Chet we put black beans in and we have to rev the combines right down well unloading same for grain cart and we use a belt auger into hopper bottom bins so they don’t crack but we farm in southern Manitoba and that is just what works for us
To answer your question Doug, its usually about 8 guys, 4 with guns 4 with wrenches... Depending on the brand of gun, we usually get a season or 2 out of a gun, doing 30+ bins a year of all sizes. If corded, even longer. We have got corded nut busters that have been used for the past 6+ years
USED TO BUILD THOES AND OUR JACKS WERE OUTSIDE THOUGH RESTING ON STEEL PLATES BOLTED TO THE EDGE OF THE STEM WALL..GIVING US ALOT MORE ROOM TO MANEUVER INSIDE.. AND YES VERY HOT INSIDE.. AS AN INSIDE GUY SWINGING STEEL WE WOULD PRAY FOR THAT PRECIOUS BREEZ WHEN WE LIFTED (ERECTED) FOR THE NEXT RING... QUICK WAS THE WORD , SHARP WAS THE ACTION...

Wow! Congrats of 54 years old Dougo! That's awesome! I never met anybody that old! I have SO much I need to ask you! What was it like farming back then? Did the dinosaurs do much crop damage? Was it exciting when they invented horses to pull the plow? Were the winters bad before they had fire? Was Sitting Bull really as hard to get along with as they say? Was it tough to keep crop records when you had to chisel them on stone tablets? When God created the Earth and rested on the Seventh day, did you take him fishing? Used to build grain bins. I did it for 4 years and never burnt up a impact gun. They would get hot hot hot but kept going. And it is fast pace.

i put up three 45,000 bushel Brock bins in 1977. I picked them up in Indiana on my truck and erected them in southern Illinois. Everything went together smoothly and the bolts came out to just a few left over. A great experience with Brock compared to other companies I had used.

I worked one summer while in high school putting up bins for $5 a day. Didn’t want to get stuck inside during the hottest part of the day. We used chain pulleys to lift them ring by ring. Got a lot of muscles that year.

Nice update on the bins and skid loader. The lower side draw sounds like it will be helpful in lower costs and wear and tear in the bottom auger.

Love to watch this part of farming, normally I only see the food at the store or gas at the pumps, but thanks for breaking it down to show us how hard it really is to get things to the ground and back to the public. As a West coast person we rarely see what it takes to get product done, and you all make it look easy when I watch you bust your butts to get it done. Thanks for sharing.

I remember when y'all were at the auction of that one farm and the stop at that tractor yard where Dougo reminisced about the past and farming in the 70's. Again we see another important part of farming, the planning of current storage with growth and how to play that into savings and strategy going forward. Not to mention what that new switch on the left does in the new bobcat.
Eric explaining the damage both the wet planting and dry growing seasons and how that affected the corn was awesome.
But it's easy to see Brody is doing all the work while the others are getting camera time, LOL!
