- We've finally got our hands on the new shape Ford Transit Custom and are really excited to share our thoughts with you on this new model both good and BAD!
Leave a comment with your opinions on the new model, is this an improvement or a step in the wrong direction for Ford?
I had an enterprise custom hire for around a month, and overall, I really liked it. I actually hired two different type and the limited version was the winner as it had a elbow rest!!
The cabin was a really great place to be, could spend the whole day in it!!
Screen was just a breath of fresh air, controls took a while to get used too and can be confusing but a million miles better than the old one! Sound system was great, good to take the good stuff out of the cars. Reversing camera is insane coming from an expert which is small and poor visual.
Mirrors where great coming from an expert.
Doesnt bouch around as it has coil suspension
Bad bits
Costs a small fortune and doesnt have 2 side doors, i dont get why they arent standard.
Barn door really fly about in the wind, moved open a couple of times in the wind, can see an update when the van gets reviewed as its not great!
Hinges look better but paint job not the best.
Some of the panels fit arent the best.
Mpg isnt great, 35mpg on average, Expert can get 45mpg if you want
Loud in the cabin compare to an Expert.
Overall
Its the best but if you on a budget the psa group stuff is ideal as its fine but still 35k with a bit of kit on it.
Custom will keep its value so maybe its worth the extra as it wouldnt actually cost much more to have a better van.
Wet belt is an issue but if you get it serviced every year should be fine, but ofcourse you never know!
Waiting for the high roof version as they are a great comprise but ford taking an age with release etc.
If you can get a good finance deal on a 150hp limited I would be interested!!
Hi. I am a Renault Trafic owner and interested in the new ford custom but I am worried that the van might be a lot wider for width restrictions and also less taller for storage then the remault and have less payload capacity. I would like to see a video on the 2 vans being compared for these reasons and quality etc. Just a thought as no videos oit yet on this comparison.
Too much focus on everything being on a touchscreen instead of a tactile 'feel'.
Being 'modern' doesn't necessarily mean better.
Sounds like they've taken out quite a bit and replaced it with less.
what about ground clearence, for my usage its really important but i couldnt find any info about that.
So where exactly are the front fog and cornering lights? Surely it does have at least fogs? Anybody own or driven one can tell me please?
I think the button is meant to prevent thieves from breaking in easily.
your compliment of not being repulsed by it should be part of Ford's marketing spiel
I'm having trouble with my 2020 L1 H1 90,000 amber adblue light & amber engine saying engine will stop in 456 miles every time I put fuel i do put adblue in enyone out there can help thanks
We are slowly receiving the Transits in Australia now. I agree with they shouldn't have removed all the dials, instead now on the screen. I drove the automatic today for the first time, seats were very comfortable, removing the hand brake no a good idea. The van being a automatic with the selection is on the RHS of the steering wheel, don't like it. The van I drove had the Barn doors, is that what you call it?. The panels takes a section of your view in your back window, so I will be sticking with the tailgate (full view of your rear window). I think this van is going to do very well here in Australia.
Such a shame all engines have gone down the Wet Belt route. Ive used Transit Customs for the last 20yrs doing 20 to 30k miles per year, and theyve been reliable workhorses. Now looking to change van again but my trusted mechanics have all said the same "Avoid the wet belt". They've had engines failing on clients at 60k and two weeks ago had a catastrophic engine failure at 44k. First warning the driver got of wet belt failure was when his brakes stopped working🫣 . These were all well maintained vehicles too. Now with Ford having recently reduced the wet belt change interval doesnt give me confidence in buying one knowing that even with good maintenance and correct interval belt changes you basically have an enegine playing Russian Roulette every time you turn it over. So now im struggling to find an alternative as I feel like I'm cheating on my previous Customs. FORD please bring back a reliable chaindriven engine.
Does it has a wet oil pump belt. Lots of transit engines failing due to wet belt problems
*Due to lack of maintenance
Yeh just watched all those videos These motors blow up I cant belive ford would go though all the troble of making new van and not change the wet belt problem I noticed its costs thousands to change the belt also if it dosent blow up first
The Wet Belt on going issue should be a Class Action lawsuit. I bought a Transit thinking it would be no real issue for 10 years but alas...............
Just change the belt when recommended. I can't see the issue.
Those back doors are 100% going to get blown in to traffic on a windy day.
well it wouldnt be too hard as a precaution to add a chain that cud be removed when wantin doors fully open !
As a tradesman I'm worried about the cup and bottle holders
No keyless entry from I can find out even though it has keyless start?
You can turn it on in the settings.
Looks good and the led headlights are definitely an upgrade over the previous candles! The heating controls in a screen is definitely a backwards step to me. The rear door aperture looks to have more intrusion than the last one.
Thanks for the comment Barry, good to hear from you. There are definitely some dubious changes but also some great enhancements on the new model. Looking forward to getting our hands on a few more
Baring in mind the old one didn’t have auto climate…. Constant adjustments needed.
Ford should just make the transit simple ..all the electronic noncence just make them more expensive and less appealing ..all us van owners just want a solid reliable van that dont cost a fortune to buy and maintain (wet belt ahem) ..is there even a high roof version of the new model??
I’ve had mine brand new since March, in total it’s been off the road in ford garage 7 weeks. Oil sensor had a break in wiring loom then aircon and heated windscreen wasn’t working needed new bcm module.
These parts aren’t on the shelf and were on back order which totalled 7 weeks the van was off the road. Other than that it blows the old model away
Looking forward to having the wind slam the rear door on my leg due to the removal of the safety stay. And that number plate light exposed housings just says "Cheap" and cosmetically is asking for an after market trim. Not a fan of electric hand brakes - not sure about the position of the switch either. Will probably miss the cornering/front fog lights. And that seat adjustment removal is a step backwards that I will miss. My biggest concern is have Ford finally made the custom more secure and harder to steal (Don't hold your breath). First impressions "MEH"
Thanks for the comment Jason, it definitely seems that some of my concerns are shared with other, time will tell with the new model
We got these type of doors on the Sprinters. Dangerous when you Park next to a Street and it quite hurts getting a door in your back
Got the new one, automatic version, prefer the old model, better looking for starters. Cab is infact bigger
Drivers seat in the new one is infinately better, along with the pedal positions. The electronic hand brake is super annoying because it does auto engage and disengage on the auto.
But, have they addressed the wet belt issue in the newer models? The so called 'kits' look atrocious on Customs.
Why would you have a button on the back, water ingress will cause it fail and no longer get into the rear, the reverse camera that low will also cause it to grim up from all the muck and spray, why didn’t they put it up near the top, are the wiper stalks on the indicators like a merc. I hate in screen controls, takes your focus away and if you have grubby hands (builder) or wearing gloves will they be able to operate the screen
I'm glad I wasn't the only one having these thoughts, time will tell if they'll work
A plus of the EPB (Electronic Park brake) is that it gets rid of the old mechanical park brake lever. Granted, on a van with a bulkhead, this doesn’t matter much, but on a bus, camper or van without a bulkhead, or a bulkhead with a walk through door, getting rid of the mechanical park brake lever improved the walk through from the front of the vehicle to the rear, this is a big plus.
You need to view Transit holistically, not just the particular model you are looking at.
Certainly a valid point worth considering especially if you are planning on adding a swivel base to your drivers seat as many will do on a camper conversion. Thank you for commenting
Auto climate control means I just set the temp. , probably won’t be using the screen for that much, but I get it. The old van didn’t have auto climate which drove me bonkers.
"Its just a Van" - a Car derived Van...!
It isn't car derived
I take it Ford have ditched the awful 2.0L ecoblue engine after the terrible wet belt?
No? Oh wow…
Biggest thing still the shitty engine needs a cam chain
Cost savings..
u get less and pay more
They’ve messed it up big time. How many mistakes can you make in one VAN
Drove transits but take my advice they fall apart with rust no matter how well you care for them.go Japanese
New transits don't rust. You must be thinking of the old ones.
It's a VW 🙈
Wrong! The 2025 transporter is a rebadged Ford transit custom built by Ford using all Ford components and engines
Wet belt timeing ,,guaranteed failure....dont buy rubbish 😢
Just change it when it's due. I can't see the issue.
@@gb5584exactly
Service regular or with the mileage you do
Iv had 3 band new over the last 9/10 years with work and have been absolutely faultless
Worse design, higher Price. 🥲
So many small setbacks. No physical controls for heater etc., worse cupholding overall, lower roof, no vanity mirrors or light there, worse side mirrors, doorhandles are not as good as before (not only the rear door handle), “Cooler” design that just makes it look like a stub-nosed Citroën van..
As much as I was expecting greatness from the VW/Ford collaboration, just as much I feel We have been let down.
Thanks for the comparison. Great video.
