she sang it, liberating Kuwait, and Whitney sang this perfectly. Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson had God’s vocal cords.
This should just be the official version of the National Anthem & it should be played every time we stand up & put our hand over our heart. Nothing ever has, nor ever will, top this. ❤ we miss you, Nip.
Might as well since even the vocal for THIS performance wasn't live. It was recorded the week before. So might as well just play this vocal and let everyone lip sync along to it.
After that gal butchered this at the Home Run Derby I needed this - NO ONE, NO ONE will ever sing the National Anthem like this again. This is a one-off. Whitney Houston had a talent that defies any real description. Opera singers studied her because they wanted to understand her breathing techniques and to Whitney it all just came naturally. This performance was a special moment. Few things will never be topped but this is one.

As a non American and unbiased. I’d be pretty confident in saying the American National Anthem will never be sung that well again. When you look at how female artists perform today. Except Chris Stapelton
@@spotcat44 he couldnt even top the skinny charts
THE BEST EVER bar none. This recording is a National treasure for the ages...
100% truth
The best ever done!!! Epic 😢
Whitney Houston will be remembered for her amazing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner even hundreds of years from now 🇺🇸🕊️
Her voice will be heard for future generations to come
She sang the national anthem with such patriotism and love, best performance for the national anthem EVER!
Unbelievable vocal range, nothing will top her rendition of the national anthem. We were at war when she sang it, liberating Kuwait, and Whitney sang this perfectly. Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson had God’s vocal cords.
SUPERB FACTS !!! VOCAL RANGE IS INCREDIBLE!!!! IT GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS
@@englishorchard-haze4708 She still sang it? Its her voice, it being pre-recorded doesn't affect her amazing range
100%❤️❤️❤️
Love your comment ❤
What a voice and what a beautiful woman. No one will ever sing the NA like Whitney did, I don't care who sings this song. They will never, ever do better than Ms. Whitney herself. Rest in peace our Sweet Angel.❤
I remember watching this live. Whitney’s vocal talent will never be matched. She was a natural. She didn’t even try. She will forever be a legend.
She was do effortless with it
She's miming to a pre-recorded track.
@@paula3124 still her voice and she could have done without but was required to sing it that way.
@@paula3124 You have got to be kidding me?! Why would you even say that? I watched the documentary about how she orchestrated every beat and every note. She fought with the NFL to sing it to five beats instead of four. I try to be kind on social media, but you are exactly the type of person that I want to be unkind to!
@@juliecolson4030 you just don't want to know the truth, & the truth is that she mimed. That's proven beyond doubt in this video...

As a non American and unbiased. I’d be pretty confident in saying the American National Anthem will never be sung that well again.
When you look at how female artists perform today. Letting sexuality get views instead of talent.
Whitney stood in a tracksuit and made one of the top 10 moments in music history. Effortlessly.
What a woman she was. Her looks as timelessly beautiful as her voice.
I don’t think women are generally scantily clad when singing the national anthem
Love your comment ❤
Who's here 2024 just to sheds some tears🤷🏿♀️🤷🏿♀️ I was 6 when she sung this in my hometown of Tampa and IM SO PROUD TO HAVE GROWN UP HERE IN TAMPA, FLORIDA JUST PRAY WE MAKE IT THROUGH THIS STORM COMING LOVE YOU ALL BE BLESSED
January 27th 1991 my birthday and the only time super bowl played on that day to this day.
Absolute powerhouse of a voice and the best rendition of our national anthem.
Best ever!!!!
Nobody has beat Whitney Houstons performance, don’t know that anyone ever will. Instant goose bumps and tears. Just beautiful
Props to Ricky Minor and his patriotic, dramatic arrangement, too!
I agree no one ever will
Crazy it was so effortless for her. This is by far the best national anthem performance EVER
She pulled of the lip sync well
@@jeffnelson1186 because she was actually singing at the event outside of the prerecorded version hope this helps….
She was truly in a league of her own.
Stop inviting anyone to sing and give it to mama whit whit. Yes call them out for the pitch but this is the best representation and rendition of this song and soul then anyone else ❤❤❤❤
She came she sang and she walked out like this wasn't even a challenge back in the days artist were in a different level
It wasn't a challenge because she lip-synced.
@@pabloduchen3842in the studio maybe it was. She recorded it in one take
Nobody will ever top this all-American performance!
Damn, Whitney could sing! Man they just don't make em like they used to! Best National Anthem to date, and she did it like it was nothing!
when I first saw this on TV, I was in Beijing after 1989 Tiananmen Massacre and desperately working so hard preparing my TOEFL and GRE exams to apply to American graduate schools. Ameirca was my ONLY hope back then. Whitney Houston's singing infilled so much power, strength and hope in my heart for America. After so many years it still gives me goosebumps. Thank you, Ms Houston for giving me the strength and power to plow through the hardship and strengthening my belief in America.
This is such a lovely comment! I can't imagine being in Beijing at that time.
Thank You for your courage❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Goosebumps! Miss ya Whitney! Love ya 2024
