Answers to the most common questions in the comments are replied to in the description
Thank you to Jacob Kronen for all the video work, to Jazzbanditt for allowing me to use their music. And finally thanks to John William Haugland for letting me film his guitar being worked on and playing beautifully at the end. I hope you enjoy it.
    Music: Jazzbanditt - Don Thomas
    Lars Dalin
    Oslo, Norway
!CAUTION!: This video is not ment as a "how-to" instruction. Many elements and steps of the restoration has been left out and this video does not give a complete representation of what goes in to this kind of work. if you need similar work done I would strongly advice you to take it to an experienced professional and certainly not use this video as a "how-to" guide
    Most Common Questions:
What happened to the hole you drilled?
It was plugged during the refret with a piece of similar looking ebony
Why do you add solder to the frets?
    It transfers heat faster
Why is the drill going backwards?
I start drilling the wrong way around to stop chipping the brittle ebony.
Where are you located and how can reach you?
Im in Oslo in Norway and you can reach me through my website www.gitarmakerdalin.com
Why don't you have more videos?
I might make some more, but it is not free to make a video of this production quality.

No you really don't. So many people think they can watch a video and then suddenly they know luthiery.. A real luthier apprenticed under a master for YEARS... This guitar was NOT a candidate for a neck reset. A seasoned luthier would have known that and at least suggested the way less invasive AND less expensive way to correct that geometry.

Hi Lars, what a fascinating video. Some 15 years ago I sent my 1919 Martin 0-45 out to TJ Thompson for what was to be over a years worth of restoration. I had purchased it from The Mandolin Bros in 1973 and because of issues I couldn't have known about and the dry heat of New York City the poor thing was on death's door. I had no idea how much work, time, skill, inspiration, frustration and love went into TJ's work. Because of your video, I understand so much more and will appreciate my fortune every time I play.

funoverdone /forgive my opinion that I disagree that it was well shot. Yes it has a nice look but the quick edits do not promote a great learning video. There is not enough time while the picture is jumping around to see What the luthier is doing. The overall look of the film is exceptional as a short subject presented at a film festival but as a learning tool I feel the camera work detracted from its effectiveness. Just saying and addressing your comment thank you

Lars Dalin / Thank you. I did miss the admonition. I watched the entire video and enjoyed it immensely and I did realize that to have filmed this with the eye of a step-by-step procedure would have taken an in ordinate amount of time that could not have been accomplished with one video. I have a background in commercial film making industry and was acquainted with the editing techniques of Music videos and expensive car commercials in which the action is fast and furious and is only matched by the quick cuts. Thank you for your response I still feel that there could’ve been some slightly longer panning shots of what you were doing. I have a 1974 Martin D 35 that I purchased new in Chicago. It came with a lifetime warranty. 27 years later when I was convalescing from a leg injury, I sent my guitar to a luthier Who was an authorized Martin repair agent. Much of the work was covered under warranty plus I paid for a few elective repairs. (Fret wire replacement and som body damage) but other original work was guaranteed by the manufacturer such as neck adjustment, ribbing adhesion, internal loose bracing, and a curled up pick guard, (notorious for that model-year). I am curious if the D 28 model, 1974 also had a lifetime guarantee? Some of that work may have been covered by Martin under their original sales agreement.Thank you again for the video your work, as others have noted is nothing short of amazing!

This is THE 1st restore video I've ever seen where the gentle man clearly knows his craft inside out. Plus he plays guitar & well!! I'm stunned. I have a famous Martin I'll be bringing you to restore, with my up most confidence. Great video. Ty SIR. Amazing.

True devoation to his job, respect for the materials and love to the instrument. This is a perfect job! True craftsmenship and none of this bully quick and dirty jobs that are seen so often on you tube. My true respect for your work and additute.

Lars you are a true artist and genius in the work and execution you perform. I had so many Martin's over the last 58 years I've played and only wish I knew you to work on the one's I'd owned. Keep up your incredible work. You truly are a "Master Craftsman".

Lars, if you're reading this I just wanted to tell you as a guitarist that I learned so much about restoration and repair from watching this video and the Fender Jazzmaster repair video. It's fascinating to me how much specialised knowledge, techniques, and equipment you need to know how to use effectively. Some of the techniques you use here I had never seen before. Thank you and please make more videos like this; it's great to see a luthier who is a true craftsman at work.

The best craftsmanship I seen in years. Your eye detail sir is masterful.... I’d love to see your shop or play a guitar you worked on
You sir work with your hands mind and heart. That makes you a guitar 🎸 artist. Like a rare painting by one of the masters. You breath of life restore the guitars glory ... once again. Thx 😊 I toured the world with my cousins band black stone cherry. I seen many men fixing guitars ... your in my top 3.

That trick with adding the soder on the fret when warming it up is pretty neat. When you are working on electronics with soldering its a given that when you have a blob of soder on your iron and you can quickly remove something whereas when you are only touching on one point with the iron not so much at all for bigger stuff.
