Once the beat impresses someone you can always turn down things later when vocals are added. I use to leave too much head room where my beats were good on loud headphones and turned up but were quiet everywhere else.

for the beginning instead of using that master volume knob, what you could of done is record the whole segment as just a wav, then use a chop to keep that pause instant.
How to mix/master clipping 808s? Throwing soft clipper on master with 808 going into the red zones sounds just fine on headphones with that distortion but when i play it in the car it seems like they are blowing my speakers and it sounds bad, not a clean distortion if it makes sense.

The vocals end up sitting on top of everything anyway. You kinda want them loud that way the drums and stuff can punch through the vocals anyway.
